BSF jawan abducted by Bangladeshi nationals in West Bengal's Murshidabad, released later
A BSF trooper was allegedly abducted by Bangladeshi nationals in West Bengal's Murshidabad district but was released a few hours later after intervention with the Border Guard Bangladesh, PTI reported citing officials.
'The incident took place in the early hours near Chandni Chowk, close to the Border Security Force camp in Sutiar, Nurpur in the district,' they said.
PTI reported citing BSF sources, that the jawan was trying to stop an infiltration attempt from the Bangladesh side near Kathalia village when he was captured by miscreants from Bangladesh's Chapai Nawabganj district.
'He was abducted by Bangladeshi nationals and was held captive, but was released within a couple of hours after we flagged the issue with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The jawan is now with us and doing fine,' a senior BSF official of the South Bengal Frontier told PTI.
The trooper was handed over to the Indian authorities after a flag meeting between the two border forces.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, the sources told PTI.
The BSF is reviewing security protocols in the area, but is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Itanagar: Two militants of the national socialist council of Nagaland-Khaplang or NSCN-K (Yung Aung faction) were gunned down in an encounter with Indian security forces near Arunachal Pradesh's Longding district on Thursday morning. According to a statement from the defence ministry, the patrol spotted suspected armed individuals and challenged them, prompting indiscriminate gunfire using heavy-calibre weapons from the militants. Security forces responded swiftly, forcing the armed group to retreat across the international border into Myanmar under cover of the thick jungle. A thorough search was conducted, but the militants had already fled the area, the ministry statement said. The NSCN (YA), which issued a statement confirming the deaths of two of its cadres, Nyaklung and Neyung Aung. The security forces suspect the group was attempting either a 'cross-border infiltration or a regrouping manoeuvre.' The militants reportedly retreated after the firefight, using the forested terrain as cover. A search operation was conducted in the area, but no additional casualties or recoveries have been reported.

Lucknow: Man accused of raping 3-year-old killed in gunfight with police
A man, accused of raping a three-year-old girl, was killed in a gunfight with Lucknow police on Friday, The Indian Express reported. The man, identified as Deepak Verma, had allegedly abducted the minor while she was asleep with her parents near Alambagh metro station in Lucknow district the previous night, the newspaper reported. On Thursday, the parents filed a complaint at the Alambagh Police Station alleging that their daughter was raped, PTI reported. After a case was registered, five police teams were formed to probe the incident, the news agency quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) Ashish Srivastava as saying. A reward of Rs 1 lakh was also declared for any information leading to the arrest of the accused, who worked as a water vendor in the area. The accused was reportedly identified through the registration number of the vehicle he used during the alleged crime. The number was captured on a security camera at the Alambagh metro station. A police team went to his house but did not find him there, The Indian Express reported. The police, later, received information that Verma was trying to flee the district. A team reached the spot and tried to stop him, but the accused opened fire, PTI quoted Srivastava as saying. The police team fired in retaliation and Verma was injured in the exchange. He was taken to hospital where he died during treatment, Lucknow Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Mamta Rani Chaudhary told The Indian Express.
