Race Across The World dedicates episode to Sam Gardiner after his death
Race Across The World has dedicated its latest episode to former contestant Sam Gardiner, following his death at the age of 24 in a car crash.
Mr Gardiner was driving a white Volkswagen Golf R estate when it came off the road near Cheadle, Greater Manchester and rolled before landing on its side, police said.
The landscape gardener competed in the global travel competition's second series with his mother, Jo Gardiner, who said she was 'devastated'.
Wednesday's episode of the fifth series on BBC One ended with a picture of Mr Gardiner, saying: 'In loving memory of Sam Gardiner 2000-2025'.

The accident happened on the A34 in Gatley, near Cheadle on Monday, May 26 and he died on Thursday, May 29 from his injuries, his family said.
He had been working on an isolated estate on the west coast of Scotland and was home in Manchester for a family gathering.
Mrs Gardiner, who was featured in the 2020 series that was set in Mexico and Argentina, and his father, Andrew, said they were 'devastated' and would 'hold on to the memories that made him so special'.
They also said that their son was 'loyal, funny and fiercely protective', and 'brought warmth, laughter and a smattering of chaos wherever he went. He leaves behind a huge hole in our hearts'.
Police confirmed the 'single vehicle collision', and said his family are being 'supported by specially trained officers'.
A spokesperson for Race Across The World said he had been an 'integral part' of the show and sent their 'deepest condolences to his parents, Andrew and Jo; his brothers, William and Charlie; his step mum Justine; his family and friends'.
The statement also said: 'Everyone who worked with him and indeed everyone who watched Sam could see just how precious and transformative the trip was for both him and his mum, Jo.
'Sam embraced the seven-week trip with an energy, love and a determination that saw the pair enjoy adventures across Mexico to Argentina, making audiences fall in love with them and their special bond as a result.'
There are plans for a private funeral for family and friends.

'It was quite poignant making the show knowing that it would be the last film, knowing that her character had passed away and then in real life, she passed away after we finished filming. "So, really, this final film will be a proper tribute to her and to the legacy of the show, which is coming to an end after 15 years." Actor Tom Cullen was also on The One Show sofa, and he talked about how Smith was 'very funny' when he played Anthony Foyle, Viscount Gillingham, on Downton. "We would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and unstinting kindness during her final days. Don't be too disappointed that Race Across the World is coming to an end next week as Celebrity Race Across the World is coming back later this year. Rumours have been swirling about who the four teams taking on the BBC show challenge are. So far the rumoured teams are: Strictly couple Molly Rainford and Tyler West as well as siblings Roman Kemp and his sister Harley, plus Dylan Llewellyn. It's not yet known who the other two pairings could be. There are always four pairs on the celebrity edition as there is no elimination round. Last year's competitors included: winners Scott Mills and his husband Sam, Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi, Jeff Brazier and his son Freddy as well as Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary-Ellen. GMB weatherman Alex Beresford and his dad Noel won the first version of the celebrity show that aired in 2023. They were competing against siblings Billy Monger and his sister Bonny, Mel Blatt and her mum, as well as Harry Judd and his mum. Derry Girls star Dylan Llewellyn is being tipped for Celebrity Race Across the World, according to The Sun. BBC confirms date for this year's ‘Trooping the Colour: The King's Birthday Parade'
The BBC has confirmed the date for this year's 'Trooping the Colour: The King's Birthday Parade'. With the monarch due to hit 77 later this year, the show will be broadcast on Saturday 14 June 2025, with highlights airing on BBC Two at 7pm and full coverage following later that evening on BBC One at 10.30pm. More than 1,350 soldiers will take part in the ceremonial event, including more than 300 musicians from the Massed Bands and 250 soldiers from the Foot Guards, who will line the processional route along The Mall. This will mark Charles' third Trooping the Colour since his accession to the throne in 2022. The parade has long commemorated the sovereign's official birthday – regardless of the monarch's actual date of birth – and has been a tradition since the 18th century. King Charles was born on 14 November. The BBC is set to dedicate significant airtime to the royal event. Following highlights on BBC Two, 'Trooping the Colour: The King's Birthday Parade' will be shown in full on BBC One, offering audiences across the UK the opportunity to witness one of the year's major state occasions. The parade is expected to draw crowds to central London and will feature a full military display, processions and a flypast. It comes as Charles mourns the death of Major General Sir Christopher Airy, the former private secretary to him and his late wife Diana, Princess of Wales. He passed away aged 91 on 7 April, just three months after the death of his spouse and leaves behind two daughters and a son. Christopher Airy took on the role of Private Secretary and Treasurer to Charles in 1990, when the King was still Prince of Wales. His appointment came after a distinguished 35-year military career, during which he rose to the rank of Major General and commanded the Household Division. He was well known to both Queen Elizabeth II and Charles. Although it is understood he had a cordial relationship with Diana, his tenure in the royal household lasted less than 12 months. According to The Times, he found the wide-ranging structure of Charles's operations challenging. The paper reported: 'He found it difficult to draw lines between the various charities and advisory groups.' He resigned from the role voluntarily and was formally received by Queen Elizabeth II on his departure.
