Spurs said: 'We can confirm that James Maddison will undergo surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee … His surgery will take place in the coming days and, following that, James will then begin his rehabilitation with our medical team. Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur wishes James a full and speedy recovery. We will be supporting him every step of the way.'
Maddison collapsed in pain with no one around him against Newcastle and left the pitch on a stretcher in the 86th minute. The 28-year-old missed the end of last season with a knee injury but returned last month to feature under the new head coach, Thomas Frank.

Bengals S Geno Stone week-to-week after exiting preseason opener
August 9 - Cincinnati Bengals starting safety Geno Stone is week-to-week as he deals with a soft tissue issue, head coach Zac Taylor announced on Saturday. Stone appeared to injure his hamstring on his third play of Cincinnati's eventual 34-27 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in a preseason game. He stayed in the game for one more snap before calling it a night. Tycen Anderson and Daijahn Anthony serve as the backup safeties behind starters Jordan Battle and Stone for the Bengals, who open the regular season at the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 7. Stone, 26, recorded a career-high 81 tackles to go along with four interceptions while starting all 17 games last season. He has totaled 208 tackles and 12 picks in 68 career games (36 starts) with the Baltimore Ravens (2020-23) and Bengals. He was selected by the Ravens in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. --Field Level Media

A's place RHP Luis Severino (oblique) on 15-day IL
August 9 - The Athletics placed right-hander Luis Severino on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain. The move is retroactive to Wednesday. Signed to a three-year, $67 million contract, Severino (6-11, 4.82 ERA) was in the midst of overcoming a disastrous start to the season by winning each of his last four starts. Severino, 31, is one season removed from posting an 11-7 record with a 3.91 ERA in 31 starts with the New York Mets. A two-time All-Star with the New York Yankees (2017, 2018), Severino is 71-55 with a 3.94 ERA in 196 games (180 starts) with the Yankees (2015-19, 2021-23), Mets (2024) and Athletics. Also on Saturday, the Athletics recalled left-hander Hogan Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas. Harris, 28, is 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA in 30 relief appearances with the Athletics this season. --Field Level Media

Vikings WR/PR Rondale Moore carted off field with lower body injury
August 10 - The Minnesota Vikings' Rondale Moore, attempting to return to action after missing all of last season with a knee injury, exited the team's preseason opener on Saturday with an apparent lower left leg injury during a second-quarter punt return against the Houston Texans. With Minnesota trailing 7-6, Moore returned a punt 2 yards before Houston linebacker Jamal Hill tackled him along the sideline. Moore stayed on the ground and was carted off the field. This came nearly a year to the day after Moore, then with Atlanta, was carted off the practice field after suffering a right knee injury that required surgery and forced the wideout to miss the entire season. A fifth-year pro out of Purdue, Moore looked to revive his career with Minnesota following a three-year stint with Arizona. In 39 career games (23 starts), all with the Cardinals, Moore has recorded 135 catches for 1,201 yards and three touchdowns. The Vikings' unofficial depth chart listed Moore as a backup receiver and the starting punt returner heading into Saturday's game. --Field Level Media
