Emiliano Martinez responds to Man Utd transfer approach
Manchester United have begun talks to sign Emiliano Martinez and the Aston Villa goalkeeper has indicated that he is keen on a move to Old Trafford, according to reports in Argentina. United are believed to be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window after Andre Onana made several high-profile errors this season. Onana, who United signed in a £47 million deal from Inter two years ago, has also refused to rule out the possibility of leaving Old Trafford during an interview in Burkina Faso on Thursday. When asked if he will be staying at United, Onana replied with a smile: 'Will I leave? I don't know, we will see.' Martinez, meanwhile, has just finished his fifth season with Villa after he joined in a £20m deal from Arsenal in September 2020. The World Cup winner appeared to wave farewell to supporters in his final game at Villa Park last month and had tears in his eyes during his lap around the pitch with his teammates. Martinez has already received interest from the Saudi Pro League, however, it's understood that the 32-year-old wants to remain in Europe. According to ESPN Argentina, United have now opened talks with Martinez and the goalkeeper is open to joining Ruben Amorim's side this summer. Speaking to ESPN Argentina, journalist Leo Paradizo said: 'Talks have already begun, contacts so that Martinez can join Manchester United. 'Of all the possibilities that he has in his immediate future, Manchester United is the one that excites him the most. More Trending 'The clubs are going to take their time, but yes, I can confirm that the contact between Manchester United and Martinez have already started.' Elsewhere, Viktor Gyokeres has turned down a move to United with the Sporting CP striker privately making it clear that Arsenal are his first-choice destination. Arsenal's sporting director, Andrea Berta, met with his Sporting counterpartto discuss a deal this week but an initial approach worth an €55m (£46.8m) plus a further €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons was turned down by the Portuguese club. United, who were also rejected by Liam Delap earlier this month, could now follow up their initial interest in Napoli's Victor Osimhen or Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. Arsenal rebuild becomes clearer after Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko updates
Arsenal may have a free run at landing Viktor Gyokeres after the striker told Manchester United he will not be joining them this summer - but Bayern Munich are now in the race for Benjamin Sesko's signature. The Gunners are in the market for a new No.9 and Gyokeres and Sesko are their top targets. Both are expected to leave their respective clubs in the summer transfer window after fine seasons and would likely be similar in terms of price. And after weeks of waiting to learn which striker Arsenal would go for, we seem to be getting closer to our answer. United's admiration for Gyokeres is well documented and the Red Devils even appointed his Sporting Lisbon boss, Ruben Amorim, as their manager earlier in the season. But Portuguese outlet Record has now claimed that Gyokeres' representatives have informed United that the 27-year-old will NOT be moving to Old Trafford. With United seemingly out of the frame for Gyokeres, Arsenal could proceed unchallenged. The report went on to add that the north London outfit were even 'preparing a second offer' for the Sweden star. The same cannot be said for Sesko, who was heavily linked with the Gunners last summer before signing a new contract with RB Leipzig. Bayern Munich are said to view Sesko, 22, as the ideal long-term successor to Harry Kane and could rival Arsenal for the striker's signature in the coming weeks. Join the debate! Which striker do you think Arsenal should sign this summer? Let us know here Bild have revealed that Bayern also tried to sign Sesko last summer and, like Arsenal, have not fully given up their pursuit of the Slovenia international, even if they have not held talks over a move like the Londoners. With Gyokeres wanting a move to The Emirates - and competition emerging for Sesko - a deal for the former Coventry City man could now look even more appealing for Arsenal. Although the summer transfer window doesn't officially reopen until Monday, the Gunners have already been busy at work behind the scenes with a move for Martin Zubimendi, the Real Sociedad playmaker, at an advanced stage pending the completion of a medical. The Spain international was also close to a Premier League move last summer, only to U-turn on a move to Liverpool at the eleventh hour. Kepa Arrizabalaga is also on Arsenal's radar in their search for a No.2 goalkeeper and is available for just £5million after spending last season on loan with Bournemouth. Grinning Littler and Humphries had walked out to Vindaloo, sparking a chorus of boos from the German crowd. The golden boys spurned FIVE darts to take a 3-2 lead but the German pair Ricardo Pietreczko and Martin Schindler took out 286 in six darts to go in front. England's pair never seemed to recover from that setback. The Germans were roared on by the home crowd and ripped the Three Lions pair apart to hit five legs on the bounce to open up a 7-2 lead - and just one away from glory.
