Teen woman, 18, suffers life-changing injuries after ‘getting hair caught in funfair ride'

AN 18-YEAR-old has been rushed to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries after her hair got caught in a funfair ride.
The horror unfolded at Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show, near Southampton, in Hampshire, at 10.53pm on Saturday.

Paramedics rushed the girl to hospital with head injuries after her hair reportedly became stuck in one of the rides.
Fairgoer Emma Perry, who was there with her daughter, described the "traumatic" scenes.
She told the DailyEcho: "The girl was on the oscillating floor in the Fun House when she slipped, fell backwards and her hair got caught in the rollers on the floor.
'Her friend came off the ride and said she was bleeding, so I offered my services as a first aider.
'When I got up there, I saw that three quarters of the girl's scalp had been ripped off in what we call a degloving incident."
Emma claimed the teen was taken away on a stretcher, while fire crews had to cut a section of the ride away.
Thee 51-year-old recalled the youngster was "screaming" and "very distressed".
Another bystander who helped the teen told the BBC: "One of the girl's friends came down and said how serious it was and some of us offered assistance.
"It's very shocking it could happen on a fairground ride that young children go on. This must never happen again."
Charles Cole, who runs the event, dubbed it a "freak accident" that was under investigation.
He told the Echo: "Nobody wants to hurt anyone, and we are a family business. Last night was very upsetting, especially for the man who owns the ride.
"Safety is our priority, and we sympathise with the girl and her parents."
Cllr David Harrison said he is "shocked and saddened" by the incident.
He added: "I am sure it will be properly investigated and any necessary action taken.
"My thoughts are with the injured person, family and friends."
A Health and Safety Executive spokesperson said the incident was "local authority enforced and with Hampshire police".
A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.53pm on July 26 with reports that an 18-year-old woman had sustained potentially life-changing injuries to her head while on a ride at Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show.
"She was taken to hospital for treatment.
"Police attended and have liaised with the Health and Safety Executive."
Meanwhile the fair announced today: "Good morning from day three of the show.
"Despite what you may have read or seen online, we are open and look forward to seeing you all!"

A three-page note was found on Tamura's body that horrifically presented a health battle caused by American football as his excuse. According to CNN, he wrote in it: 'Terry Long football gave me CTE and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze. 'You can't go against the NFL, they'll squash you. Tamura wrote that he suffered from the neurodegenerative disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). CTE is linked to repeated head trauma and is only diagnosed through an autopsy of the brain. CTE has been a major issue for the NFL with a number of former players with the disease committing atrocious acts of violence. Terry Long, a former football player for the Pittsburgh Steelers, died by suicide after drinking antifreeze in 2005. Another horror case of CTE-violence was when former NFL tight end Aaron Hernandez was convicted of murdering Odin Lloyd in 2013. Tamura had played football at high school in California where he was said to be a standout player. But former classmate Caleb Clarke told NBC that Tamura hadn't lived up to the promise he had shown. He said about his former classmate: 'The only thing I can really think of is there was a point where it looked like the sky was the limit, and then it wasn't anymore." What is CTE? CHRONIC Traumatic Encephalopathy is known as a brain condition that is often linked to repeated head trauma. The condition is diagnosed after death and is commonly found in pro-sports players due to concussions. Some symptoms of CTE include memory loss, confusion, impaired judgment, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and progressive dementia. These signs can begin to appear after years or even decades after the last brain trauma. A CTE scan is used to diagnose the brain disease after someone has passed away as there is no test to run while someone is alive. Doctors often slice brain tissue and use special chemicals to make the abnormal tau protein visible to examine for patterns related to CTE. The NFL occupies floors five to eight in the building - raising the possibility that he was targeting the sports organisation in the horror attack. But, Tamura shot and killed three in the lobby and then rode the lift to the 33rd floor offices of the company that owned the building, Rudin Management. The shooter got into an elevator after he spared a woman who had been inside the lift set to go up to the 33rd floor, according to CNN. Tisch said there were no indication that Tamura had prior connections to the real estate industry. Tamura had a history of serious mental health issues, according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch. A 33-year-old man can be seen setting fire to several patches of grass which sit next to a pavement as he and his friend walk past. He casually walks off pretending nothing has happened as the flames begin to grow higher. Moments later, he returns and can be seen trying to fan the flames with his hands so they spread quicker up the hill. Authorities have managed to track down the arsonist and charged him with terrorism. Several other people have been arrested over similar offences in recent days. Sabotage has become a rife issue in southern Europe since a heatwave hit earlier this month. In Bulgaria alone, around 90 per cent of the blazes have been caused by human error and negligence, according to Miroslav Rashkov, the head of the interior ministry. Footage has already caught several suspects across the continent. Shock moment beachgoers surrounded by smoke as raging wildfires in Italian hols hotspot CCTV in Turkey caught a man suspiciously carrying bottles filled with water before emptying them and refilling them with petrol at a gas station. The suspect was later found by police with burns on his arms and legs after a fire in the village of Kismanlar. Spain and Portugal Brits have been put on high alert over wildfires tearing through the popular holiday island of Tenerife in Spain. A fire sparked in the north and has continued to spread towards busy resorts in Santiago del Teide in recent hours. Tenerife has been on red alert for the high risk of forest fires after the soaring temperatures hit 36 degrees. President of Tenerife's government, Rosa Davila said conditions were "complicated" due to the extreme heat and high winds. The Iberian Peninsula is also bracing for further issues in the coming days. Four Spanish planes joined more than 250 Portuguese firefighters battling a mountain blaze in Viana do Castelo district on the Portuguese-Spanish border. The flames were spreading in two directions and were being pulled around by strong winds, civil protection chief Marco Domingues said. Large swaths of northern and southern Portugal are now on the highest alert for wildfires. Turkey The most deadly of the European fires have come from Turkey. At least 17 people have been killed in the apocalyptic wildfires as record-breaking 50C heat and howling winds fuel devastation across the eastern Mediterranean. The infernos have forced more than 3,500 residents to flee their homes, with vast swathes of forest reduced to ash. Ten rescue volunteers and forestry workers lost their lives in a blaze in Eskisehir last week, while four more died outside Bursa over the weekend. Firefighters have battled more than 600 blazes in the past week, with over 1,900 emergency responders drafted in to help save trapped residents. According to forecasts, the temperatures will remain fiery this week with 45C to 50C heat expected in southeast Turkey. Greece Holidaymakers are also being urged to take caution when travelling in Greece this month. A week-long heatwave peaking at 45C has sparked multiple wildfires, forcing mass evacuations near Athens and across the islands of Crete and Evia. A huge blaze scorched a northern suburb of the Greek capital over the weekend, with 115 firefighters and 24 vehicles deployed on Evia, backed by six planes and seven helicopters. Kirsty White hurled abuse at Andrew Crosby outside his home and stalked him with love messages through bank transfers. She called innocent Andrew a "paedophile" and "rapist" and accused him of beating women on his Facebook page. The victim told how he considered taking his own life due to the abuse and now suffers with anxiety. White has been jailed for 43 weeks after she admitted stalking between April and June 2025. Warrington Magistrates' Court was told the pair had a one-night stand in December 2024 after meeting in a pub. Andrew did not want a relationship at the time and in March 2025, he spurned White's advances on a night out in Blackpool. Elizabeth Browne, prosecuting, said: "On April 11, the complainant lent £20 to the defendant but she did not pay it back and he asked her to leave him alone. "The defendant then posted Mr Crosby's personal details on Facebook, accusing him of being a woman beater. ''On April 18, she went to Mr Crosby's address and started shouting towards him, calling him a 'rapist' and a 'paedophile'. These are all untrue allegations. "He called 999, told her to leave him alone and blocked her. But on April 19, he received messages asking to be unblocked and got a call from a number he did not recognise and a text message saying 'Hello. 'Do not ring the police on me again'." White was arrested and later bailed on the condition she did not contact Andrew again. But over a ten-day period sent him small amounts of money via online bank transfers with messages in the reference saying: "Love you always, Kirsty White." White also contacted Andrew on Facebook using different profiles and sent him two parcels. Andrew was forced to flee his home with his parents as a result of the harassment and is now believed to be sofa surfing with friends. He told police how his mum ended up in hospital with stress and his dad, who suffers from epilepsy, also suffered seizures during the stalking campaign. Andrew added: "As a result of this crime, I suffer severe anxiety and I am constantly looking behind my back. ''Kirsty had been stayed with her father over the road from me and this has caused my family a lot of stress and put a stain on our relationship. It caused me to become physically sick due to Kirsty constantly trying to contact me and also trying to get my attention. "Kirsty has been messaging my family and friends asking for my address. I am very wary of other people due to this. It will take a lot to trust anyone. "It has taken over my life. I feel I see Kirsty everywhere I go. I should not have to live like this. I feel very vulnerable. "I have to constantly watch what I am doing, and who I am talking to. I feel she is constantly trying to ruin my life." As well as a jail sentence, White was also ordered to £400 in compensation and slapped with a five-year restraining order. Sentencing, JP Jeffrey Dodd said: "I think everyone is in agreement that this is a really serious offence. "We have been swayed by the victim impact statement.
