Shreveport lighting Bakowski Bridge blue in recognition of World Autism Day
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The City of Shreveport will light the Bakowski Bridge of Lights blue in recognition of World Autism Day.

'World Autism Day is about fostering understanding, breaking down barriers, and celebrating the unique contributions of individuals with autism,' said City Council Chairwoman Tabatha Taylor. 'This event is an opportunity for us to stand together as a community, demonstrating that Shreveport is a place where everyone belongs.'
According to a press release, this initiative, led by Chairwoman Taylor, aims to promote autism acceptance, foster inclusion, and celebrate the neurodiverse community.
'Lighting the Bakowski Bridge blue is a symbol of our city's commitment to autism acceptance and inclusion,' said Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux. 'We recognize the challenges and triumphs of individuals with autism and their families, and we stand together in support of greater understanding. Shreveport is a community that values every voice, and this initiative reflects our dedication to fostering a city where everyone can thrive.'
The free event is open to the public and will be held on Wednesday, April 2, at 7:15 p.m. at the Riverfront Amphitheater in downtown Shreveport.

BPCC sees record number of dual enrollment graduates
BOSSIER PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A record number of high school students have earned degrees through Bossier Parish Community College's dual-enrollment program. Disney on Ice to debut characters from 'Moana 2' and 'Inside Out 2' The dual enrollment program enables eligible students to earn college credits before they graduate from high school. According to BPCC, 112 high school students from North Louisiana graduated from the college. The most popular programs among these graduates included an associate degree in general studies, electrician technology, emergency medical technician training, nursing assistant, and welding. 'This achievement highlights the incredible opportunities that dual enrollment provides, and we couldn't be prouder, ' said Jamie Hilburn, BPCC's dual enrollment coordinator. While many students across the region participated, the most active engagement for the program came from Bienville, Sabine, Natchitoches, and DeSoto parish schools. Free bonsai exhibition showcases ancient art with modern twist
LONGVIEW, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — Ancient skills with a modern twist will be on display for free at the Longview Arboretum and Nature Center. For 100s of years, people have studied bonsai. The word bonsai comes from combining the Japanese word for pot or container and word for cultivate. The most simple translation is that bonsai is the art of cultivating dwarf trees. Bonsai is not a specific type of tree; many pines and junipers are typically used. It is any tree that is grown in a pot and artificially prevented from reaching its normal size. Bonsai is also not originally Japanese. Dancing and dirt at Shreveport Green's Volunteer Day Bonsai originated in China by the fourth century and spread to Korea. Through Korea, it spread to Japan by the sixth century and spread further, becoming popular in places around the world. The Gregg County Master Gardeners and the Longview Bonsai Society are holding a bonsai exhibition from June 20 to July 3. On June 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., a special seminar, 'Master the Possibilities: Intro to Bonsai,' will teach the basics of bonsai care and design and provide the opportunity to ask questions about the practice.
