A consultation has been published by Cleland Community Council asking locals for their opinions on a proposed new play area in Parkside.

Options include a new bike track of Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).

In a statement on their Facebook page, Cleland Community Council said: 'We are working closely with North Lanarkshire Council's Community Partnership Team to develop a new proposal for a possible facility for children and young people in Parkside.
'We want to hear from you on your preference of which of these two possible facilities children and young people would want to see and would use more regularly.
'We are working to access funding through the council's Local Development Programme fund to hopefully secure the budget to create a proposal plan leading to this project.'
There are also in-person consultations to be held. These will be on Tuesday, June 17, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in Cleland Community Centre and on Wednesday, June 18, from 10am to 11.30am in Cleland Library.
The issue of better play equipment for Parkside kids has been an issue for residents for several years.

Back in 2022, over 700 people signed a petition demanding an upgrade to play facilities.
Speaking at that time, concerned resident Lizann Carroll said: 'We have been promised facilities since even before Covid, but we are hoping the council can look at this again and bring the proposals forward.

'The kids have got nothing up here and that's just not good enough.'
Progressive Change Murdostoun councillor Cameron McManus is encouraging locals to complete the survey.
He said: 'This is welcome news as many have been campaigning for better play facilities in Parkside long before Covid.

'It is important people express their views. Whether it's a bike track of a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), people have to have their say.
'The more people that complete the survey then we will have a much better idea of exactly what local people are looking for.'
Labour's Murdostoun councillor Louise Roarty added: 'I'm delighted this consultation has been developed to give the people of Parkside a voice to express what they consider to be the best options for the children and the community.'

You can fill in the online survey by logging onto the Cleland Community Council Facebook page. The survey will close on June 23.

Finance convener calls on Scottish Government to ensure North Lanarkshire benefits from Chancellor's spending review

Councillor Andrew Duffy-Lawson has urged the government at Holyrood to ensure that North Lanarkshire receives its fair share of the recently announced investment in Scottish public services as a result of the announcement from Chancellor Rachel Reeves. North Lanarkshire Council's finance convener has called on the Scottish Government to ensure North Lanarkshire benefits from the Chancellor's spending review. Councillor Andrew Duffy-Lawson has urged the government at Holyrood to ensure that North Lanarkshire receives its fair share of the recently announced investment in Scottish public services as a result of the announcement from Chancellor Rachel Reeves. The Scotland Office said the Scottish Government would receive an extra £9.1bn across the duration of the spending review. And Councillor Duffy-Lawson insists the extra cash presents a vital opportunity to rebuild and strengthen essential local services after years of austerity and underfunding. He said: 'This £9.1 billion investment must reach the communities that need it most. That requires a fair and transparent funding settlement for North Lanarkshire. 'Our schools, social care, transport, housing, and frontline services have been under relentless pressure after two decades of SNP austerity. 'Our workers are stretched to the limit, and our residents deserve better. If this funding doesn't reach our communities, it defeats its purpose.' Councillor Duffy-Lawson added: 'The time for excuses is over. If the Scottish Government is serious about supporting councils, they must pass on this funding in full and without delay. 'North Lanarkshire Labour will not stand by while resources meant for our communities are withheld or diverted elsewhere. We are ready to invest, to deliver and to rebuild but we need the funding to do so.' The Chancellor's spending review confirmed funding for a number of specific projects in Scotland, some of which had been trailed ahead of her speech. They include development funding for the Acorn Project carbon capture scheme in Aberdeenshire, though the exact amount was not revealed. A supercomputer project at Edinburgh University will get £750m and £250m has been allocated to develop facilities at the Faslane nuclear submarine base. Increased funding for the NHS and housing in the rest of the UK will also have a knock-on effect on the money the Scottish Government receives annually from Westminster, which is calculated using the Barnett Formula. However, Scotland's Finance Secretary said there should have been a bigger increase in day-to-day funding. Shona Robison said: 'Today's settlement for Scotland is particularly disappointing, with real terms growth of 0.8 per cent a year for our overall block grant, which is lower than the average for UK departments. 'Had our resource funding for day-to-day priorities grown in line with the UK government's overall spending, we would have £1.1bn more to spend on our priorities over the next three years. 'In effect, Scotland has been short-changed by more than a billion pounds.' *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Sign up to our newsletters here. Violence erupts for third night in UK town as rioters set leisure centre on fire Homes have been evacuated and a leisure centre housing migrants has been set alight A third night of civil unrest has unfolded in Ballymena, NI (Image: Getty Images ) A third night of violence has ensued in a UK town in what has been described as "anti-immigration riots." Videos circulating online show a number of projectiles being launched at police in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, including petrol bombs and fireworks in another night of rioting which has seen violence, arrests and a number of people injured. The riots began on Monday after two teenage boys appeared in court accused of attempted rape. They had confirmed their names and ages through a Romanian interpreter and denied the charges against them. ‌ By Monday afternoon, a social media post advertising a planned protest at 7.30pm that evening had been widely circulated and despite it being planned as peaceful, violent attacks were launched on places known to house migrants. ‌ Since then there have been three nights of violence and vandalism with people reportedly afraid to leave their homes, multiple arrests and dozens of police officers injured. On Wednesday masked youths attacked Larne Leisure Centre by smashing windows and setting fires. They are believed to have targeted the building after social media posts had suggested that those moved out of Ballymena homes were being housed there. Article continues below It is understood that there was no one inside the Leisure Centre during the attack. Emergency services created blockades with vehicles and a water cannon was also used in an effort to disperse the crowds that gathered close to Clonavon Terrace. Police used water jets to disperse the crowds (Image: Getty Images ) DUP politician Gordon Lyons posted a message to Facebook on Wednesday: "A number of individuals were temporarily moved to Larne Lesiure Centre... following disturbances in Ballymena. ‌ "It has now been confirmed to us by the PSNI and Council that all these individuals are in the care of the Housing Executive and have been moved out of Larne. "Protesting is of course a legitimate right but violence is not and I would encourage everyone to remain peaceful." The Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has condemned the 'mindless attacks which has been described by senior police officers as "racist thuggery." Article continues below Some Ballymena residents have put British and Irish flags in their windows so that their homes are not targeted. Many locals have said they are too afraid to leave their homes.
