Carlo Ancelotti says first Brazil match was ‘special' despite goalless draw
Brazil were held to a goalless draw away to Ecuador in Carlo Ancelotti's first match in charge but the Italian still described his international debut as a manager as a 'special' gift.
Clear-cut chances were limited during a lacklustre 90 minutes at Estadio Monumental with Brazil only able to manage two shots on target.
Ancelotti included a number of Premier League players in his first line-up with Alisson Becker, Bruno Guimaraes, Casemiro and Richarlison handed starts, but the 0-0 draw keeps Brazil in fourth spot in the South America World Cup qualification standings.
The veteran coach, who started his managerial career in 1995, told CBF.com: 'My first match in charge of a national team, my heart felt something special.
'I was on the bench for more than 1,800 matches and this one was special. I think I can make an assessment of this first period; I was happy with the reception. I feel delighted to work with the CBF and, for me, it is a gift to be here.'
The former Real Madrid boss, who has won five Champions League titles, acknowledged Brazil could improve with the ball ahead of his home debut with Paraguay in Sao Paulo on Tuesday, with Barcelona attacker Raphinha set to return after suspension.
'It was a very good match defensively,' Ancelotti reflected.
'I saw the team playing better with the ball, with a slightly more fluid game. It was a good draw and we left satisfied, with confidence for the next game.
'We have very good quality players. There is not much time to work, but there is the possibility of improvement because we have quality.
'I am sure that we will improve in attack. Today we were missing an important player (in) Raphinha.
'We have to play a game with more rhythm, mobility and intensity. I believe we will do that at our home ground.'

Tottenham 'axe three of Ange Postecoglou's backroom staff' as they step up search for his successor
Three members of Ange Postecoglou 's backroom staff are set to follow him out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer. Spurs confirmed on Friday afternoon that Postecoglou would not be returning for a third season, with the 59-year-old sacked just 16 days after overseeing a famous victory against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final. But it was not enough to save Postecoglou, who also oversaw a 17th place finish in the Premier League — the club's lowest ever. Postecoglou's departure was communicated by the club via a 368-word statement. That statement did not mention whether or not any other staff members were also leaving. But according to The Telegraph, Spurs chiefs have decided to axe Postecoglou's assistant coaches Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo. Meanwhile, Ryan Mason — who also worked as an assistant coach under Postecoglou — left Spurs earlier in the week to take the vacant manager's job at West Bromwich Albion. Senior coach Matt Wells and goalkeeping coach Rob Burch are said to have remained with Spurs for now, although that could change after Postecoglou's replacement is announced. That replacement is likely to be current Brentford boss Thomas Frank but he is not the only man in the frame. Brentford do not want to lose Frank and will demand significant compensation, believed to be in the region of £10million, if he leaves for Spurs. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is expected to step up his search for a new manager in the coming days, with Marco Silva and Scott Parker also in the frame.

France boss threatens to drop Premier League target amid £25m transfer talks
France face Germany in the Nations League third-place play-off on Sunday, with boss Didier Deschamps ready to take drastic action as Chelsea pursue one of his key players France head coach Didier Deschamps has threatened to drop Mike Maignan from his team for Sunday's Nations League game against Germany. Les Bleus will face the hosts in a third-place play-off. They lost a thrilling semi-final 5-4 to Spain on Thursday night, with Maignan starting between the sticks. He has emerged as France's first-choice keeper since Hugo Lloris retired after the 2022 World Cup. Thursday's defeat to Spain was a frustrating one, with France at one stage losing 4-0 before a late comeback. The loss raised the pressure on Deschamps after a difficult Euro 2024 campaign, and the boss has admitted that changes are coming for Sunday. "I won't hide from you that the interest is still relative. This match is there, we're going to play it... It's Germany. It will be useful, but taking into account the very specific situation," he added. "Is the match at stake minimal? You said so. Some players aren't in the best shape. Thomas Frank responds to Tottenham approach after Ange Postecoglou sacking
Brentford manager Thomas Frank is interested in replacing Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, according to reports. Spurs finally confirmed Postecoglou's sacking on Friday evening in a statement which claimed that they could not keep the 59-year-old in place because of the 'emotions' of winning the Europa League. Postecoglou guided Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years last month with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao. However, Postecoglou ultimately lost his job due to his side's woeful Premier League campaign in which they finished 17th in the table with 22 defeats. Tottenham are now in talks to secure Postecoglou's replacement ahead of their pre-season campaign and an approach has been made to Frank. According to The Telegraph, Frank is interested in becoming Tottenham's next manager and the Brentford boss is regarded as 'the leading candidate'. The report adds that Frank still has a positive relationship with Spurs' sporting director, Johan Lange, following their time together at Danish side Lyngby. Postecoglou, who earned a £2 million bonus for winning the Europa League and was given a £4m compensation package by Tottenham, is also said to have received immediate interest from clubs following his dismissal. Elsewhere, Portuguese newspaper Record reported on Friday night that Fulham manager, Marco Silva, is 'very close' to reaching an agreement with Spurs.
