'It doesn't bother me': Kyrie Irving reacts to Tracy McGrady's big claim on comparison with Jamaal Tinsley

Hindustan Times9 hours ago

Kyrie Irving has reacted to Tracy McGrady's big claim, where he compared the former NBA guard Jamaal Tinsley's handle to the Dallas Mavericks' All-Star. The controversy arose after Tracy McGrady made the bold claim that Tinsley's ball handling skills were even greater than Irving's — a view that raised eyebrows across the league. 'I don't think nobody had better handles than Jamaal Tinsley, even Kyrie,' McGrady said in a segment, adding a fresh twist to the ongoing debate about who stands out most when it comes to creativity with the ball in their hands.
Irving reacted to a comment in a subtle way during a Twitch stream. He made his thoughts clear, emphasising that he's comfortable in his own skin and that comments like these do not diminish his confidence in his game.
"When I see an OG like (Tracy McGrady) come out and say 'I don't think nobody had better handles than Jamaal Tinsley, even Kyrie,' it doesn't bother me because I'm a mix of all the great players that came before me," Irving said.
The comparison also highlights a rich era in the NBA, when players like Tinsley, McGrady, and now Irving made ball handling a form of artistry. Each has a unique style, adding their own flavour and imagination to their drives and crossovers.
'You never know who's watching you, you never know who's going to be in a position to help you or give you that opportunity,' Irving said.'Just move with grace. It's okay to be a kind person. You don't have to be too cool to say what's up to people. You don't have to be too tough to get along with people. But honor yourself too. Balance that out.'
Irving tore his ACL in early March and is currently undergoing extensive recovery and rehabilitation. While the Dallas Mavericks' All-Star guard is expected to make his comeback at some point next season, he's likely to miss a significant portion of the campaign as he works his way back to full fitness.

Nikola Jokic clocks out for the summer and where he goes might surprise you

(Image Source - Getty Images) Most NBA stars follow up a historic season with a grind-heavy summer. Not Nikola Jokic. While Denver deals with front-office drama, he's back home in Serbia, rafting, racing horses, and trying out sports most fans can't pronounce. It's unconventional. It's off-the-grid. And it just might be the reason he stays one step ahead of the league. From rafting to racing Nikola Jokic finds balance in childhood passions far from NBA demands This offseason isn't your average basketball narrative. Nikola Jokic, the Denver Nuggets' center and three-time MVP, wrapped up the 2024 – 25 season with an astonishing 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game — securing his place in history as the first center to average a triple-double in a season. But instead of embracing the fame, he opted to retreat. He made a beeline for Serbia, where he was seen without a shirt, rafting the Tara River as fans shouted "MVP"—a surreal summer experience that felt like a blend of holiday and myth. No training videos, no gym selfies—just Jokic gliding through the rapids with a beer in hand, relishing the peace and spontaneity. Off the court, Jokic dives into the joys of his childhood. He's an avid horse lover, especially when it comes to harness racing, a passion he's had since he was young. This summer, he'll be hanging out at local stables and racetracks, watching family horses or even casually racing himself. In a move that caught fans off guard worldwide, Jokic took a stab at Sepak Takraw — a sport that combines soccer and volleyball. At seven feet tall, he showcased some unexpected agility that got people applauding his coordination. No step-back threes or power fades here — just a genuine sense of athletic curiosity under the Serbian sky. Back in Denver, the Nuggets are going through a bit of uncertainty—firing GM Calvin Booth and making roster choices that center on Jokic's future. Still, Jokic stays calm, looking almost detached from the NBA's commotion. His sole mission? To reset, refresh, and reconnect—with himself, his family, and the hometown that shaped him. It's not just a chill escape. With the 2024–25 season in the past and the Paris 2024 Olympics coming up, this break is preparing his mind as well as his body. If this summer shows anything, Jokic isn't just recharging—he's getting into the right headspace to dominate once more. Nikola Jokic's summer habits—rafting, riding horses, engaging in unusual sports, and avoiding the court come off as a conscious act of defiance: pushing back against expectations and the constant scrutiny. 'Same shii': Ja Morant's first reaction to the Memphis Grizzlies trading Desmond Bane

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant reacted to the Desmond Bane trade, calling it 'tough' Bane was traded to the Orlando Magic on Sunday morning, and Morant doesn't seem very happy about it. Anyway, he wished his now former teammate the best for the future and asked him to 'go be great'. 'Same shii gang. Shii tough but we (locked) forever. Go be great brudda,' Morant wrote in his Instagram story along with a photo with Desmond Bane. Desmond Bane and Ja Morant became the Memphis Grizzlies' most dynamic backcourt duo because their dramatically different playing styles meshed well together. While Morant was one of the league's most dynamic guards when getting to the basket, Bane has been one of the NBA's best 3-point shooters. Now, the partnership has broken, and Bane heads to Orlando for his future. But Ja Morant has surely indicated that the trade wouldn't affect the duo's friendship off the court as they navigate life on it without each other. With the NBA off-season underway for all franchises except the Indiana Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Memphis Grizzlies decided to trade Desmond Bane for guards Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Cole Anthony. The Grizzlies also get a first-round pick swap and four unprotected first-round picks for Bane. This is the first major off-season trade for the NBA sides this year. For Memphis, the inclusion of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Cole Anthony adds some much-needed depth to the backcourt. As per Sports Illustrated, the Grizzlies get the No. 16 pick in the 2025 NBA draft in the trade. The side will also have a 2026 first-round pick with swap rights from either the Washington Wizards or the Phoenix Suns. They also get Orlando's 2028 and 2030 unprotected first-round draft picks and a lightly protected 2029 first-round draft pick swap.
