The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) invites Indigenous Peoples and the public to review the summary of the Initial Project Description and provide comments on the proposed project. This feedback will help IAAC prepare a summary of issues that will be given to the proponent. How can I participate? The summary of the Initial Project Description is also available on the Registry. Participants who wish to provide input in a different format can contact IAAC by writing to [email protected]. Greenlight Electricity Centre Limited Partnership is proposing the construction, operation, and decommissioning of a new power generating facility fueled by natural gas, located in Alberta's Industrial Heartland, about 10 kilometres east of Gibbons. As proposed, the Greenlight Electricity Centre Project would consist of four gas/steam turbine line-ups with a combined production capacity of up to 1,864 megawatts, heat recovery steam generators, an electrical transmission line, and a natural gas pipeline. The project is expected to be in operation for at least 40 years.

CPP Investments Agrees to Sell Stake in Peruvian Energy Infrastructure Company TgP to EIG
TORONTO and WASHINGTON, Aug. 11, 2025 /CNW/ - Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) today announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to sell its 49.87% equity ownership stake in Transportadora de Gas del Peru S.A. ("TgP") to vehicles managed by EIG. TgP operates Peru's main natural gas and natural gas liquids pipelines under a long-term concession, supplying approximately 40% of the country's power generation. "TgP has been a successful investment for CPP Investments over the past decade, delivering strong returns for CPP contributors and beneficiaries," said James Bryce, Head of Infrastructure for CPP Investments. "We look forward to seeing TgP's continued success under EIG. We will continue to seek out and evaluate investment opportunities in Latin America, given the region's attractive fundamentals." CPP Investments first invested in TgP in 2013 and subsequently increased its holding through follow-on transactions from 2014 to 2017, having deployed US$1.4 billion in total. Ontario Court of Appeal finds Ukrainian Airlines liable for the downing of UIA PS 752
TORONTO, Aug. 11, 2025 /CNW/ - Today, the Ontario Court of Appeal upheld the lower court ruling that Ukraine International Airlines is legally responsible to pay full compensation to the families who lost loved ones in the downing of UIA Flight 752 in Iran in January 2020. The law firms of CFM Lawyers LLP, based in Vancouver, and Howie Sacks & Henry, based in Toronto, jointly represent the families of 21 passengers killed in the downing of Flight 752. Flight PS 752, carrying Canadian citizens and permanent residents, was shot down over Tehran by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the early morning hours of January 8, 2020, at a time when military tensions with the United States were rapidly escalating. The Ontario Court found UIA was negligent for failing to conduct a proper assessment of the risks of operating the flight out of Tehran. The appeal court upheld the ruling of Justice Jasmine Akbarali of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice which was issued following an 18-day trial in Toronto that ended in January 2024. "This is an important result for our clients who lost loved ones in the downing of Flight 752", says Joe Fiorante. "The ruling of the Court of Appeal brings a small measure of justice for the families." The judgment means that under the Montreal Convention, the international law which governs the international carriage of passengers, UIA will not be able to limit the compensation payable to the families to $180,000 USD per passenger, but instead will be now obligated to pay full compensatory damages arising from the fatalities. Paul Miller and Jamie Thornback believe that "**This is a landmark decision in the world of aviation. At a time of heightened conflicts around the world, the judgment sends a clear message to international airlines that open airspace cannot be assumed to be safe airspace. Airlines must exercise extreme caution and diligence when operating in or near a conflict zone." A copy of the decision can be found here.
