Cow dung disposal creates challenges for Ludhiana's sewage treatment plants.
A random visit to the ETPs or STPs, especially Balloke, reveals heaps of cow dung lying in the complex, creating a major issue in the cleaning of the wastewater.
One biogas plant is located in Haibowal dairy complex, where cow dung waste is coming from the dairies. As it is not sufficient, construction work on an additional biogas plant is going to start by the end of this month. The major issue is on Tajpur Road, where even after almost a decade, land could not be provided for installing the plant.
According to the MC officials, out of 600-650 tonnes of cow dung is generated daily, approximately 250 tonnes is collected by the MC and vermi-composted through an agency, 210 tonnes is used by the compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Haibowal, and almost 100 tonnes is used by nearby villagers as compost. However, 70-80 tonnes is still being discharged into the Buddha water body untreated.
Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) is running a 210 TPD cow dung plant at Haibowal, and an additional 300 TPD capacity CBG plant will be operational in two years.

The MC has allocated land for this purpose. However, the land permissibility issue at Urban Estate, Glada, where 2.4 acres was allocated by Glada for another 300 TPD CBG plant for Tajpur dairy waste, is still ongoing as residents are protesting against this plant.
The Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC) is examining the feasibility of provisioning alternate land in its 15-acre industrial pocket at Tajpur Road for the same, in consultation with PEDA. According to PEDA officials, they have raised the demand of Rs 18 crore for giving this land to them for the plant.
Municipal commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal admitted that without finding a solution to dairy waste, it was difficult to solve the Buddha Dariya pollution issue and for that, CBG plants are a must.

Gauhati HC accepts PIL by Mizoram truck owners org
Aizawl: Gauhati High Court has accepted the public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the Mizoram Truck Owners Asscociation (MTOA) on the deplorable road conditions across Mizoram and issued show cause notices to the state chief secretary, engineer-in-chief, chief engineer (roads) and chief engineer (highways) of state PWD, secretary for ministry of road transport & highways (MoRTH) and executive director of national highways infrastructure development corporation ltd (NHIDCL). A two-judge bench of Justice Marly Vankung and Justice Sanjeev Kumar Sharma on Wednesday heard Rosalynn L Hmar, counsel for the petitioner and while admitting the PIL said, "The matter is a great concern which affects the general public." The bench added, "The learned counsels for the respondents are to file their affidavits showing caused as to why the conditions of the road in the mentioned stretches of road are in such a poor condition and also inform the Court as to the steps taken for the maintenance and improvement of the said stretch of roads highlighted by the petitioners." The matter is listed after 4 weeks. The MTOA filed the PIL due to poor road conditions at 4 highways - Aizawl – Kolasib – Kolasib – Silchar via Durtlang covering 180 km stretch as the roads have not been repaired and not properly maintained for a long time. The PIL also points out that the roads along Aizawl to Silchar (Assam), specially Kawnpui – Bualpui – Sethawn – Thingdawl – Kolasib – Rengtekawn – Bilkhawthlir – Chhimluang – Vairengte, within 54.00 km to 132.00 km stretch are in a dilapidated conditions. The other roads mentioned in the PIL are - Aizawl to Kanghmun via Mamit covering 189 km specially from Dapchhuah – Dampui – Mamit – Bawngva – Darlak – Tuidam – Kawrthah – Rengdil – Zamuang – Zawlnuam - Bungthuam – Luimawi – Kanhmun – Saicherra – Kawrtethawveng - Bunghmun – Serhmun – Tuilukawn. Another road taken up in the PIL is Lunglei – Tlabung road covering 97 km stretch which is from Hauruang – Pachang – Phairuang – Rotlang West – Lungsen – Tuichhawng – Tlabung road is a part of the National Highway 302 and is currently maintain by the NHIDCL. Counsel for the petitioner submitted that the Aizawl – Tuipang road project which includes the Lunglei – Tlabung stretch has a total length of 732.10 km and a project cost of Rs. 14,994.94 crore have been sanctioned. The Chungkhum – Tlabung section of NH – 302 is being develop with an estimate cost of 497.50 crore. She further submitted in spite of the huge amount of the money sanctioned, the road conditions remain extremely poor. She also submitted that Lunglei – Chawngte road covering 100 km including Hauruang – Pachang – Phairuang – Rotlang West – Rangte – Lalnutui – South Lungrang – Chawngte is also in a worst condition. Memorial event honours victims of partition tragedy
Kanpur: On the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, a memorial event was organised at the Veerangana Rani Lakshmibai Auditorium located at Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University, honouring the countless unnamed victims of the 1947 partition. The programme began with a two-minute silence in tribute to those who perished during the tragedy. District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh said ," In the tragedy of partition, we lost a significant part of our nation. In 1947, there was a massive displacement of people in the Indian subcontinent, with nearly a million people losing their lives. These people endured countless difficulties and struggles, contributing immeasurably to the progress of independent India today." CDO Deeksha Jain said that the suffering of those who endured the tragedy of partition cannot be expressed in words. In their honour, records from the national archives related to the partition and books on the historical tragedy were displayed. Haj 2026: Over 12,000 from Maharashtra selected in lucky draw, more than 17,000 in waiting list
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Haj Committee of India, under the guidance of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, completed the qurrah (lucky draw) for selecting applicants for Haj 2026. Maharashtra has been allocated a quota of 12,467 seats. While 12,443 pilgrims have already been selected in the lucky draw, 17,443 are placed on the waiting list. From Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, 833 pilgrims have been selected, with a waiting list of 1,289, according to the federation of haj pilgrims social workers. Shaikh Faisal, the federation's member, said that the minority affairs ministry assumed the same quota of 1,75,025 seats allotted by Saudi Arabia for Haj 2025 for India. "As per the order from the Haj Committee of India, selected pilgrims must deposit Rs 1,52,300 per person on or before Aug 20, 2025. In line with Haj 2026 guidelines, pilgrims must also submit their original passport, self-attested copies of the application form, undertaking, medical screening certificate, and payment slip to the Maharashtra State Haj Committee office in Mumbai," he said. Pilgrims from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have been requested to visit the office of the Khidmat-e-Hujjaj committee in the Juna Bazaar area for assistance and further guidance.
