Ex-NBA player Ben McLemore sentenced to over 8 years in prison for rape
The ex-Portland Trail Blazer was sentenced to 100 months in prison by Clackamas County Circuit Court Judge Michael Wetzel, Portland TV station KGW reported. The jury last week found the 32-year-old guilty of rape, unlawful sexual penetration and one count of sexual abuse. He was found not guilty on another count of sexual abuse.
The charges involved a 21-year-old woman and stemmed from a party at a home owned by then-teammate Robert Covington in the Portland suburb of Lake Oswego.
During the trial, Clackamas County prosecutors described the sexual encounter as rape. The defense argued it was consensual sex.
The woman testified that she was incapacitated due to alcohol, and was unable to consent, KGW reported. McLemore said he had also been drinking but testified that it was consensual.
McLemore, who played college at Kansas, was the seventh pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings. He also played for Memphis, Houston and the Los Angeles Lakers before his last NBA season with Portland in 2021-2022.
Since then, he has played professionally overseas in Europe, China and Turkey.

The department said the suspects used a stolen Toyota Tacoma in the incident, which was recovered shortly afterward. The agency said it was investigating the case and did not have additional information. The labubu, a toy created by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung, have become a popular collectible item a decade after the toothy monsters were first introduced. Toy vendor One Stop Shop said in an Instagram post that the thieves 'took all of our inventory trashed our store.' The store posted surveillance footage showing a group of people wearing hoodies and face coverings breaking in. The suspects are seen shuffling through items and carrying boxes out of the shop. Following the verdict Kadjilembay Francis, Masra's lawyer, told reporters: 'He has just been subjected to ignominy and unworthy humiliation.' He said he will appeal the sentence. Masra and 67 co-defendants, mostly people from the same Ngambaye ethnic group, have been on trial accused of causing a clash between herders and farmers in May in Logone Occidental in the southwest of the central African country. The fighting left 35 people dead and six others injured. He has denied the charges against him. Masra, who was prime minister between January and May last year, is the head of the Les Transformateurs party and has been a sharp critic of Mahamat Déby, Chad's current president. Déby took power in 2021 after his father Idriss Déby Itno was killed while fighting rebels in the country's north. He had ruled the country for 30 years. Déby legitimized his presidency with an election earlier this year, which was opposed by Masra and his party.
