The global aviation industry is poised for robust growth primarily driven by the expansion of commercial fleets and increases in air travel, with the Middle East forecast to require over 235,000 new aviation personnel by 2043, including 68,000 pilots, 63,000 technicians, and 104,000 cabin crew, according to Boeing's 2024 Pilot and Technician Outlook. This partnership directly addresses the rising demand for industry-ready professionals by creating a pipeline of skilled talent equipped with both academic rigor and hands-on training. Students will also gain access to a piston and turbine engine cutaway model, digital multimeters and test kits, and a cockpit instrument panel mock-up. To support interactive learning, the lab will feature a computer-based training (CBT) software setup and calibrated tool cabinets, ensuring students are trained in an environment that closely mirrors real-world aircraft maintenance and avionics operations. The lab will be designed to align with Diploma-level aircraft maintenance engineering programs, exposing students to globally accepted safety standards and aviation technologies. Each year, around 15–20 students are expected to benefit from the internship program, which culminates in a certification titled 'Introduction to Aircraft Maintenance Engineering' from VCATI. The batch size per cohort will range from five to 18 students, ensuring personalized and hands-on learning. This MoU also paves the way for future collaborations such as faculty exchange, and student placement support, further strengthening the bridge between education and employment in the aviation sector. The partnership underscores MAHE Dubai's commitment to meaningful industry-academia collaboration, ensuring its graduates are not just degree-holders but industry contributors from day one.

Dubai schools hike fees: Parents pay up to Dh5,000 more, consider affordable academies
Dubai parents have begun receiving school fee increase notifications after regulators allowed a hike earlier this year. While some will have modest fee increases of just Dh200 per year for a child, parents of more premium schools will see their fees go up almost Dh5,000 annually for one child. To offset the cost, some parents are opting to pay an entire year's fees in one go, while others are looking to move their children to cheaper schools. On the other hand, some parents are happy that their fee hikes have been minimal and affordable. For Dubai parent Manal whose children study at an Indian syllabus school in Al Quoz, the total fee hike for both her children will be Dh400 per annum. 'I am very glad that the increase is manageable and not a huge burden,' she said. 'We had budgeted for an increase this year so we were not caught off-guard.' In May this year, Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) approved an Education Cost Index (ECI) of 2.35 per cent for for-profit private schools in the emirate for academic year 2025-2026. This allows schools to increase their fees based on their individual school grade as per the results of the Dubai School Inspection Bureau (DSIB), and the ECI. Indian expat Vivek has two children studying in an outstanding premium school in the emirate. The current yearly school fees for his children range between Dh87,000 to Dh92,000 and he would have to shell out an additional Dh10,000 per annum for both children together. 'However, our school gives the option of paying the entire year's fees in one go,' he said. 'This has given us a lump sum discount so the total fee increase for me has come to about Dh3,000 per year for both children.' 'No other option' German parent Greta said that she will 'feel the pinch' of the school fees increase but has 'no other option' as all schools have hiked their charges. 'Three of my children go to a British syllabus school in Jumeirah and I got the email yesterday that my school fees have been hiked by Dh2,000 per child per annum,' said Dubai resident Greta. 'That is a total increase of Dh6,000 per year in school fees alone. The books, uniforms and other study material are not included in that. However, changing the school is not an option for us because my eldest will be going to Year 11 in the next academic year and I don't think it is wise to change him now. Maybe next year, I might look into it.' However, she added that she discussed cutting down on some extra-curricular activities and her husband to offset the cost of school fees. Dubai currently has 227 private schools serving 387,441 students from 185 nationalities. The sector recorded an unprecedented 12 per cent increase in student enrollment in the 2023-24 academic year. For Mohammed Iqbal whose children study at a British syllabus school in Qusais, the increase has been manageable. 'My children are both in secondary school and the total fee hike has been Dh1,200 annually,' he said. 'I was expecting a little more than that so I am very happy.' Second year in a row Parent R.M. whose children attend a British syllabus school in Dubai said she has been hit with fee increases for two years in a row. 'Last year, our school increased fees by 4.55 percent and this year again, they announced a 2.35 percent hike,' she said. 'While I understand that the cost for businesses is going up, it puts a burden on parents because unfortunately salaries don't increase at the same rate as the costs. I began researching schools as soon as I heard about the fee hike but then soon realized that changing schools would bring with it a fresh set of challenges. So we decided to stay put at our current one.' Meanwhile some parents foresaw the fee increase and moved their children ahead of time. Umm Mohammed said that she decided to move her daughter from an expensive school in Dubai to a more reasonable one. 'We were paying over Dh55,000 in annual fees at our previous school,' she said. 'It was already the higher upper limit of what we could afford. So last year, we decided to move her to another school. Now we pay Dh30,000 inclusive of school fees, uniforms and books. When the announcement of the school fees came, I was relieved. At our previous school, the fee increase would have been really difficult for us. But now, the fee increase is about Dh1,000 per annum. It is very manageable for us. I think it was the best decision to move her.'

Dubai's higher education sector sees 20% enrolment growth
Dubai is rapidly solidifying its position as a premier global hub for higher education, underpinned by strong growth in student enrolment and a significant increase in the inflow of international students. These insights were highlighted during an exclusive, high-level briefing, hosted by L.E.K. Consulting's Global Education Practice in Dubai, which convened senior stakeholders, policymakers, and higher education leaders to discuss Dubai's accelerating transformation into a world-class higher education destination. The event featured key perspectives from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). According to L.E.K. Consulting's research and analysis, Dubai presents 'one of the most compelling growth markets globally for higher education,' driven by key factors, including a growing high school student base, increasing demand for transnational education, the presence of globally recognised university brands, student-friendly infrastructure, and strong post-study employment pathways. Latest figures from the KHDA highlight this strong growth momentum across the sector. More than 42,000 students are now enrolled across 41 private higher education institutions in the emirate that are licensed and regulated by the KHDA — with a 20 per cent increase in overall student enrolment in the 2024-25 academic year. International student enrolment has surged by 29 per cent compared to the previous year, now representing 35 per cent of total enrollments in Dubai's higher education institutions, which are licensed by the KHDA. Meanwhile, Emirati participation in international universities has also grown by 22 per cent, underscoring Dubai's dual appeal to both domestic and global learners. Four new international institutions opened in the current academic year alone. The strong growth supports KHDA's Education 33 strategy, and specifically its City of Students initiative, which aims to raise international student enrolment to 50 per cent by 2033, transforming Dubai into a world-leading destination for quality higher education. 'Dubai's continued growth as a global hub for higher education is testament to our leadership's vision and the ambitious goals of the Dubai Plan 33 and its social and economic agendas and driven by our Education 33 strategy,' said Dr Wafi Dawood, CEO of the Strategic Development Sector at the Knowledge and Human Development Authority. 'We are creating new opportunities for transnational education, strengthening Dubai's position as a city where learners, educators, and institutions from around the world can connect, collaborate, and thrive. Through E33, we are building a future where Dubai is not only a destination for quality education, but a centre of knowledge, innovation, and opportunity.' As the demand for transnational education, upskilling, and reskilling intensifies, Dubai's blend of strategic policy, global connectivity, and education quality continues to position it as a top-tier alternative to traditional study destinations. 'With a growing pool of graduates from our wonderful array of international schools in the city, Dubai presents a significant opportunity for international universities to meet the evolving needs of both local and international students,' said Ashwin Assomull, partner and head of the Global Education Practice at L.E.K. Consulting. 'Amid increasing regulatory restrictions in traditional anglophone markets, Dubai's world-class higher education infrastructure, global connectivity, favourable cost structure, and reputation for safety present unparalleled opportunities for students, operators, and investors to capitalise on this transformative growth.' The latest KHDA data reveals that over 42,000 students are now enrolled across 41 private higher education institutions regulated by the authority. International students now make up 35 per cent of this population, and Emirati enrolments at international universities have also increased by 22 per cent. The surge in enrollment has been attributed to several key factors: Dubai's expanding high school graduate population, increasing demand for transnational education, and the presence of top-ranked international universities offering academic excellence and strong post-study employment pathways. Ashwin Assomull explained that Dubai's educational momentum is underpinned by a workforce-oriented model that sets it apart from other regional education hubs like Singapore or Qatar. 'Dubai's institutions not only deliver strong academics but also focus on employability, providing students with job-ready skills and professional networks. This gives Dubai a clear competitive edge', he said. He also emphasised that the current growth trajectory is prompting more global universities to enter the Dubai market. 'Institutions are responding to constraints in their home countries—such as demographic shifts and regulatory changes—by expanding into Dubai, which offers a supportive environment, strong demand, and a proven track record of success. The city presents unparalleled opportunities for students, operators, and investors.' L.E.K. Consulting plays a strategic role in this transformation, advising universities and investors on how to align with Dubai's fast-evolving education ecosystem and the goals of the Education 33 initiative. This includes supporting institutions in designing scalable models, entering the market, and aligning expansion with broader social and economic outcomes. Looking ahead, Dubai aims to achieve 50 per cent international enrolment by 2033. Achieving this target will require sustained investment in academic quality, physical and digital infrastructure, student accommodation, and faculty development. 'If this momentum is maintained, Dubai won't just meet its targets — it will serve as a global benchmark for the future of international higher education,' Assomull said. As the demand for transnational education, upskilling, and reskilling continues to rise globally, Dubai is well-positioned to be at the forefront of the next chapter in global education.
