Singapore Oceanarium, formerly S.E.A. Aquarium, to open on July 23 with expanded experiences and research centre
Slated to open to the public on July 23, the new attraction will be three times larger than its predecessor — with 22 immersive experience zones allowing guests to explore marine life across various depths and time, announced RWS on Monday (May 26).
Some examples include Ocean Wonders — a thematic zone that houses thousands of moon jellies (a type of jellyfish) and Singapore's Coast — a mangrove-inspired zone with interactive habitats that highlight our nation's local biodiversity.
Over at Ancient Waters and Conquering Land, visitors can explore the evolution of some of these marine creatures with life-sized prehistoric animals and living fossils.
Another highlight is Open Ocean — a 36m-wide viewing panel where Reef Manta Rays and Zebra Sharks swim freely among other marine life.
As for F&B and retail options, there's Explorer's Nook — a themed cafe with light bites, pastries and trinkets inspired by aquatic life, as well as Singapore Oceanarium Store — where shoppers can find a selection of ocean-inspired apparel, books and other souvenirs created by sustainable brands.
There will also be seasonal pop-ups and capsule collections happening at the store.
Not just an attraction
In addition to being a recreational attraction, Singapore Oceanarium is also an institute dedicated to the education, research and conservation of underwater life — being accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and holding membership in the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums and Southeast Asian Zoo and Aquarium Association.
The institute has also partnered with the National University of Singapore (NUS) for a five-year applied research collaboration and Nanyang Technological University's (NTU) Earth Observatory of Singapore for a two-year research collaboration on climate resilience and marine conservation.
In fact, there's even a Research and Learning Centre located right next to the oceanarium.
Some facilities at the centre include immersive learning labs, collaborative workspaces, seminar rooms and a rooftop event space for scientists and researchers to conduct research and drive marine science outreach.
According to Lam Xue Ying, vice president of the Singapore Oceanarium, the transition from the former S.E.A. Aquarium to the new oceanarium-cum-institute has been "years in the making".
She said: "We are dedicated to inspiring a new generation of ocean stewards by taking ocean education and interactive storytelling to the next level, through naturalistic habitats and immersive technology.
"Supported by academic partnerships, international accreditations and memberships, as well as our new Research and Learning Centre, we're furthering our commitment to marine conservation, research and education."
According to RWS, details on ticket prices and programmes for Singapore Oceanarium will be released soon.

SINGAPORE – Following a successful two-year run of its cafe in Keong Saik Road from 2023, American fashion house Coach has debuted its first permanent The Coach Coffee Shop at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). The 139 sq m cafe, located at RWS' new lifestyle enclave Weave, seats 12 indoors and 23 outdoors. It includes a merchandise section and is directly connected to a Coach store – of about the same size – selling the brand's range of bags, clothes, shoes and accessories. This marks the 14th outlet of The Coach Coffee Shop, which includes Asian outposts in Japan, Indonesia, China, Malaysia and Taiwan. There are two more in the United States. The menu at The Coach Coffee Shop here focuses on classic American sandwiches – grilled cheese ($13), featuring a blend of melted American cheddar, gruyere and extra sharp cheddar, served with tomato soup; wagyu beef hotdog ($15); and reuben ($19) with tender corned beef, sauerkraut and Swiss Cheese. The latter two come with chips. On weekends, the cafe rolls out its cheeseburger ($22), with two wagyu patties, melted red cheddar and housemade sauce, served with curly fries. All the bread is made in-house. The attention to detail is best showcased in the drinks ($8 to $9) department, with its C-shaped ice 'cubes', popsicles and chocolate pieces. Top stories Swipe. Escape, discover, connect: Where new memories are made
This philosophy is guiding the resort's transformation, influencing everything from energy-efficient infrastructure to immersive guest experiences that educate and inspire. These efforts accelerated three years ago when RWS became the first in the world to be certified under both the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Criteria for Destinations and Hotels. RWS' sustainability efforts are guided by four pillars in the framework called L.E.A.D: Lower emissions, Enhance well-being, Amplify impact and Deepen governance. The framework is both an embodiment of the company's commitment and a guiding reminder of its vision to become a leader in sustainable tourism. These include targets for RWS to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. Beyond targets to advance decarbonisation and increase resource efficiency, the L.E.A.D framework inspires team members to take initiative in implementing sustainability in their own unique ways. Ms Ong, 36, shares the story of a chef who was inspired to experiment with orange peels – transforming food waste into cookies now served in hotels and at events. It is a small but powerful example of how sustainable innovation can begin with individual initiative. Stories like these have reinforced a growing belief within RWS: that every team member holds the potential to drive meaningful change. Building on this momentum, the resort is actively involving staff in its sustainability journey.

Singapore Oceanarium opens as part of RWS' S$6.8 billion expansion; set to boost tourism
[SINGAPORE] On Wednesday (Jul 23), Singapore Oceanarium officially opened as part of Resorts World Sentosa's (RWS) S$6.8 billion expansion. The attraction – which was previously known as Sea Aquarium – is part of Singapore's plans to boost tourism. In addition, the oceanarium serves as an 'aquarium-based conservation institution', said RWS, aiming to promote marine education and engagement. Singapore Oceanarium has been revamped to showcase research-inspired installations, immersive exhibits, hands-on programmes and interactive digital experiences. Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu, who was guest of honour at the opening ceremony, said: 'The Singapore Oceanarium contributes to Singapore's position as a leading tourism destination… Its focus on marine education, research and conservation supports Singapore's broader sustainability objectives.' The Singapore Tourism Board said the attraction fits into its Tourism 2040 road map. The sector's receipts aim to reach S$47 billion to S$50 billion by that year. Thien Kwee Eng, chief executive of Sentosa Development Corp, added: 'As we transform and elevate our island's offerings, Singapore Oceanarium is a welcome addition to Sentosa's suite of world-class attractions, strengthening our proposition as a beloved island destination for both locals and overseas guests.' The other attractions at Sentosa include Universal Studios Singapore, Adventure Cove Waterpark and Madame Tussauds Singapore. As part of SG60 festivities, there is a photo gallery inside the Spirit of Exploration zone called Ties That Bind. It showcases ocean life as well as marine animals native to Singapore waters, and aims to raise awareness and action for marine conservation. Singapore Oceanarium will be open to the public from Thursday.
