A WOMAN who killed her boyfriend after stabbing him in the heart has been jailed for eight and a half years.
Dionne Christie struck Jevin Haig, 21, in the chest with his own 12-inch hunting knife as they struggled in the bedroom of her flat in Falkirk, Stirlingshire on June 26 2022.

The 24 year-old mum-of-two had been 12-weeks pregnant with Mr Haig's child at the time.
First-offender Christie was today sentenced via video-link at the High Court in Glasgow.
She had earlier stood trial in Stirling accused of murder before being convicted of the reduced charge of culpable homicide.
We told how she shared glamorous selfies during the trial moaning it had been the "hardest years" of her life.
Jurors concluded she had been acting under provocation at the time.
Christie - who ran her own beauty aesthetics business - appeared emotional as the jail-term was imposed by judge Lady Poole.
Jurors at the trial in March heard how Christie had delayed dialling 999 for several minutes after the incident.
She had first gone to ask a neighbour to alert her mum that her "friend" was hurt, but that no ambulance was needed.
Prosecutors had claimed this showed "wicked disregard" as to whether her lover lived or died.
Christie had initially blamed Mr Haig, of Moredun, Edinburgh, during the emergency call.

She told the operator: "He has come in, he has been trying to start with me.
"He has smashed all my house and brought out a knife - a big knife.
"He has a got a stab mark right in his chest."
Christie was asked during the call if Mr Haig had stabbed himself.
She replied: "It is while we have been like...he was grabbing me, he had the knife in his pants. Do not know how I have done this."
Police initially turned up and Christie insisted her boyfriend had injured himself.
But, forensic evidence linked her as being responsible including her DNA and fingerprint being on the knife.
Prosecutor Graeme Jessop KC had stated during the trial that Christie had stabbed Mr Haig in a fit of anger because he no longer had any money as a crime funded lifestyle was drying up.
In texts the day before he died, Mr Haig told Christie he had been 'losing out on deals' and suggested they should stay in because a hotel they had discussed going to was 'dead'.

Christie - who used the name 'Designer' for messaging - replied back:
'You know what is dead? You.'
She denied in evidence this had been an intention to kill and instead said the pair had gone on to chat and joke about a social media posting she had made.
Christie also alleged Mr Haig had been trying to cut their unborn baby from her womb at the time of the attack.
She did not know how he ended up being fatally injured.
However, jurors heard claims the mum had previously been violent to Mr Haig including stabbing him in the leg and slashing his designer jacket.
Ian Duguid KC, defending, today told the court: "As far as remorse and regret, these are both sentiments and emotions expressed by this young lady."
Sentencing, Lady Poole said it appeared Mr Haig had not led a "blameless life", but that "did not excuse" Christie killing him.
The judge: "Messages showed he cared for you and he was happy going for a scan appointment with you.
"It was clear at the trial how upset his family are at his death.
"Victim impact statements describe the deep grief and lasting impact the loss has had on them.
"Your actions ended his life early."

Migrant machete attacker allowed to stay in Britain

A machete attacker jailed for four years has avoided deportation because of European Union rules. Daniel Koopmann, 24, a German citizen, claimed to have arrived in the UK in 2014 and was granted indefinite leave to remain in 2020 before Brexit. However, in July 2020 he slashed his victim across the forearms in a machete attack. Then, after his arrest, he intimidated his victim over Snapchat and Facebook in an attempt to get the case dropped. The Home Office sought to deport him once he was jailed but he successfully appealed to an upper tribunal which ruled his case should be re-heard because a lower court had failed to take sufficient account of immigration rules for EU citizens. Another, lower court will now have to reconsider his case. The case, disclosed in court papers, is the latest example uncovered by The Telegraph in which illegal migrants or convicted foreign criminals have been able to remain in the UK or halt their deportations. Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary, has announced plans to curb judges' powers to block deportations with new legally-enforced 'common sense' rules to clarify how judges interpret human rights laws and strengthen the public interest test. Koopmann was 19 at the time of the attack when he and another unidentified attacker ambushed their victim as he walked outside a primary school in Northampton at night. While the other attacker held the victim from behind, Koopman swung a machete at him once and cut him across both forearms. In the days that followed, Koopman began a campaign of threatening social media posts in a bid to scare his victim into keeping quiet. They included videos of driving past his address with the caption 'talk get stitches'. Another read: 'Cool your snitching I'm back out now – you better drop the case you silly boy.' In sentencing, His Honour Judge Rupert Mayo told Koopman: 'These threats posted on social media get around instantly. These threats are even more sinister when they are shared and seen by hundreds of your contacts. A custodial sentence is inevitable.' 'Genuine, present' threat Koopmann initially appealed his deportation to a lower immigration tribunal which rejected his claim, saying his conduct represented 'a genuine, present and sufficiently serious threat affecting one of the fundamental interests of society.' The judge had stated: 'He has shown a disregard for the law and he still fails to acknowledge his own criminality.' However, an upper tribunal has found the judge erred in law and ordered a fresh hearing. It was claimed the previous judge had failed to conduct an assessment of the proportionality of his expulsion as required by European citizen immigration regulations. Gang member not deported over EU rules It follows a similar case where a migrant gang member convicted of manslaughter after the murder of an 18-year-old could not be deported because of EU rules. William George, 28, a semi-professional footballer, was a member of a gang of 10 men convicted of killing Abdul Hafidah, 18, in front of rush hour commuters in Manchester in May 2016. George, a Belgian who moved to Britain with his parents at the age of eight, was jailed for 12 years for manslaughter for his part in the assault. In 2018 he was served with deportation papers, which said he had a 'real risk' of reoffending. Home Office officials lost a six-year legal battle to remove George from the UK, despite him being associated with Manchester's notorious AO gang. Under Brussels directives, which applied until Brexit, EU nationals who lived in Britain for an extended time could only be deported 'on imperative grounds of public security'.

Moment driver nearly ploughed into group of children caught on camera

A local has hit out over incidents in the area. A Scots driver narrowly missed a group of children as they were crossing the road. The heart-stopping moment, which took place in Edinburgh, was caught on camera. Three children were crossing the road on Arkaig Gardens in the south of the city, as a red car waited for them to pass. But a black vehicle zoomed by, narrowly missing the group. ‌ The last of the trio just made it across the road before the black vehicle passed, with the Sunday, June 1, 2025 incident caught on CCTV, Edinburgh Live reports. ‌ The concerned resident whose children were crossing has said the neighbourhood has rising problems with 'speeding and dangerous driving', with motorists 'using the estate as a cut-through'. They believe it was 'only millimetres from being a fatal accident'. Bogdan Adamczyk said: "We are experiencing daily incidents of speeding, dangerous driving, and antisocial behaviour involving loud, illegal and antisocial exhausts on surrounding roads, especially from delivery drivers and other vehicles using the estate as a cut-through. "Most worryingly, a near-miss involving a child was recently caught on video, only millimetres from what could have been a fatal accident. This is not an isolated case; it reflects the dangerous conditions that parents, children, elderly residents, and pedestrians with prams face every single day. "With a school extension underway, traffic will only increase, making the situation even more dangerous. Speeding vehicles are a constant threat."With a school extension underway, traffic will only increase, making the situation even more dangerous. Boy, 16, killed in 'hit and run' was walking 'to pick up a takeaway'

A 16-year-old schoolboy killed in a suspected hit-and-run in Sheffield was on his way to pick up a takeaway, witnesses have said. Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Al Yazidi, known locally as Abdul, was walking along the pavement on Staniforth Road, in Darnall, when he was hit by a grey Audi on Wednesday afternoon. The car appeared to swerve towards three e-bike riders, crashing into one of them before hitting Abdul. He was taken to hospital but died of his injuries. The 18-year-old e-bike rider sustained serious injuries which are not life-threatening. Shabnam Begum, 34, witnessed the aftermath and arrived to crowds of people filming on their phones and emergency services. 'I crossed over and saw Abdul on the floor. His skin colour was pale and he had dry lips. There was screaming and shouting all around,' she told Metro. 'I went back to my home and grabbed some bedsheets and returned to cover him up. 'It was heartbreaking to witness. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.' Shabnam has lived in the area for around 20 years and said that Abdul worked in what locals call the 'red shop' with his older brother and dad by the Al-Shafeey Centre mosque. 'His dad sent him to pick up a takeaway before it happened,' she added. The mum-of-two lives across the road from where the crash occurred and said Abdul, his dad, older brother and sister moved to Darnall to escape war-torn Yemen six months ago. Abdul's mum later joined the family once they had settled in to their new life in the UK. 'He was a very happy child who would always give it his 100% in the shop because he came from a war-torn country,' she said. 'He was a beautiful young boy. I can never forget his smile every time I visited the shop. 'I would often ask if he was ok in the shop and he would put his little thumb up.' Shabnam said that people in the community are meant to be celebrating Eid but the mood is subdued since Abdul's death. She said that speeding on the main road has been an issue for many years with many drivers going over the 20mph limit. Shabnam says she feels unsafe in the area following the crash because Abdul was hit on the pavement. 'I'm always extra careful looking both ways before I cross the road since the crash. 'It has really impacted people in the local area but what is nice is that the community has come together to remember him.' A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. A 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has now been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. They both remain in police custody. Two people, a man, aged 46, and a woman, aged 45, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have both been bailed pending further enquiries. A tribute to the teen posted on Facebook reads: 'The teenager who was struck by a vehicle in Darnall has been named as 16-year-old Abdullah Yaha Al-Zaidy. 'Abdullah, known locally as Abdul, was a beloved member of the Al-Shafeey Centre mosque. 'May Allah grant him the highest ranks of Jannah and grant his family and friends strength and patience during this unimaginable time. 'It is deeply heartbreaking to see his photo—a boy always smiling, always full of joy. 'He worked tirelessly alongside his father and had plans to begin college soon.' More Trending Senior Investigating Officer in the case, Detective Chief Inspector Benjamin Wood, described it as a 'heartbreaking case' which involved a 'completely innocent boy'. He confirmed a team of detectives are working at pace to piece together the circumstances which unfolded. He added: 'I am renewing our message to not share footage of this incident which may cause further distress to Abdullah's loved ones. They have lost a son and beloved member of the family in the most tragic of circumstances and have requested for their privacy to be respected.' Police have urged people to send through footage, imagery or information that may help in their investigation.
