Anglesey: Girl, 4, inspires Tŷ Gobaith hospice campaign
Alaw Evan, from Llanfairpwll, features in a summer appeal for Tŷ Gobaith children's hospice, which has raised more than £60,000 in just a few weeks.
Alaw's face has appeared on the front of envelopes delivered to 32,000 homes since the start of May, with her parents, Ffion and Barry, sharing their story.
Ffion said: "Those teeny tiny steps where Alaw is doing something really well, something we never thought we would see.

"Alaw isn't able to sit up unaided, she doesn't crawl, she doesn't walk, she doesn't stand without the support of a frame but she has the most contagious giggle ever."
Alaw was born on Valentine's Day and sustained a brain injury, due to lack of oxygen, after her mother developed HELLP syndrome, a rare and life-threatening pregnancy condition.
Ffion was not able to meet her Alaw until five days after giving birth.
Barry said: "They were both fighting for their lives and we were being told to expect the worst.

"But Alaw was a little fighter, and after five days Ffion was able to have her bed wheeled to Neonatal Intensive Care to meet her too."
Alaw was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and dystonia.
After spending six months in Alder Hey Hospital, a paediatrician recommended the family consider respite care at Tŷ Gobaith.
Ffion said: "We went to visit in springtime last year and I remember stepping outside in the car park and just feeling completely overwhelmed by how beautiful the setting was."

She added: "We went inside and everybody was making a fuss of Alaw and she was loving it.
"The first time we left her overnight was massive for us but it felt like a safe place and I'm not just talking about the nurses, I'm talking about the housekeepers and the kitchen staff and how everybody knows everything that is going on there and how everyone is involved in Alaw's care like one big family."
Barry recently raised money for the hospice by abseiling down the Anglesey Column on May 17.
He said: "We are so excited about this next chapter in our lives where we can just be parents to Alaw and our baby Caio, and with the help of Tŷ Gobaith that is happening more and more often."

Scottish 'whisky' matured in Loch Ness sold for £850 at auction
Just six bottles of the spirit exist in the world. The first bottle of 'whisky' matured in casks submerged in Loch Ness has been sold at auction. The unique spirit was purchased for £850 after dozens of bids. Domhayn, which gets its name from the Gaelic word for 'deep', was plunged 214 metres underneath the surface of the legendary loch on Valentine's Day, February 14. As previously reported by the Daily Record, the Stirlingshire-based release comes from a 2010 single malt barley spirit that was bottled at natural strength 55.5 per cent ABV. As a result of its one-of-a-kind production method that changes its molecular profile, Domhayn cannot be legally classed a whisky. There are just six bottles of Domhayn in existence. The first of these sold at auction for £850 from 42 bids. Domhayn founder James Patterson commented: "We're thrilled that someone out there is now going to have that incredible experience of tasting a spirit that has touched the bottom of Loch Ness". The idea for the spirit came to Patterson while he was observing wild swimmers from the shore of Loch Ness. He became inspired as he watched the swimmers take a celebratory dram after a dook. Patterson continued: "This is about pushing the boundaries of how we understand spirit maturation. "We know the environment a cask matures in has a huge impact, but no one has explored the application of pressure like this before. The results have been astounding. "When we retrieved the cask, the difference was undeniable. The spirit had developed a distinctly different aroma and smoothness —something traditional maturation simply couldn't achieve in the same timeframe. "Given its uniqueness, we expect collectors and enthusiasts to be very curious about how this method compares to conventional maturation. "What's more, our proprietary technique isn't limited to spirits—it also applies to wine, rum, and vodka—and that makes it incredibly exciting." In order to guarantee authenticity and quality, the spirit from each cask of Domhayn received molecular-level analysis. This was carried out at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford. Patterson added: "Submersion causes the cask to compress and decompress, triggering a unique interaction between the wood and the spirit involving both extraction and absorption. "It's a one-off opportunity—each cask can only withstand one dive before the pressure permanently alters it. "We wanted to go beyond tasting notes and detect molecular-level changes in the spirit. To do this, samples from each of the casks were tested by the Department of Chemistry at Oxford University using chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. "The technique measures differences in the compounds found in samples. The results showed a different molecular composition in the processed samples, providing evidence that our process alters the molecular level profile of the spirits compared to control samples." The first bottle of Domhayn was auctioned at Whisky Auctioneer. More information about the spirit can be found on the Domhayn website.

Urgent recall of cute gift items sold in Tesco and Card Factory due to ‘serious risk of fire'
The gifts feature an iconic character and were sold in Tesco, WH Smith and Card Factory. Several popular gift items sold in Tesco, Amazon, WH Smith and Card Factory have been urgently recalled as they present a 'serious risk of fire', the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has announced. Many styles of the 'Me to You' decorative cushions have been named in the recall by greetings card company Carte Blanche Greets Ltd. The OPSS stated: "Affected products have been identified as presenting a risk of fire, as they do not meet the required fire safety standards. The products do not meet the requirements of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988." Several designs of the cushions have been named in the recall, which were for sale at a range of retailers. The full list of thirteen styles of recalled cushions included Christmas, Valentine's Day and Mother's Day editions of the 'Tatty Teddy' gifts. Some of the cushions had been on sale since 2022, and others had been available to purchase since last November. According to the recall notice, the products were manufactured in China. The OPSS also shared that "owners are advised to stop using affected products immediately and return them to the retailer where the product was purchased for a full refund."
