Colorado dentist convicted of murder after poisoning wife's protein shakes
A jury convicted a Colorado dentist of first-degree murder Wednesday after he repeatedly poisoned his wife, including by lacing her protein shakes. Prosecutors had accused James Craig of repeatedly poisoning his wife, Angela Craig, over 10 days in March 2023. When those attempts failed, prosecutors said the dentist gave his wife a final dose of cyanide as she was hospitalized in suburban Denver with symptoms that puzzled doctors. She was declared brain dead soon after. Craig stood in a hushed courtroom Wednesday afternoon as the jury delivered a litany of guilty verdicts on murder and other charges. Afterward, he sat down and his attorneys rested their hands on his shoulder. They whispered to each other while awaiting sentencing. Craig faces life in prison on the murder charge alone. But before he could learn his punishment, Angela Craig's relatives delivered emotional testimony, including by one of the couple's six children who said her father will forever be a villain. Angela Craig's older sister, Toni Kofoed, lamented the loss of phone calls, texts and trips with her sister where they could laugh and talk throughout the night. 'You have taken away our opportunity to grow old together,' Kofoed said. 'Her life was not yours to take,' Kofoed said, turning to the defendant. 'Angela had a love and a passion for life. She loved her children and, unfortunately, she loved you.' In addition to murder, James Craig also was found guilty of trying to cover up the killing by asking others to fake evidence and testimony that would make it appear that Angela Craig had killed herself or wanted to frame him for her death. He was found guilty of asking his daughter to make a fake video of her mother asking to be poisoned and of trying to get one inmate to kill the lead detective investigating his wife's death, among other things. Jurors rejected his claim that his wife sought his help in ending her own life. Several people in the family section of the courtroom were in tears as family members testified about the impact of Angela Craig's death. James Craig himself didn't testify during the two-week trial, and his attorneys didn't present other witnesses. The defense had suggested earlier at trial that Angela Craig may have taken her own life and faulted police for focusing solely on James Craig as a suspect. However, prosecutors said the dentist had offered other conflicting explanations for her death to other people. Toxicology tests determined Angela Craig died of poisoning from cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, an ingredient commonly found in over-the-counter eye drops, according to the coroner. Prosecutors argued James Craig wanted to kill his wife to get out of a marriage he felt trapped in, adding he didn't want a divorce so he could protect his money and image. Prosecutors said photos from a hospital security camera shown in court depict Craig holding a syringe before he entered Angela Craig's room. After administering the fatal dose through her IV, James Craig walked out and texted a fellow dentist with whom he was having an affair, Michael Mauro, senior chief deputy, told jurors in closing arguments. His wife's condition quickly worsened. One of James Craig's attorneys, Lisa Fine Moses, told jurors earlier this week that the image was blurry and syringes that investigators recovered did not contain any poison. She also said the couple wasn't in financial trouble, and that Craig's cheating had been going on for years and had never been a motivation for murder.

American girl meets nightmarish fate after being abducted for ransom in Mexico
A teen girl from New Mexico was found brutally murdered and buried in a shallow grave in a Mexican border city after kidnappers demanded a ransom for her release, authorities said. The body of Dayana Llaguno, 17, from Hobbs, New Mexico, was discovered last week buried under about two feet of dirt in a yard at a home in Juárez near the Texas border, according to the Chihuahua State Attorney General's Office. Llaguno, who posted frequently on social media from the crime-plagued city, had left her home in New Mexico on July 16. She crossed the border in El Paso, Texas, with a family friend. Three days later, her family received WhatsApp messages demanding money to free her that included photos and videos, prosecutors said. Investigators later searched a home on Sierra Moncayo Street in the UrbiVilla del Cedro neighborhood in southeast Juárez and made the grim discovery. Llaguno's cause of death was asphyxiation by strangulation, prosecutors said. Authorities have not named any suspects. A spokesman for the Chihuahua Public Safety Department, Antonio Garfio, said that Llaguno originally traveled to Juárez to go shopping with her family friend before asking if she could visit someone she knew. She was reported kidnapped after she failed to return. The FBI declined to comment when contacted by the Daily Mail. The US State Department did not respond to a request for comment. Attempts to reach Llaguno's family were unsuccessful. The teen's Facebook profile is filled with photos and videos apparently taken in Juárez. She share her last images around the time her family received the text messages. One shows an empty street in Juárez with a time stamp of 4:20am. Another shows a photo of the teen posing as a song plays and lyrics flash on screen. 'I know I'm going to die, that's why I'm living like crazy,' a portion of the lyrics read. Juárez - once considered the most dangerous city in the world - recorded at least 95 kidnappings in the first six months of 2025, according to data released by the Chihuahua Attorney General's Office. Two of the victims were murdered and six were able to escape on their own. Of the 95 kidnapping victims, 20 held dual Mexico-US citizenship. Llaguno's death stunned her friends, some of whom questioned why she had traveled to Mexico.

Scots gun nut teen obsessed with Columbine killers who wanted to carry out ‘Doomsday' school shooting UNMASKED
A COLUMBINE-obsessed teenager who plotted to kill pupils and teachers in a 'Doomsday' shooting in revenge for bullying has been jailed for six years. Felix Winter, 18, fantasised about carrying out a massacre at his Edinburgh secondary school after idolising the twisted killers behind the 1999 Columbine High School massacre in the US, where 12 pupils and a teacher were shot dead. 3 3 3 The Nazi-worshipper sparked alarm by turning up to class in combat gear and carrying a gun. Investigators later found a chilling notebook where Winter had described his school as 'a virus' and scrawled 'all you f***ers need to die and you will soon.' The teenager - who the court previously heard was transgender and identifies as male - planned to wipe out classmates and staff with explosives, guns and poison, after claiming he was being picked on and learning about 'school shootings in modern studies'. Winter had already been referred to a UK-wide programme designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism before he devised the sick plot. But no further action was taken for months even despite Winter continuing to openly discuss mass shootings. Winter's defence team urged a judge not to jail the warped teen and instead impose a community order. But the judge ruled that out stating in his sentencing remarks that Winter appeared to be 'progressing to the brink of a mass school shooting'. Jailing Winter for six years today, Lord Paul Arthurson added: 'This was a prolonged, disturbing course of conduct.' Winter's parents were in court and his dad collapsed in shock at the sentence. Defence KC Shelagh McCall told the court Winter, who was just 15 when the plot attack was devised, was bullied. She told the court Winter had been 'groomed' by a twisted online community who made the wannabe killer believe the 'violent fantasy was morally justified'. She said: 'The cause was revenge for bullying. Nothing in the investigation provided proper basis for terrorism material. The accused identified with Columbine. 'He felt harm was justified towards those who had harmed him and to those who had failed to protect him.' A police probe kicked off in summer 2023 after a chilling photo of Winter dressed head-to-toe in combat gear and wielding an imitation rifle inside the school surfaced on social media. The image sparked panic among terrified parents and pupils. Winter, who harboured vile pro-Nazi and racist views, had already been flagged to a UK-wide anti-terror programme aimed at stopping young people from becoming radicalised. Winter had showed pals pictures and videos of dead victims of school shootings and even showed one pal detailed instructions involving explosions before telling them a plan to carrying out the suicide attack. Winter then dressed in clothes similar to those worn by the Columbine killers and posted a video on TikTok. Winter admitted to a breach of the peace and the separate charge under the Terrorism Act, with offences spanning from June 2022 to July 2023. Defence KC Shelagh McCall said Winter had autism, and that a professor had found a 'serious link' between the condition and the disturbing behaviour – insisting it was not driven by extremist ideology. She said Winter had shown clear progress since the arrest. She said: 'He has expressed regret and recognises that he didn't previously appreciate how his behaviour was impacting on others. 'He accepts in the context of his plea of guilty and his remarks about school shootings in 2022, him dressing in that costume and carrying that in a school would generate alarm to those who came upon it but this was not his intent.'
