's 33-minute address at Bikramganj in the district on Friday, his family said they were shocked and felt particularly hurtful.
They alleged discrimination when the news of the Prime Minister meeting the wife and other family members of another victim, Shubham Diwedi, at Kanpur airport emerged just two hours after his Bihar rally in Bikramganj — just 30km from Manish's native Aruhi village.
Manish's younger brother, Rahul Ranjan, initially dismissed the omission from the PM's speech, saying they had no grievances when "he (PM) didn't name him during his half-hour speech."
"But when we learned just two hours later that he met the wife and other family members of another victim at Kanpur airport, we were shocked. In Kanpur, the meeting was pre-planned, and they were called by the PMO."
Manish's father-in-law Jai Shankar Mishra, a resident of Allahabad, about 100km from Kanpur, said his daughter (the IB officer's widow) is still in trauma and receiving treatment at a local hospital.
During his Rohtas address, Prime Minister Modi focused on "Operation Sindoor" and the broader development agenda for Bihar.

Manish's aunt, Sunita Devi, expressed her disappointment. "It feels our son's life is less valuable. The Prime Minister met another family affected by the same tragedy, but he did not acknowledge Manish or his sacrifice, here in Rohtas. This is clear discrimination," she said, her voice heavy with emotion.
Manish's uncle Alok Priyadarshi echoed the family's plea for official recognition. "We want our son to be given the tag of a martyr. His death was for the nation, and he deserves the same respect and recognition as anyone else who lays down their life, he said.

Pakistan PM announces formation of new Army Rocket Force Command days after threat to India

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during his address on Thursday on the occasion of the country's 79th Independence Day, announced the creation of a new force — the Army Rocket Force Command — in a bid to enhance its combat capabilities, reported PTI. Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif said that the new force will prove another milestone in further strengthening our conventional war capabilities. (File/REUTERS) Apart from him, Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari, the three services chiefs, and national and foreign dignitaries were also present at the event. "Equipped with modern technology and capable of targeting the enemy from every direction, this force will prove another milestone in further strengthening our conventional war capabilities,' Prime Minister Sharif said during the event. Also read: 'Misadventure will lead to painful consequences': MEA on Pak's 'reckless' remarks However, Sharif did not provide any further details about the new force and what exactly would be its role. Pakistan's new force command is apparently inspired by its all-weather ally China's People's Liberation Army Rocket Force, the PTI report said. Shehbaz Sharif's announcement comes days after he said on Tuesday that the "enemy" would not be allowed to snatch 'even one drop' of water belonging to his country, apparently referring to the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) with India. After the April 22 Pahalgam attack, India took a series of punitive measures against Pakistan, including putting the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance. "I want to tell the enemy today that if you threaten to hold our water, then keep this in mind that you cannot snatch even one drop of Pakistan,' news agency PTI quoted Sharif as saying. India launched 'Operation Sindoor' on May 7, weeks after the Pahalgam attack which killed 26 people, and targeted nine terrorist sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which led to a four-day military confrontation between the two nations. The confrontation ended May 10 when both the nations reached a ceasefire understanding. (With PTI inputs)

'Disproportionately Concentrated': Pakistan's Post-War Credit, Awards 'Monopolised' By Asim Munir

Last Updated: This is in sharp contrast to India's treatment of its military in the aftermath of 'Operation Sindoor'. The Centre's gallantry awards only recognise combatants from operations Pakistan's military awards, following its standoff with India, have been monopolised by Field Marshal Asim Munir. This post-war credit has been 'disproportionately concentrated" on the Chief of Army Staff, said top intelligence sources. This is in sharp contrast to India's treatment of its military in the aftermath of 'Operation Sindoor'. The central government's gallantry awards only recognise combatants from operations. Pakistani awards, meanwhile, highlight top-brass self-projection and political weakness. India has not given away ceremonial awards to the three service chiefs. India is honouring nine air force officers with the Vir Chakra for precision strikes on Pakistan's Muridke and Bahawalpur during the conflict. At least 26 armed forces personnel have received the Vayu Sena Medal (gallantry), including S-400 and air defence operators who shielded Indian skies. Senior IAF officers in leadership positions have received Yudh Seva Medals for operational planning, and yet the awards have been restricted to those directly involved. Sixteen BSF jawans have been awarded for counter-drone, anti-infiltration, and enemy surveillance disruption along the western front. Munir, meanwhile, has been taking medals instead of giving them away. First, he was promoted to Field Marshal in May after the conflict, despite the fact that he does not have a frontline combat role. On August 13, Azerbaijan awarded him the Patriotic War Medal for bilateral defence cooperation, unrelated to Indo-Pakistan war performance. According to top intelligence sources, Pakistani authorities have sidelined field commanders and frontline troops creating silent discontent within the ranks. The sources told CNN-News18 that the decoration medals for Munir are seen internally as an attempt to craft a 'war hero" narrative to mask operational setbacks during the conflict. By rewarding himself and restricting honours to select loyalists, he has ensured that real battlefield failures and underperformance do not come into the public domain, they said. The absence of recognition for actual combat units is causing frustration among middle-level officials, signalling a weakening command structure, the sources said. Munir's awards are less about military merit and more about consolidating personal authority within the military establishment, they said. Munir is securing influence over civilian leadership, they added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. China says in close communication with India to resume direct flights

China on Thursday said it is in close communication with India to resume direct flights between the two countries, amid speculation that the two sides are preparing to restart air connectivity very soon after a gap of five years. Independence Day 2025 Before Trump, British used tariffs to kill Indian textile Bank of Azad Hind: When Netaji gave India its own currency Swadeshi 2.0: India is no longer just a market, it's a maker "We noted relevant reports," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said when asked about reports that airlines of the two countries have been told to be ready to operate flights and an official announcement was expected during the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit to be held on Aug 31-Sept 1 at Tianjin. "For some time, the Chinese side has been in close communication with India to promote the early resumption of direct flights between the two countries," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Simple Morning Habit for a Flatter Belly After 50! Lulutox Speculation was rife as Indian Consul General in Shanghai Pratik Mathur held talks with the officials of China Eastern Airlines on Thursday. A post on X by the Consulate said Mathur met with the senior management team of China Eastern Airlines global, led by Shen Jinsong, Senior GM Global, and discussed issues related to the growth of civil aviation and hospitality sectors in the region. State-owned China Eastern Airlines, along with Air China, used to operate daily flights to several Indian cities, including Delhi, but the air traffic came to a halt after the COVID-19 pandemic and the bilateral tensions following the military standoff in Eastern Ladakh. Lin said resuming direct flights between the Chinese mainland and India helps to facilitate cross-border travel, exchanges and cooperation as the two countries have a combined population of over 2.8 billion. India and China are in the process of normalising relations after over four years of a freeze in ties over the military standoff in Eastern Ladakh. Asked about reports that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will be visiting India on August 18 to attend the Special Representatives talks, Lin said, "China and India are maintaining interactions at various levels". "We stand ready to work with India to act on the important common understandings reached between leaders of our two countries, maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, cement political mutual trust, enhance practical cooperation, properly handle differences, and promote the sustained, sound and steady development of China-India ties," Lin said. "On the specific visit, relevant information will be released in due course," he said. Wang and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval are the designated special representatives for the boundary talks. Doval travelled to China in December last and held the SR talks with Wang, weeks after PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping decided to revive various dialogue mechanisms between the two sides at a meeting in the Russian city of Kazan. When asked how China sees its relations with India evolving as New Delhi's ties with Washington faced challenges, Lin said China and India are both major developing countries and important members of the Global South. "A cooperative pas de deux of the dragon and the elephant as partners helping each other succeed is the right choice for both sides," he said. He said China stands ready to work with India to act on the important common understandings reached between leaders of our two countries, consistently increase political mutual trust, expand exchanges and cooperation together, properly handle differences while bearing in mind the bigger picture, and strengthen coordination and cooperation on such multilateral platforms as the SCO, with a view to promoting the sound and steady development of China-India relations.
