'It can't be compared to a private tournament...: India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clash safe despite WCL tensions
The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) made it clear ahead of the highly anticipated match that there is no risk involved, stating that the Asia Cup cannot be compared to a competition such as the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025.
BCCI faces boycott calls over India-Pakistan matches
In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, the BCCI has been in the middle of a major controversy ever since the tournament schedule was revealed. There are increasing calls for the Indian board to boycott the matches against Pakistan.
Following the announcement of the WCL 2025 match between the Indian and Pakistani champions, former Indian players recently faced a great deal of criticism. Shikhar Dhawan, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, and Harbhajan Singh withdrew from the competition as a result of the social media chatter.
In the end, the game had to be canceled by the organizers. Pakistan qualified directly for the final after the Indian champions declined to play them in the semi-final. They ultimately lost to the South African champions, who were captained by AB de Villiers.
'While I cannot give a formal guarantee, there is no risk of Pakistan and India not playing. The Asia Cup cannot be compared to private tournaments like the World Championship of Legends, where India refused to play against Pakistan in both the league stage and semi-final,' the ECB COO Subhan Ahmed said

Ritika clinches heavyweight gold
Bangkok: Ritika bagged gold in the women's 80+kg category as India finished a creditable overall fourth in the Under-22 category of the Asian Boxing Championships here on Monday. The Indian U-22 contingent concluded their campaign with a total of 13 medals, while the U19 group returned home with a total of 14 medals, including three gold, seven silver and four bronze. The effort helped the U-19 side to end up at overall second in the tournament. However, the day's sole gold came through Ritika in the women's 80+kg final, where she kept her composure under pressure to beat Kazakhstan's Assel Toktassyn. Facing a strong boxer, Ritika mixed caution with aggression to land some telling blows, bagging India's fourth gold in the event. In the morning session, Yatri Patel settled for a silver after losing to Khumorabonu Mamajonova of Uzbekistan in women's 57kg, while Priya's spirited fight against Yu Tian of China in the 60kg final ended in a narrow 2:3 loss. Later in the day, Neeraj went down against Shavkatjon Boltaev of Uzbekistan in the men's 75kg final. Later, Ishan Kataria lost to Khalimjon Mamasoliev of Uzbekistan in the 90+kg gold medal clash, as both the Indian boxers secured silver. India's overall medal haul across both age groups and genders underlined the strength and depth of its youth boxing programme. Earlier this year, the U-15 and U-17 squads had combined for 43 medals at the Asian Championships, with the U-15 contingent delivering the highest number of golds in the competition - 11 in total - led by the girls' team, who swept 10 of the 15 available gold medals and won every final they contested on the penultimate day.

Former selector explains why Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should not continue their ODI careers
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Indian cricket greats Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's ODI future has been the subject of intense discussion, with the October series against Australia being seen as their farewell match. Despite their good form, both players are reportedly not part of plans for the ODI World Cup 2027. Former BCCI selector says Rohit and Kohli should move on Former BCCI selection committee member Devang Gandhi believes it is time to move on from the experienced pair to create opportunities for young talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan in the ODI format. 'How will you make players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan, among others, sit out when they have shown how well they can adapt? The bigger transition is from T20s to Tests. Once a player has done well in Test cricket and has the power game, ODIs should come easier to them. It is very important that the selectors and the team management sit together and take a call,' Gandhi told the Times of India. Rohit and Kohli will need to play Domestic cricket According to reports, if Rohit and Kohli want to continue playing 50-over cricket, they will need to play domestic cricket. However, the BCCI has not yet made their decision official. However, Gandhi believes that even this may not be possible, as young players must be prepared for the ODI World Cup in case Virat and Rohit don't perform as expected before the main event. 'If, say, in a year's time, we come to a situation where one of them is not firing and we need a replacement, the team management may not have enough time to prepare a player for the job,' Gandhi said. 'There's absolutely no doubt about the contribution of Rohit and Virat. But time doesn't wait for anybody,' Gandhi added.

Did Team India Miss Virat Kohli In England Test Tour? Star Pacer Says: "Not Made Of..."
Despite the Test retirements of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, an exuberant India side led by Shubman Gill snatched a 2-2 draw against England in the five-match Test series. Gill-led India won more sessions of play throughout the series as well. One of India's unsung heroes was pacer Akash Deep, who scalped 13 wickets in three matches, including 10 in one match as India won the second Test at Edgbaston. Now, Akash Deep has downplayed the absence of Kohli from the Test squad. When asked whether the Test team missed Kohli, Akash Deep chose to highlight the team atmosphere. "See, this is a team. I feel that one day I may not be there, but the team atmosphere will continue to be the same. The team is not made of one person, but by 11," Akash Deep said in an interview with Aaj Tak. Akash Deep's words follows in the mantra set by head coach Gautam Gambhir, who has long fought for the recognition of every single member of the side, and not just one or two stars. Akash Deep has also previously shared the dressing room with Kohli, with the star batter even gifting him one of his bats. Kohli announced his Test retirement during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, calling time on a career that saw him become India's most successful Test captain and amass 9,230 runs in 123 Tests. However, India have coped fairly well despite the losses of Kohli and Rohit from the Test setup. Gill led from the front, scoring 754 runs in five Tests - the second-highest run-tally by an Indian in one series in the history of Test cricket. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja also scored more than 500 runs in the series, while Rishabh Pant made 479, missing the final Test due to injury. Yashasvi Jaiswal made two centuries and Washington Sundar made one, making it a memorable series with the bat for the visitors. On the other hand, India's pace attack found its moment to shine despite the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Mohammed Siraj finished as the top wicket-taker of the series with 23, while Akash Deep took 13 and Prasidh Krishna scalped 14.
