Moroccan talent Youssef Lakhdim set for Real Madrid debut amid defensive crisis
Real Madrid is facing significant defensive challenges in their last five matches of the Spanish league, with injuries to Antonio Rüdiger, Ferland Mendy, David Alaba, Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão, and Eduardo Camavinga. As a result, coach Carlo Ancelotti has turned to the club's academy in preparation for the upcoming match against Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium this weekend.
One of the players expected to step up is Youssef Lakhdim, a Moroccan-born player who has been a key figure in the reserve team. Spanish media have suggested that Lakhdim might replace Mendy at left-back. If he plays, it will be his debut with Real Madrid's first team.
There is also the possibility that Lakhdim could be called up for the Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States between June 14 and July 13, 2025.

Lakhdim began training with the first team last Tuesday at Valdebebas, where he impressed Ancelotti and his staff despite being only 19 years old. Known as «Yusi», he is recognized for his exceptional speed and his strong offensive contributions.
Lakhdim chose to represent the Moroccan national team and was called up in March 2024 by the national coach to play in matches against Angola and Mauritania. Prior to that, he had represented the under-20 team, coached by Mohamed Wahbi, at the North African Union Tournament in Tunisia in November 2023, and the international tournament in South Korea in October 2023.
Real Madrid rejected an offer from Getafe to sign Lakhdim last summer, opting instead to extend his contract until 2028, demonstrating their confidence in his promising talent.
As the season progresses, Real Madrid is pushing hard to close the gap on Barcelona, who currently lead the league by four points. The upcoming El Clásico between the two sides on May 11 is expected to be crucial in deciding the fate of the championship.

Morocco defeats Tunisia 2-0 in friendly match
The Moroccan national football team secured a hard-fought 2–0 victory over Tunisia on Friday night at the Fès Sports Complex in a high-intensity friendly match. The goals came late in the game, with Achraf Hakimi scoring in the 80th minute and Ayoub El Kaabi sealing the win in stoppage time (90+3). This North African derby, played in front of a sold-out crowd, served as a key part of both teams' preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON Morocco 2025). The match also marked the official reopening of the Fès Sports Complex, which had recently undergone renovations ahead of the continental tournament. The encounter proved to be a serious test for the Atlas Lions, reflecting the level of competition they can expect at the AFCON. Tunisia started the game aggressively, dominating possession early and trying to dictate the tempo. However, despite their early pressure and Morocco's initial haste, they failed to seriously challenge goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. Morocco entered the match missing several key players, including Brahim Diaz, Nayef Aguerd, and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli. Coach Walid Regragui opted for a reshuffled starting lineup, with Jawad El Yamiq and Adam Masina forming the central defensive pairing, flanked by full-backs Zakaria Belaamri and Achraf Hakimi.

Morocco Edges Tunisia 2-0 in Friendly Game
Rabat – Morocco secured a solid 2-0 victory over Tunisia on Friday night in a friendly game at the Fez Grand Stadium. The first goal came from Achraf Hakimi, who finally broke the deadlock in the 80th minute. The Paris Saint-Germain defender tapped the ball in from close range after a well-placed cross by Eliesse Ben Seghir following a corner. The goal was long-awaited as Morocco struggled to break down Tunisia's defense. Hakimi, in excellent form after leading PSG to their first-ever Champions League title just last week, once again proved decisive and showed sharp movement and confidence throughout the match. Just when it seemed the match would end 1-0, substitute Ayoub El Kaabi added a second goal during added time, sealing the win and sending Moroccan fans into celebration. It was a tightly contested game with both teams creating chances but struggling to find the back of the net. Morocco dominated much of the second half, with substitutes bringing energy to the attack, especially in the final minutes, as they pushed forward and tested Tunisia's defense. Yassine Bounou made key saves to keep Morocco in the lead, especially denying a dangerous header from Hazem Mastouri in the 74th minute. Both teams used the match to rotate their squads and try different tactical setups. The international friendly is part of both teams' preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The win boosts confidence for the Atlas Lions as they finalize their preparations, where they will be considered one of the tournament favorites. Tunisia, on the other hand, will need to work on finishing and maintaining focus in key moments. The next few weeks will be crucial for both sides as they fine-tune their squads before heading to the continental tournament. Tags: Footballfriendly matchmorocco tunisiasports

Marca: Brahim Diaz is Morocco's Football Icon On and Off the Pitch
Rabat – Spanish sports daily Marca has spotlighted Brahim Diaz as a rising symbol of Moroccan pride for both his footballing talent and his growing influence as a public figure and cultural icon. Describing Diaz as an 'absolute icon' of Moroccan football, Marca said that despite not playing in Morocco's recent international friendlies, his presence remains deeply felt throughout the country. His popularity has soared since he joined the national team, and according to the article, his image is now seen 'everywhere' in Morocco, from billboards to social media, from television commercials to the streets of major cities. The 24-year-old Real Madrid midfielder was called up for Morocco's June international window but will not appear in either friendly, against Tunisia in Fez or against Benin in Agadir. This absence is not due to injury, as the Moroccan Football Federation has opted to rest him, aware that Real Madrid is counting on him for the FIFA Club World Cup later this month. Still, Diaz is fully involved with the national squad. He trained with his teammates during the international camp and will be watching the Tunisia match from the stands. 'A social and media icon' What makes Brahim Díaz unique, and what Marca emphasizes, is how his influence extends far beyond football. Since committing to Morocco in 2023 after previously representing Spain at youth levels, Diaz has experienced a meteoric rise in fame and cultural relevance. 'Off the pitch, Brahim has become a social and media icon among Moroccans. Since becoming a Real Madrid player and choosing to represent Morocco internationally, he has reached an unmatched level of visibility,' reads the article. Marca notes that he is the only footballer in the world to appear on the cover of Forbes while also starring in major Hollywood productions. In addition, he has launched his own bottled water brand and is the face of a nationwide advertising campaign with one of Morocco's top telecom companies. In addition, his youth football camp, called Mentalidad Brahim, already operates in Malaga and will soon expand into Morocco. The article concluded that Diaz represents something new for Moroccan football: a player who is not only gifted on the pitch but also culturally fluent and globally connected.
