Woman dies, three daughters injured in alleged police raid

A 60-year-old woman died and her three daughters were injured during an alleged act of police violence during a raid in Kamoke. The incident occurred at the Dera Ameer Afzal on Toliki Road, in the jurisdiction of Saddar Kamoke Police Station, when Police, led by ASI Rao Inam, conducted a raid to arrest suspects involved in a dispute. The victim's husband, Arif, stated that at around 11:30 pm, ASI Rao Inamullah, along with six of his colleagues, entered their home forcibly without the presence of female police officers, assaulted his wife and daughters, and even took an Umrah ticket, Rs90,000 cash, and a motorbike belonging to his son when they left. He further claimed the raid was unjustified as the family had already secured interim bail in the related case, which was a domestic dispute with relatives. During the raid, 60-year-old Irshad Bibi reportedly stepped forward to protect her husband, at which point ASI Rao Inam allegedly punched her in the chest, causing her to collapse. When her daughters, Zainab, Misbah, and Urooj intervened, they were also allegedly beaten and dragged by their hair. Irshad Bibi was taken to the hospital with the help of neighbors, where she succumbed to her injuries. Following the media report, CPO Rana Ayaz Saleem ordered SSP Operations Rizwan Tariq to investigate. CPO said that it was found that ASI Rao Inam conducted the raid without informing his SHO and was initially held responsible.

Two 'cops' caught using fake currency

The circulation of counterfeit currency is reportedly on the rise in Chakwal and surrounding areas. In a recent incident at Nakka Kahut, two suspects attempting to use fake currency were caught by local street vendors and handed over to the Balkasar Police Checkpost. According to details, two men arrived in a Suzuki Bolan at a roadside shop on Talagang Road, Nakka Kahut. Claiming to be associated with the police department, they bought a bottle of water with a Rs1,000 note, for which change was returned. They then purchased fritters from a nearby vendor and handed over another Rs1,000 note, which was found to be counterfeit. Upon rechecking, the previous note was also confirmed fake. As the vendors raised an alarm, the suspects tried to flee toward Chakwal. Coincidentally, the in-charge of the Talagang IB unit happened to be nearby. The shopkeepers informed him, and with his help, the suspects were apprehended and taken to Balkasar Checkpost. Upon search, an additional Rs5,000 in counterfeit notes was recovered from the suspects. When asked about legal action, the Balkasar checkpost in-charge said the investigation is ongoing and it's too early to make a final statement. However, if proven guilty, strict action will be taken. Eyewitnesses and shopkeepers claim the suspects are relatives (uncle and nephew), with one allegedly working as a driver in Talagang City Police. If these allegations are confirmed, it remains to be seen how the DPO responds to a potential case of serving police personnel being involved in such a serious offense in broad daylight.
