MSC cancels a season of cruises to relocate ship to Miami
The MSC Maraviglia's move will cause canceled cruises for next year's season that were already open for booking. The company scrapped sailings between Nov. 8, 2026, and April 11, 2027.
The ship has been based at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal since spring of 2023. In April, it will travel to Europe, then move to Miami for the winter season, according to Travel Weekly.
The reason for the change is demand, the cruise line said in a statement.
"In response to the demand we are seeing, this will mark the first season with four ships homeporting in Miami, as MSC Meraviglia joins MSC World America, MSC Poesia, and MSC Seaside. All four ships will sail from our new, state-of-the-art MSC Cruise Terminal at PortMiami, offering an exciting mix of newly introduced sailings and guest-favorite itineraries to the Caribbean and The Bahamas."
The ship will sail six- and-eight-night cruises with stops in Turks and Caicos, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and more, the company said.
Affected guests were given options, including rebooking on one of Meraviglia's new cruises, or any seven-night sailing from Miami, Port Canaveral or Galveston, Texas, or opting for a credit or refund.
MSC Cruises has promised new itineraries to Grand Turk in Turks and Caicos, Philipsburg in St. Maarten, Basseterre in St. Kitts, and other Caribbean destinations.
On social media, some passengers expressed frustration about the compensation, noting the onboard credits offered aren't as "generous" as other cruise lines that cancel trips, Cruise Hive reported.
Cruise lines cancel trips somewhat regularly, usually for ship repairs or issues in the region. Last year, MSC and Silver Moon had to cancel trips to Egypt, Jordan and Israel due to the Israel-Hamas war.
In 2019, MSC said it plans to be the first carbon-neutral cruise line in the world.

A Russian Hacking Group Is Using Fake Versions of MetaMask to Steal $1M in Crypto
The Russian hacking group GreedyBear has scaled up its operations in recent months, using 150 'weaponized Firefox extensions' to target international and English-speaking victims, according to research from Koi Security. Publishing the results of its research in a blog, U.S. and Israel-based Koi reported that the group has 'redefined industrial-scale crypto theft,' using 150 weaponized Firefox extensions, close to 500 malicious executables and 'dozens' of phishing websites to steal over $1 million within the past five weeks. Speaking to Decrypt, Koi CTO Idan Dardikman said that the Firefox campaign is 'by far' its most lucrative attack vector, having 'gained them most of the $1 million reported by itself.' This particular ploy involves creating fake versions of widely downloaded crypto wallets such as MetaMask, Exodus, Rabby Wallet, and TronLink. GreedyBear operatives use Extension Hollowing to bypass marketplace security measures, initially uploading non-malicious versions of the extensions, before updating the apps with malicious code. They also post fake reviews of the extensions, giving the false impression of trust and reliability. But once downloaded, the malicious extensions steal wallet credentials, which in turn are used to steal crypto Not only has GreedyBear been able to steal $1 million in just over a month using this method, but they have greatly ramped up the scale of their operations, with a previous campaign–active between April and July of this year–involving only 40 extensions. The group's other primary attack method involves almost 500 malicious Windows executables, which it has added to Russian websites that distribute pirated or repacked software. Such executables include credential stealers, ransomware software and trojans, which Koi Security suggests indicates'a broad malware distribution pipeline, capable of shifting tactics as needed.' Coinbase Rolls Out DEX Trading on Its App Starting With Base—And Solana 'Coming Soon' The group has also created dozens of phishing websites, which pretend to offer legitimate crypto-related services, such as digital wallets, hardware devices or wallet repair services. GreedyBear uses these websites to coax potential victims into entering personal data and wallet credentials, which it then uses to steal funds. 'It is worth mentioning that the Firefox campaign targeted more global/English-speaking victims, while the malicious executables targeted more Russian-speaking victims,' explains Idan Dardikman, speaking to Decrypt. Despite the variety of attack methods and of targets, Koi also reports that 'almost all' GreedyBear attack domains link back to a single IP address: 185.208.156.66. According to the report, this address functions as a central hub for coordination and collection, enabling GreedyBear hackers 'to streamline operations.' Ethereum Foundation Pledges to Match $500K for Roman Storm's Legal Defense Dardikman saidthat a single IP address 'means tight centralized control' rather than a distributed network. 'This suggests organized cybercrime rather than state sponsorship–government operations typically use distributed infrastructure to avoid single points of failure,' he added. 'Likely Russian criminal groups operating for profit, not state direction.' Dardikman said that GreedyBear is likely to continue its operations and offered several tips for avoiding their expanding reach. 'Only install extensions from verified developers with long histories,' he said, adding that users should always avoid pirated software sites. He also recommended using only official wallet software, and not browser extensions, although he advised moving away from software wallets if you're a serious long-term investor. He said, 'Use hardware wallets for significant crypto holdings, but only buy from official manufacturer websites–GreedyBear creates fake hardware wallet sites to steal payment info and credentials.' Fed Gov. Bowman wants three interest rate cuts in 2025
Aug. 9 (UPI) -- The Federal Reserve has not approved an interest rate cut since before the Nov. 5 election, but one of its governors said she wants three rate cuts this year. Federal Reserve Gov. Michelle "Miki" Bowman dissented from the Federal Open Market Committee's decision last week to maintain the current Fed rate of between 4.25% and 4.5%, she said on Saturday. She said "signs of fragility in labor market conditions" caused her to support gradually lowering the Federal Reserve's interest rate with three successive reductions, starting in July. "Economic conditions appeared to be shifting," Bowman said. "As a result, we should reflect this shift in our policy decisions." Bowman said, "Inflation has moved considerably closer to our target, after excluding temporary effects of tariffs, and the labor market has remained near full employment." "With economic growth slowing this year and signs of a less dynamic labor market becoming clear," Bowman explained, "I see it as appropriate to begin gradually moving our moderately restrictive policy stance toward a neutral setting." "Taking action at last week's meeting would have proactively hedged against the risk of a further erosion in labor market conditions and a further weakening in economic activity," she added. Bowman said the nation's economy "has been resilient" this year, but consumer spending has eased, while "residential investment" has declined. "Consumer spending on both goods and services has risen only modestly, reflecting slow gains in disposable personal income, lower levels of liquid savings and high credit card utilization," Bowman continued. She cited weakened housing demand that has reached a level that hasn't been seen since the Great Recession. "Housing activity has declined, including in single-family home construction and sales, as listings of homes for sale are growing and house prices are falling," Bowman explained. The nation's employment-to-population ratio also has declined significantly so far this year, which she said suggests labor market conditions are softening. "Payroll employment growth slowed sharply to only 35,000 jobs per month over the three months ending in July," Bowman said. "This is well below the moderate pace seen earlier in the year, likely due to a significant softening in labor demand," she added. Bowman also said President Donald Trump's tariff policies will not "present a persistent shock to inflation" because price-stability risks have eased. Bowman made her comments while addressing the Kansas Bankers Association's 2025 CEO & Senior Management Summit in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Saturday. She is one of seven Federal Reserve governors who serve 14-year terms after being nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate. Bowman and Federal Reserve Gov. Christopher Waller both dissented when the Federal Reserve voted to maintain the current interest rates in July. It was the first time in more than three decades that two Federal Reserve governors dissented from the majority decision, according to MarketWatch. Trump appointed Bowman and Waller to the Federal Reserve in 2018 and 2020, respectively. Copyright 2025 UPI News Corporation. All Rights Reserved.
