Gujarati actor enjoys ‘khaman' on Surat airport floor before boarding Bangkok flight, netizens react: ‘Not your home'

A video of Gujarati actor Hitesh Thakkar from Surat airport has gone viral on social media, sparking debate among netizens. The actor identified in the video was eating khaman on the airport floor with his friends, steps away from the boarding gate.
In the video, newspapers were spread on the floor as the actor and his friends enjoyed khaman together. The actor was on his way to Pattaya, Thailand.
Hitesh said in Gujarati, 'We don't see the place when it comes to eating. This is Surat Airport, and my friends got delicious khaman. We are sitting on the floor and eating before boarding our flight to Pattaya, Thailand,'
Sharing the video, a user wrote on X, formerly Twitter, 'Proud of this Indian uncle who upheld his traditional diet and eating style in the airport gate before boarding a flight to Bangkok. Be proud of your roots.'
Soon after the video was posted, many identified the man as the Gujarati actor. The video quickly gained attention, leaving netizens divided about his behaviour. While some praised the actor for embracing his roots, some slammed him for his behaviour at the airport.
Among them, a user wrote in the comments, 'I also proud of my eating habits and will encourage to do it. But, No this uncle is not doing good, it is this kind of encouragement which helps people us make bad. Do this at your home or at right place. Boarding gate is not your home and not a restaurant (sic).'
'The reason why Indian Passport ranking has dropped to 85,' added another.
One more user commented, 'It's absolutely unhealthy to eat food (or even store food) directly from newsprint. That ink isn't very stable, and mixes with the food. All the best. Anyway, there is nothing traditional about eating out of newspapers. Newspapers are just about 400 years old, that too from Europe, and as any Sanatani will remind you, our traditions are 4000 years old.'
Someone also said, 'Indianness of indians is biggest problem of very few Indians who travel with too much respect.! These uncles and aunties just make it harder for good people to stay respectfully.'

Mohammed Siraj, son of auto driver, gets emotional about father's profession; actress reacts

Netizens react About Siraj's upcoming series As the Indian cricket team lands in England for the high-stakes five-match Test series, all eyes are on the beginning of a new era—one without legends like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in whites. Amid intense preparations for the upcoming WTC cycle , fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has turned the spotlight onto something far more personal—and a deeply emotional Instagram post, Siraj reflected on his journey from the narrow lanes of Hyderabad to the grandeur of Lord's, crediting his late father, an auto-rickshaw driver, for the values that shaped him. The cricketer reflected on his journey from being the son of an auto-rickshaw driver to representing India on the world stage. Grateful for every opportunity, he shared how his background, once mocked during his low moments, is actually his greatest strength. His father's relentless hard work taught him the value of persistence and humility. Siraj recalled long walks home after practice, the hunger that shaped him, and how criticism often reduces his story to a stereotype. He questioned why it's so hard for people to see themselves in others, stressing that everyone is striving for a better life, regardless of where they come from. His message was clear: success doesn't ask about your background; it only sees your post quickly went viral, garnering thousands of reactions from fans and public figures alike. Among them was actress Zainai Bhosle—Siraj's close friend, singer, and Asha Bhosle's granddaughter—who expressed admiration for his flooded social media with support. Many from Hyderabad said they felt represented every time he stepped onto the pitch. Others praised him for showing that success is not defined by background but by determination and India prepares to face England in iconic venues like Lord's, Edgbaston, and Old Trafford from June to August 2025, Siraj will play a key role in India's pace attack. Former bowling coach Bharat Arun recently lauded his adaptability and control, saying Siraj's ability to read conditions and use angles will be critical, especially with the Dukes ball in swinging English conditions.

Mom's passing is a void that nothing can ever fill: Niilam Paanchal

Niilam Paanchal with her mom Vasantiben Panchal Niilam Paanchal, who lost her mom Vasantiben Panchal in March, has resumed working. The actress, currently seen in the Hindi TV show Saru , shares, 'Her death is a void that nothing can fill. I miss mom every day.' 'I think I got my new show due to mom's blessings' Recalling the day when she got a call to audition for Saru, Niilam, who lives in Mumbai, shares, 'My mom was in hospital and I was with her 24*7. So, I was not keen to audition for the project, but my mother told me, 'You must do it, you will get this show.' I had to go for a mock shoot in Naigaon and when I returned, mom's condition had deteriorated. The day we lost her, I got a call confirming that I had been selected. I was not in a state to process that information. ' Niilam adds, 'I started shooting for the show barely a week after my mom's death, and it was a very difficult time for me. But my co-actors have been supportive and understanding. In a way, it is good that I started working because otherwise, I really don't know what I would have done. The show went on air on mom's birthday. I feel I got it due to her blessings.' 'I am keen to do more Gujarati films ' Before Saru, Niilam was seen in the TV show Dil Ko Tumse Pyaar Hua, which went off air in February. She shares, 'Be it Ishqbaaaz , Hamari Devrani , Lajwanti or other shows, I have always played negative roles on TV. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thousands Are Saving Money Using This Wall Plug elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Click Here Undo In Saru, I am playing a positive character on the small screen for the first time and it's a great feeling.' In D-Town, she was last seen in the film Nasoor (2024). In an earlier interview, the Hellaro, 21mu Tiffin and Vash actress had told us, 'I was being offered mother's roles but don't want to play moms to 40-year-olds on screen.' Asked about her plans of making a D-Town comeback, she says, 'I am very keen to do more Gujarati films. It's refreshing to see that age-appropriate roles are being written now for women in Gujarati films too. In my TV show contract, it is mentioned that I will take a break and shoot for Gujarati films if I get one. But surprisingly, while I used to be offered a lot of Gujarati films earlier, I have not been offered any in recent times. My husband (Mihir Rajda) is a terrific actor and I am glad he made a successful debut in Gujarati films with Mithada Maheman . I hope we get to see more of him in Gujarati films.' 'I start crying whenever I remember mom during little moments' Talking about her mom's contribution in her journey, Niilam says, 'I lost my dad when I was just four-and-a-half years old. We are four sisters and mom struggled a lot to bring us up so beautifully. Our financial condition wasn't great, and she had to sell her jewellery. Woh silaai ka bhi kaam karti thi. Back then, a lot of people would say that there was no need to send girls to college, but mom made sure that I completed my graduation. When I started getting acting offers and shifted to Mumbai in 2008, I told her that I wanted to pursue it and she supported me. I had promised her that I would make her proud and when I won the National Award for Hellaro, it was a huge win for both of us. I could fulfil my dreams only because of her.' She adds, 'During her last moments, mom told me, 'Mere jaane ke baad tum logon ka kya hoga? Mann laga ke kaam karna, aur tumhari beti ko khoob padhana.' I still start crying when I remember her during little moments, and there are times I can't sleep at night. However, the show must go on. I hope I continue to do good work so that up there, she can be proud of me.'

Sant Kabirdas Jayanti 2025: Date, history, significance, his famous couplets—all you need to know

Sant Kabirdas Jayanti 2025: Kabir Jayanti, also known as Kabir Prakat Diwas, commemorates the birth anniversary of Sant Kabir Das, an influential 15th-century Indian mystic poet, saint, and social reformer, and was known for his proclivity for spirituality and critical thinking about religion. Kabirdas' writings, known as 'bhajans' and 'dohas', advocated for social equality, religious harmony, and spirituality and were known to have influenced the Bhakti movement in India. His work includes Bijak, Sakhi Granth, Kabir Granthavali, and Anurag Sagar; a large amount of Kabir's works were compiled by the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev, and placed in the Sikh scripture, Guru Granth Sahib. While the exact details of Kabir's birth remain unclear, he is believed to have lived between 1440 and 1518 on Purnima tithi, which is a full moon day in the Hindu month of Jyeshtha, mainly coinciding with May or June, according to the modern Gregorian calendar. The date changes every year, and this year, it will mark his 648th birth anniversary on June 11, 2025, on a Wednesday, according to Drik Panchang. He was born in the city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, with some stories suggesting he was born to a Brahmin mother but raised by a Muslim weaver, a beautiful illustration of the merging of religious influences in his life. Kabir's two-line couplets, known as 'Kabir Ke Dohe', are quite famous. Here are some of them: 1. Aag Jo Lagi Samand Mein, Dhuan Na Pargat Hoye So Jane Jo Jarmua, Jaki Lagi Hoye Translation The Ocean is on Fire; The Smoke is not Visible. He Knows Who Has Been There and Been Burnt -x- 2. Aisee Vani Boliye, Mun Ka Aapa Khoye Apna Tan Sheetal Kare, Auran Ko Sukh Hoye Translation Speak such words, and you lose the mind's ego. Body Remains Composed, Others Find Peace -x- 3. Bada Hua To Kya Hua, Jaise Ped Khajoor Panthi Ko Chaya Nahin, Phal Laage Atidoor Translation If you are big, so what? Just like a date tree. No shade for travellers; fruit is hard to reach. -x- 4. Bura Jo Dekhan Main Chala, Bura Naa Milya Koye Jo Munn Khoja Apnaa, To Mujhse Bura Naa Koye Translation I went on the search for the bad guy, bad guy, I couldn't find. When I searched my mind, none is nastier than me. -x-
