Two dead after Mexican Navy ship crashes into Brooklyn Bridge: What we know so far
A Mexican navy training ship which was visiting New York crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge, killing two people in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Two crew members aboard the Cuauhtémoc sailing ship died when the boat – heading backwards towards the bridge – continued to travel to a point of impact.
Its 45-metre masts were too tall to clear the arched bridge at that point and toppled when the vessel travelled underneath the iconic US landmark. Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum said she was 'deeply saddened' by the loss of two crew members aboard the training ship.
Of the total of 277 on board the vessel there were 19 with injuries, two of whom remain in critical condition in hospital. Naval cadets clad in white uniforms could be seen dangling from the ship's crossbeams following the accident.

Built at the Celaya Shipyards in Bilbao, Spain back in 1981, Cuauhtémoc's visit to New York was scheduled to end on Saturday evening.
The South Street Seaport Museum was co-hosting the vessel's visit to the Big Apple.
During its stopover in New York, the public were invited to come on board the ship.
It was disembarking from New York and bound for Iceland when the accident occurred.

‘Highest ever' €2k payment for 138k Irish TODAY in ‘vital role' boost after 25-year €1,746 increase & full list revealed

"Something where football clubs can find these players and players have got a platform to present themselves in front of these football clubs.' That's exactly what he did, launching Skouted after hanging up his boots at non-league Ebbsfleet in 2017 and turning his attention to helping the next generation of talent. The app allows young players to upload clips of themselves playing, with top clubs then browsing through the videos to see if there's any potential there. Advertisement While Brandy has also begun to organise showcase games where young stars train together and are invited to play in academy competitions in front of top-level scouts - including the likes of Everyone wants to sign a Messi or a Ronaldo, but the reality is that they're rare gems. Febian Brandy In fact, a recent entry into the SuperCup, formerly known as the Milk Cup, saw his side of hungry prospects grind out a 2-2 draw with Manchester United U16s with just four weeks of training - resulting in eight players being invited to trials at top clubs. It was that same competition that Brandy had played in as a teenager, winning player of the tournament over the likes of Brandy doesn't know exactly how many players he has helped get an opportunity, but estimated that Skouted has helped in excess of 300 club-less players earn professional trials across the globe.
