Mohali: VB records ex-Akali leader Aulakh, businessman Chahal's statements
Majithia was arrested on June 25 from his residence in Amritsar under the Prevention of Corruption Act and remains in vigilance custody. He is scheduled to be produced in court on July 2.
On Monday, former Akali leader Maninder Singh Aulakh, also known as Bittu Aulakh, who is now with the BJP, and Amritsar-based businessman Jagjit Singh Chahal recorded their statements against Majithia at the vigilance office in Sector 68, Mohali.
Speaking to the media after his deposition, Aulakh said the case dates back to 2013 and alleged that law enforcement failed to act decisively at the time. 'Had the police investigated properly then, the truth would have come out much earlier. We even demanded a CBI probe,' he said.
Aulakh added that investigators questioned him about financial transactions, benami properties and any joint assets with Majithia, all of which he denied. He called for the questioning of former SSP Hardayal Mann to shed light on the matter and accused former ED deputy director Niranjan Singh of bias in the earlier probe.
'If anyone is involved in drug trafficking, they should be punished. But innocent people like me and Chahal have been falsely implicated. Our children's futures have been ruined and Chahal's parents suffered immensely,' he said.
Clarifying his past association with Majithia, Aulakh said they had cordial ties until 2010 but never owned any property together.
Chahal, who owns three pharmaceutical companies in Himachal Pradesh — MBP Pharmaceuticals and Montek Bio Pharma in Baddi, and Tulip Formulations in Damtal — echoed Aulakh's concerns. He said the investigation finally appears to be moving in the right direction.
'Until now, it was all political drama. Five or six SITs were formed over the years, but none took the case seriously. For the first time, officials seem determined to uncover the truth,' Chahal said.
He reiterated his opposition to drug trafficking and called on chief minister Bhagwant Mann to initiate a thorough probe into the 2013 drug racket. 'If we are guilty, we are ready to face the consequences,' he added.
Both Aulakh and Chahal were arrested in 2015 for their alleged roles in the Bhola drug cartel but were acquitted of all charges by a CBI court in Mohali in 2019.
Over the past five days, the vigilance bureau has also recorded statements from former Punjab DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyaya, former ED deputy director Niranjan Singh and former MLA Amarpal Singh 'Bonny' Ajnala.

On August 6, Roshan of Phulwarisharif tried to snatch a police weapon before being subdued. Other high-profile names include Balwant and Raviranjan, shooters who were involved in the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra inside a private hospital in Patna on July 17. They were shot on July 22. Gangster Raja JP was caught on June 25 after injuring policemen while attempting to escape. In June alone, three criminals, including 25,000-rupee rewardee Vivek Kumar of Danapur and Ishu alias Rishu from the Jitendra murder case, were similarly brought down. In May, two more, Vishal from Bikram and Sonu Kumar from Maner, were injured while exchanging fire with police. The public reaction has largely been supportive. Residents, long distressed by rising crime, view the crackdown as a strong deterrent. "People were living in fear, but this action has restored confidence," said one Patna shopkeeper. Defending the campaign, Bihar's Director General of Police Vinay Kumar emphasised that police are fully empowered to protect themselves and enforce law and order. "If criminals engage in crime or attack officers, we will act. Our personnel have every right to self-defence, and no lawbreaker will be allowed to challenge the rule of law," he said

Andhra Pradesh HC adjourns plea against DyCM Pawan Kalyan
VIJAYAWADA: Former IAS officer Vijay Kumar on Monday filed a petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking interim orders to restrict Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan from acting in films, participating in entertainment programmes, producing and promoting films, and appearing in advertisements. In his petition, Vijay Kumar alleged that Pawan Kalyan misused his office and government funds in the making of the film Harihara Veeramallu and requested the court to direct the CBI to conduct an impartial investigation into the matter. The High Court, comprising Judge Dr Justice Venkata Jyotirmayi Pratapa, rejected the request of the petitioner's lawyer to issue notices to the respondents—the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), ACB, and Pawan Kalyan. The judge refused to issue notices at this stage, posted the hearing to next week, and ordered the registry to print the names of the lawyers representing the CBI and ACB in the list of cases to be heard.

Cop held for taking Rs 15,000 bribe at police station in Thane
Agency: Last Updated: Thane, Aug 19 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested a 42-year-old sub-inspector (SI) for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a man at a police station in Maharashtra's Thane district, the ACB said on Tuesday. The police had registered a case against the man's brother for an offence. The accused SI demanded Rs 25,000 from the person to save his brother from arrest and help him in the case, an ACB official said. The person, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the Thane ACB which laid a trap and caught the SI red-handed while taking Rs 15,000 as part payment of the amount in Kashigaon Police Station premises on Monday, he said.
