Mitchell homers twice to lead Texas over Florida 3-0 in Women's College World Series' opening game
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Joley Mitchell homered twice and Teagan Kavan allowed just two hits to lead sixth-seeded Texas past No. 3 seed Florida 3-0 on Thursday to open play at the Women's College World Series.
Mitchell homered in the second and sixth innings off Florida ace Keagan Rothrock, becoming the first Texas player to hit multiple home runs at the World Series.
Texas (52-11) will play the winner of Thursday's game between Oklahoma and Tennessee on Saturday. Florida (48-16) will play the Oklahoma-Tennessee loser on Friday in an elimination game.
Back-to-back home runs by Mitchell and Katie Stewart in the sixth ended Rothrock's day. She was pulled after throwing 105 pitches. Three of the five hits she allowed were home runs.
Mitchell's first home run traveled 250 feet to left field.
The Gators were hitless through three innings against Kavan, who improved to 25-5. Florida finally broke through in the fourth inning when Korbe Otis lined a base hit off Mitchell's glove at first base.
Texas led 1-0 in the fifth but threatened against Rothrock, putting runners on first and second with two out. She struck out Reese Atwood looking to end the inning.

Mariah Carey Returns With Fiery Single ‘Type Dangerous'
Mariah Carey has released a new single, 'Type Dangerous.' The song is the pop singer's first new release in several years, with her most recent album, Caution, arriving in 2018. The track presumably teases her next LP. 'Looking for the dangerous type,' she croons on the upbeat number. 'I like them dangerous/ That's my type/ I said I love them dangerous.' More from Rolling Stone iHeartRadio Music Festival 2025: Ed Sheeran, Tate McRae, Mariah Carey to Perform Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin Named BET Ultimate Icon Award Recipients John Mulaney, Rock Hall of Fame Enthusiast, Breaks Down This Year's Class - and Snubs! Carey has been teasing new music on social media all week, including clips from the official lyric video for 'Type Dangerous.' In one clip, the singer is seen listening to a mysterious track called 'T:D_MC16.mp3.' Her car's license plate reads: MC16. Both likely reference her 16th studio album being on the way. Carey recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of her album The Emancipation of Mimi with The Emancipation of Mimi (20th Anniversary Edition) and an additional digital deluxe edition. 'When you sit down and go through the whole Emancipation of Mimi as an album, and go, 'Some of these songs were a little bit more that way or a little bit more this way,' it's just really interesting,' Carey told Rolling Stone last year as she prepared to kick off her Las Vegas residency. 'I love the album so much that it's hard to pick it apart and go, 'Oh, I like this part less than I like that part.' It really is one unit.' The singer released Caution, her 15th LP, in 2018. In a review, Rolling Stone called it 'thrillingly current without swallowing Carey's charm.' Christian Bale Looks Totally Unrecognizable in New NFL Biopic
Christian Bale has made a career out of disappearing into roles, but his latest transformation may be one of his most dramatic yet. The Oscar-winning actor was recently spotted on the Atlanta set of "Madden," a biopic about legendary NFL coach and commentator John Madden. He's nearly unrecognizable as late Raiders owner Al Davis. People reported that photos from the set show Bale, 51, in full character, wearing a receding hairline wig, bleached eyebrows, leather jacket, black slacks and several championship rings. The era-specific look is a bold and uncanny match for the larger-than-life NFL figure he's portraying. The biopic, directed by David O. Russell, reunites Bale with the filmmaker behind "The Fighter" and "American Hustle." The story follows Madden's rise from Super Bowl-winning coach to beloved broadcaster and namesake of the blockbuster football video game franchise. Nicolas Cage stars as Madden, sporting his own transformation with a wavy blond wig and bright blue tracksuit. Bale's role as Davis is central to the story. Davis was the principal owner of the Raiders from 1972 until his death in 2011 and helped shape the team's famously aggressive identity. He and Madden worked together during the team's most successful stretch, including their victory in Super Bowl XI in 1977. Amazon MGM Studios describes the film as a tribute to Madden's 'remarkable journey,' chronicling his coaching legacy, cultural influence and longtime partnership with Davis. Also joining the cast are John Mulaney as Trip Hawkins, Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis. Madden coached the Raiders from 1969 to 1978 and went on to become one of the most recognizable voices in football. He won 16 Sports Emmy Awards, helped launch the Madden NFL video game series and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006. He died in 2021 at age 85. Amazon MGM Studios has not announced a release date for "Madden."Christian Bale Looks Totally Unrecognizable in New NFL Biopic first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 6, 2025
