Maggie Warpus wins Winter Season MVP
CHENANGO FORKS, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – As we all know, Section IV, from East to West is scattered with high school talent, across all sports. When it comes to winter sports, one that's just as eye-catching as the next to watch in the area is basketball, and one local girl's basketball player won your vote for Winter Season MVP.
Maggie Warpus is a junior for the Chenango Forks Blue Devils wearing number 5. Across these past few years, she has stuck out with her talents on the court, and she caught the eye of many in winning MVP. She's a 1,000-point scorer that happened this past season, and she helped the team improve on their run at states from last season when they fell in regionals, this time making it all the way to the final four.
'Our whole community is very involved in our sports teams, especially now that our basketball team is so successful,' said Warpus.
She still has a year left to go on varsity, and so does most of the team, as they only graduate one in Lauren Paske. With the team being as young as they are, and the support that comes from the community each time they compete, whether it be regular season or playoffs, win or loss, it allowed the team to grow together, with Warpus leading the charge as they continue to push forward even further toward a state championship.
'I'm hoping to commit before next season so then that would be a weight lifted off my shoulders and it'll also make me confident going into the high school season.'
A big congratulations to Maggie on getting the people's recognition and being voted Winter Season MVP after an incredible run. 1,000 points and a run to final four is no easy task, and we can expect more from her and the team as we move forward into next season.

Analyst Predicts Breakout From Bills' 2nd-Year Receiver
Analyst Predicts Breakout From Bills' 2nd-Year Receiver originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Scouts were split when the Buffalo Bills drafted Keon Coleman in the second round of the 2024 draft. Some believed that Coleman's size and speed was a deadly combination for the Bills and quarterback Josh Allen. Others had concerns about his consistency as a receiver, and injury problems in college. Advertisement After one season in the league, it seems that each side of the aisle has a point when it comes to the 22-year-old. Coleman missed four games during the season due to a wrist injury, and only caught 29 passes. Despite the low catch total, he averaged over 19 yards per reception - an outrageous mark and one of the highest in football last season. Heading into Year 2 of his NFL journey, one particular analyst believes that a breakout is coming for a fully healthy and energized Coleman. Pro Football Sports Network's Jacob Infante believes second-year wideout Keon Coleman is the breakout player to watch in Buffalo. Advertisement "Amidst a loaded 2024 wide receiver draft class, Keon Coleman had a pretty low volume with just 29 catches," Infante said. "But he made the most of his targets, finishing third in the NFL with 19.2 yards per catch and scoring four touchdowns. 'The Buffalo Bills signed Josh Palmer and Elijah Moore in free agency, but Coleman projects higher than in 2025. A big-bodied target with tremendous ball skills and physicality, expect him to put up bigger numbers in Year 2.' Allen is a league MVP throwing players like Coleman the football. So long as that continues, the Florida State product should be able to excel in his second year in the offense. Perhaps an improved year from Coleman can get people to stop criticizing Buffalo for gifting the Kansas City Chiefs Xavier Worthy just a few picks before. SGA3K: Gilgeous-Alexander reaches 3,000 points for season, 12th player to do so in NBA history
Fans cheer for Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (2) during the first half of Game 1 of the NBA Finals basketball series against the Indiana Pacers Thursday, June 5, 2025, in Oklahoma City. (AP Photo/Julio Cortez) Updated [hour]:[minute] [AMPM] [timezone], [monthFull] [day], [year] OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The milestones keep coming for Oklahoma City's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. With his first basket of Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night, Gilgeous-Alexander — the NBA's reigning MVP — reached the 3,000-point mark for the season, including playoffs. The milestone came on a 10-footer with 8:24 left in the opening quarter. He needed only two points to get there Sunday, after scoring 38 in Oklahoma City's Game 1 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Thursday. This is the 25th time in NBA history that a player has scored 3,000 points in a season. Michael Jordan did it 10 times, Wilt Chamberlain did it five and 10 other players — Bob McAdoo, Elgin Baylor, James Harden, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Luka Doncic, Rick Barry, Shaquille O'Neal and now Gilgeous-Alexander — have done it once. Gilgeous-Alexander also is the fourth player to score that many points while also handing out at least 600 assists in the same season. Jordan did that three times, while Doncic and Harden have done so once. ___ AP NBA:
