Mumbai Woman, Teen Boyfriend Arrested Over Rape, Murder Of Minor Girl: Cops

A woman and her teen boyfriend were arrested on Monday in connection with the rape and murder of her two-and-half-year-old daughter, a Mumbai police official said.
The child was brought to a government hospital on Sunday night with injuries on her private parts, after which doctors there alerted police, the official said. The child later died.
"The 19-year-old accused had sex with the 30-year-old woman and then raped the child in her presence. The woman, however, told doctors the child was suffering from epilepsy," the Malwani police station official said.
Based on a medical report, the woman and her teen boyfriend were arrested under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for rape, murder and other offences, he said.
"The woman was living with her child at her mother's house after her divorce. She then entered into a relationship with the 19-year-old man," he added.

Case registered against man who allegedly drove vehicle into tea shop in Kuttampuzha
A day after the emergence of a video footage of a jeep deliberately being driven into a roadside tea shop in Kuttampuzha village near Kothamangalam, injuring multiple persons, the Ernakulam Rural police on Monday registered a case against the driver of the vehicle. The tea shop belonged to a member of a scheduled tribe at Mamalakandam. The accused has been identified as Ratheeshan aka Kunjan of Mamalakandam. The tea shop owner, Vinod, and his neighbour, a woman who happened to be at the tea shop, were injured in the incident which took the residents by surprise on Sunday around 6 p.m. Both the accused and the victims were in the hospital undergoing treatment. Vinod, originally from a tribal settlement in Metnappara in Kuttampuzha, now resides in a rented house at Mamalakandam. The Kuttampuzha police booked the accused under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 329(3) criminal trespass), 296(b) (obscene acts and songs), 351(1) (criminal intimidation) and the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused committed the alleged act, suspecting Vinod to be having an affair with his daughter. The accused drove his vehicle and stopped in front of the victim's tea shop, and then allegedly threatened to kill him by brandishing a knife, besides hurling abuses. He then drove his vehicle into the front of the tea shop, knocking down the victim's scooter even as the victim rushed to pull away a child. In the resultant melee, the victim and the woman were injured, the FIR said. A tragedy was averted after people in front of the tea shop scurried away to safety. The footage showed the vehicle being driven into the front of the tea shop and then put in reverse to ram into the shop again. People could be seen hurling stones at the vehicle. The police were also verifying whether the accused was under the influence of alcohol.

Youth sentenced to 10 years for impregnating minor girl
The Fast Track Mahila Court here on Monday sentenced a 20-year-old youth to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for living with a minor girl and impregnating her. According to the prosecution, B. Maideen Basha of Surampatti was employed at a textile shop in Gani Market, where he became acquainted with a 15-year-old girl working at a nearby shop. He reportedly expressed his love for her and promised marriage. On July 26, 2019, he allegedly kidnapped the girl and began living with her. The girl later became pregnant. When she visited the Government Headquarters Hospital, doctors alerted the All Women Police Station. A case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and relevant sections related to kidnapping. He was subsequently arrested. After the trial, Judge C. Sornakumar found Maideen Basha guilty and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, in addition to imposing a fine of ₹1,000. He was later lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.
