Mr Gardiner was driving a white Volkswagen Golf R estate when it came off the road near Cheadle, Greater Manchester and rolled before landing on its side, police said.
The landscape gardener competed in the global travel competition's second series with his mother, Jo Gardiner, who said she was 'devastated'.

The accident happened on the A34 in Gatley, near Cheadle on Monday, May 26 and he died on Thursday, May 29 from his injuries, his family said.
He had been working on an isolated estate on the west coast of Scotland and was home in Manchester for a family gathering.
Mrs Gardiner, who was featured in the 2020 series that was set in Mexico and Argentina, and his father, Andrew, said they were 'devastated' and would 'hold on to the memories that made him so special'.
They also said that their son was 'loyal, funny and fiercely protective', and 'brought warmth, laughter and a smattering of chaos wherever he went. He leaves behind a huge hole in our hearts'.
Police confirmed the 'single vehicle collision', and said his family are being 'supported by specially trained officers'.
A spokesperson for Race Across The World said he had been an 'integral part' of the show and sent their 'deepest condolences to his parents, Andrew and Jo; his brothers, William and Charlie; his step mum Justine; his family and friends'.
The statement also said: 'Everyone who worked with him and indeed everyone who watched Sam could see just how precious and transformative the trip was for both him and his mum, Jo.
'Sam embraced the seven-week trip with an energy, love and a determination that saw the pair enjoy adventures across Mexico to Argentina, making audiences fall in love with them and their special bond as a result.'
There are plans for a private funeral for family and friends.

Hugh Bonneville says final Downton Abbey film is 'tribute' to Dame Maggie Smith
Hugh Bonneville has said the final Downton Abbey film will be a 'proper tribute' to Dame Maggie Smith. The late star played Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, in the ITV period drama, appearing in the hit TV series and spin-off films. The character died in the 2022 film Downton Abbey: A New Era, and Smith died in 2024 at the age of 89. Speaking on The One Show, Bonneville told how it was 'poignant' making the final film, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, without her. A trailer for the film has just been unveiled, and it included a glimpse at a portrait of Lady Violet. When Downton star Bonneville appeared on The One Show on Thursday, 5 June, presenter Alex Jones asked him: 'It must be very odd Hugh though, after she left the series and now she has passed away, must be odd making anything without her being there?' "Yes,' said Bonneville, who plays Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham. 'It was quite poignant making the show knowing that it would be the last film, knowing that her character had passed away and then in real life, she passed away after we finished filming. "So, really, this final film will be a proper tribute to her and to the legacy of the show, which is coming to an end after 15 years." Actor Tom Cullen was also on The One Show sofa, and he talked about how Smith was 'very funny' when he played Anthony Foyle, Viscount Gillingham, on Downton. 'If you could make Maggie laugh, that felt really good,' he said. Cullen went on, as Bonneville nodded. 'I have never really worked with an actor quite like her before where it will feel like it is not quite there and then she would just deliver genius.' Smith died in September, with her sons announcing the death in a statement. It said: "She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27 September. An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother. "We would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and unstinting kindness during her final days. We thank you for all your kind messages and support and ask that you respect our privacy at this time." The One Show airs at 7pm on BBC One on weekdays. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale will be released in UK cinemas on Friday, 12 September.

Celebrity Race Across the World 2025 line-up rumours so far from Strictly couple to Roman Kemp
Don't be too disappointed that Race Across the World is coming to an end next week as Celebrity Race Across the World is coming back later this year. Rumours have been swirling about who the four teams taking on the BBC show challenge are. So far the rumoured teams are: Strictly couple Molly Rainford and Tyler West as well as siblings Roman Kemp and his sister Harley, plus Dylan Llewellyn. It's not yet known who the other two pairings could be. There are always four pairs on the celebrity edition as there is no elimination round. Last year's competitors included: winners Scott Mills and his husband Sam, Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi, Jeff Brazier and his son Freddy as well as Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary-Ellen. GMB weatherman Alex Beresford and his dad Noel won the first version of the celebrity show that aired in 2023. They were competing against siblings Billy Monger and his sister Bonny, Mel Blatt and her mum, as well as Harry Judd and his mum. Derry Girls star Dylan Llewellyn is being tipped for Celebrity Race Across the World, according to The Sun. The Beyond Paradise star, who plays sweet Kelby on the BBC show, would be swapping acting and learning lines for an adventure. It would take him to different corners of the world. Although his name has been leaked, it is not known who could be his possible partner for the trip of a lifetime. We can't wait to find out more! Couple Molly Rainford and Tyler West are believed to be starring in the Celebrity Race Across the World 2025 line-up. They first fell in love when they first set eyes on each other on the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom. They were competing celebrities on the 2022 series. Their relationship will be tested to the limits on Race Across the World where they will have to budget and plan the best route together. They have already taken their relationship to the next level as they moved in with each other last year. Last year, Rainford told MailOnline of their relationship: "We are good and going strong and are actually moving in together. We're just going through, you know dining tables and sofas and all that kind of stuff, it's exciting." West added: "Yeah, adult life is real! Molly's turned into a whole interior designer. So I'm just taking a complete back seat. She's just like, "What do you think about this?" You've got Pintrest boards going so it's great." Roman Kemp and his older sister Harleymoon are also believed to be lined up for Celebrity Race Across the World. The siblings grew up in the limelight together, with famous parents Spandau Ballet's Martin Kemp and Wham! band member, Shirlie Holliman. As teenagers they would often be on the glamorous red carpets for the stars with their mum and dad. They both followed their parents footsteps into the spotlight. Harleymoon became a singer releasing her first song Space in 2020 while Kemp made waves on the radio. Despite appearances, Kemp detailed his struggles of feeling like he didn't fit in with his family. "I really upset my mum recently, because I said that sometimes I feel like I don't fit in with our family," he told The Guardian in January 2025. "I go back home and my dad will be on the piano, my sister will be singing, my mum's taking videos and pictures. And I just want to be on my own. I'm not… embarrassed by it, but that form of extroversion is not really me." In April last year, Kemp quit his Capital breakfast radio show after eight year but he has continued with building his profile in the showbiz world. Who else could be starring on Celebrity Race Across the World? Only time will tell. Yahoo UK has reached out to Celebrity Race Across the World representatives for further comment. BBC confirms date for this year's ‘Trooping the Colour: The King's Birthday Parade'
The BBC has confirmed the date for this year's 'Trooping the Colour: The King's Birthday Parade'. With the monarch due to hit 77 later this year, the show will be broadcast on Saturday 14 June 2025, with highlights airing on BBC Two at 7pm and full coverage following later that evening on BBC One at 10.30pm. More than 1,350 soldiers will take part in the ceremonial event, including more than 300 musicians from the Massed Bands and 250 soldiers from the Foot Guards, who will line the processional route along The Mall. This will mark Charles' third Trooping the Colour since his accession to the throne in 2022. The parade has long commemorated the sovereign's official birthday – regardless of the monarch's actual date of birth – and has been a tradition since the 18th century. King Charles was born on 14 November. The BBC is set to dedicate significant airtime to the royal event. Following highlights on BBC Two, 'Trooping the Colour: The King's Birthday Parade' will be shown in full on BBC One, offering audiences across the UK the opportunity to witness one of the year's major state occasions. The parade is expected to draw crowds to central London and will feature a full military display, processions and a flypast. It comes as Charles mourns the death of Major General Sir Christopher Airy, the former private secretary to him and his late wife Diana, Princess of Wales. He passed away aged 91 on 7 April, just three months after the death of his spouse and leaves behind two daughters and a son. Christopher Airy took on the role of Private Secretary and Treasurer to Charles in 1990, when the King was still Prince of Wales. His appointment came after a distinguished 35-year military career, during which he rose to the rank of Major General and commanded the Household Division. He was well known to both Queen Elizabeth II and Charles. Although it is understood he had a cordial relationship with Diana, his tenure in the royal household lasted less than 12 months. According to The Times, he found the wide-ranging structure of Charles's operations challenging. The paper reported: 'He found it difficult to draw lines between the various charities and advisory groups.' He resigned from the role voluntarily and was formally received by Queen Elizabeth II on his departure.
