The award cements the country's reputation as a global tourism powerhouse and marks its continued presence in the top 10 for more than a decade.
The annual awards, voted for by tens of thousands of Telegraph readers, celebrate the world's most beloved destinations. South Africa's enduring popularity was highlighted by its diverse and magnetic tourism offerings, from the cosmopolitan charm of Cape Town to the wildlife-rich Kruger National Park, and the scenic Garden Route.
Cape Town, in particular, was recognised not only for its striking landscape and culture but also ranked highly in the Telegraph's city-specific polls.
In a separate accolade, Cape Town was also named one of the world's 20 best cities for nightlife in the Times' 2025 global nightlife rankings. The South African city was celebrated for its eclectic after-dark energy, combining gritty warehouse raves, glamorous rooftop lounges, and a signature soundtrack of Afro-house and amapiano beats that keep both locals and visitors dancing until sunrise.
Meanwhile, Botswana earned the 10th spot on the Telegraph's list, reinforcing its standing as one of the continent's most timeless and awe-inspiring travel destinations.
While the country hasn't moved up the rankings, its steady position reflects a consistent global admiration for its unspoiled wilderness and conservation-driven tourism.
At the heart of Botswana's appeal is the Okavango Delta, one of the world's largest inland deltas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for its spectacular biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes, the delta draws nature lovers, photographers, and adventurers year after year.

Senegal introduces E-Visa payment requirement for non-African travelers

The country's Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko confirmed that visitors from outside the African continent would now be required to pay their visa application fees online in advance. According to Sputnik Afrique, the reform was introduced as part of ongoing efforts to modernise and secure the country's migration infrastructure. Officials stated that the measure would strengthen administrative security, limit potential abuse, and simplify procedures for Senegalese migration services. The new measure will also help the West African country streamline immigration processes and reinforce the country's administrative capacity. By enforcing advanced online payments, the reform aimed to improve transparency, reduce congestion at border posts, and ensure that only qualified applicants completed the visa process. The electronic visa announcement comes as Senegal pursues ambitious plans for economic transformation under its 'Senegal 2050' strategic vision, unveiled last week alongside the new National Economic and Social Recovery Plan. E-visa reform projected to boost revenue These reforms, backed by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye's administration, aim to restore budgetary sovereignty and strengthen Senegal's role in regional and global affairs. In his address, Prime Minister Sonko stated that the country is expected to generate an estimated 60 billion CFA francs in revenue from the e-visa fees. He added that the requirement was based on the principle of reciprocity, meaning citizens of countries that required visas for Senegalese nationals would now face the same requirement when entering Senegal. Although details regarding implementation, such as pricing, specific countries affected, and processing timelines, are yet to be made public, nations such as France, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and China, all of which require visas for Senegalese citizens, are expected to fall under the new rules. The initiative places Senegal alongside other African countries like Namibia, which had recently introduced similar reciprocal visa policies. It also highlighted Senegal's efforts to assert a more balanced approach in its international relations and migration management.

Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line face alarming incidents

Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line face alarming incidents originally appeared on TravelHost. Although cruises are most commonly associated with carefree vacation vibes, occasionally distressing incidents happen on board ships that leave some cruisers rethinking their vacation choices. But just like a serious crime or accident can occur at any resort you choose to visit, or even in your own neighborhood, cruise ships sometimes become the setting of unfortunate and unexpected events. They are floating cities after a regular city or a floating one, when you bring all kinds of people together, and especially when you add an abundance of alcohol into the mix, you're bound to have some accidents, violence, and crime happen. It's rare, however, to have passengers and news outlets reporting almost simultaneously about serious incidents on two separate cruise ships from two different cruise lines that occurred within a day of each other. But that's exactly what happened as word came from the sea to land about a shocking man overboard incident on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas on July 24. Not long after that news broke, it was reported that the FBI responded to an incident aboard Carnival Dream that concerned many passengers when medical calls rang out on board in the early morning hours of July 23. Incident aboard Carnival Dream cruise ship leads to FBI response In a story that is raising a lot of questions after multiple accounts on social media, an incident aboard the Texas-based Carnival Dream has prompted a federal response, but no criminal investigation has been confirmed. The FBI says it's aware of an event that happened on Carnival Dream last week and is working with the Coast Guard, Customs and Carnival. Passengers reported early morning alerts and an all call for medical help on the Serenity Deck. In a statement, the FBI local field office said: 'FBI Houston is aware of an incident that occurred on July 23, 2025 on the Carnival Dream cruise ship.' Despite what's being posted on social media and quotes given to news stations, Carnival Cruise Line denies any investigation into a suspicious death and says, quote: 'It's disappointing to learn that any guests might be spreading rumors about something they know nothing about.' It should be noted that the FBI has authority over most incidents at sea on American cruise ships, depending on location, departure points, and nationalities Beyond resumes cruises from Florida after repairs Following five days at the Grand Bahamas Shipyard in Freeport, Bahamas, the Celebrity Beyond returned to service yesterday.
