UK man challenges himself to walk barefoot for a year: ‘It's been really liberating'
Bear Intentions, 34, gave up his shoes and socks back in October and has been going through life barefoot ever since.
The challenge is due to end this October, but to mark its completion, Bear is planning to walk 746 miles from Italy all the way to the UK.
He is taking no footwear at all on the six to eight-week journey – even though he'll be crossing difficult and mountainous terrain.

But the well-being artist has become used to things not being easy over the past year.
He has faced social judgment, been kicked out of supermarkets, and even nearly barred from boarding a flight, he claims.
And, he's suffered from injuries – including trench foot from spending too much time in the rain and tendonitis from straining his muscles.
But Bear is still positive about the challenge, which he says has been 'liberating.'

Bear, from the New Forest in the UK, said: 'The barefoot challenge is part of me challenging myself to live with intention – and particularly to live authentically and stand up for what I believe in.
'It's been really liberating and helped with my confidence – especially as socially it weirds people out and physically it's uncomfortable.
'And it's also helped teach me about how to choose a different path for myself.
'Admittedly, there have been some difficulties – like getting kicked out of supermarkets.
'And in May, I was in the US, and I was trying to fly from LA to New York, and they kicked me off the flight because I didn't have any shoes on.
'I had to talk to loads of people, and explain that I couldn't wear socks or shoes, and eventually they allowed me back on.
'The hardest thing though has been getting over people's looks of disgust. Because that is the main reaction.'
Soon, Bear will be walking from Aosta Valley in northern Italy to London in the UK – as a way to finish off his challenge.
He'll be accompanied by his dog, a four-year-old German Shepherd called Thor.
Bear said: 'I wanted to do something that would mark the end of the year and help me reflect on what I've done.
'I am feeling like the odds are stacked against me though, when it comes to completing it.
'I've had injuries thanks to repetitive strain on a tendon in my foot, and that flared up recently after just a 3-mile walk.

'I'm aiming to walk 15 miles a day – so I'm hoping I can do it.'
Bear will be using his challenge to raise money for two charities: CALM and Medical Detection Dogs, which trains dogs to support people with life-threatening health conditions.
'One charity for me, one charity for Thor,' Bear said.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Bear has tackled a unique year-long challenge.
5 'The hardest thing, though, has been getting over people's looks of disgust. Because that is the main reaction,' the man continued.

From October 2021 to October 2022, he spent an entire year in silence – not speaking once.
In the same period the following year, he wore fancy dress costumes every single day.
And last year, he focused on a year of 'volunteering', where he would ask people how he could help them.
Speaking about his year of silence, Bear said: 'For the first six months, I had to wake up every day and remind myself, 'Don't speak today.'
5 Bear is still positive about the challenge, which he says has been 'liberating.'

'Then, around the halfway point, it just became the norm for me.
'I actually enjoyed not speaking. I found that very peaceful. But the impact it had on being social was really intense on my mental health.'

German Shepherd Dove Headfirst Into Mud Bath Chaos and Has Zero Regrets
German Shepherd Dove Headfirst Into Mud Bath Chaos and Has Zero Regrets originally appeared on Parade Pets. We know, just like people, dogs of the same breed come with a wide variety of personalities. Some consider themselves indoor pups who like to cuddle, sleep, and play with their toys, while others are on the complete opposite end of that. These pooches prefer to be outside, have a lot of energy to burn off, and will always choose the path of most chaos. One treats the outdoors as an open invitation to go wild, and that's what he does. In a hilarious video, while on a walk with his human, he comes across a puddle of mud and has zero hesitation to listen to his inner voice, and it's probably more intense than you think it is. Brace yourself, cause this is hilarious. TikTok user Ivy (@ivycaponi) shared a video that went viral, garnering 35 million views and a comment section that's more than 57k deep, and it's incredibly funny. We know that this sweet dog named Whiskey comes across a puddle of mud, but when I said you'd have to brace yourself for how muddy he makes himself, I meant it. This silly pup doesn't hesitate for even a millisecond to launch himself right into the puddle, which is deeper than it looks. Whiskey doesn't care. He's now covered, as in every single strand of fur and inch of his body is now mud. He's rolling, basically swimming, and looks like he is having the absolute best time of his life. The video ends with him still in the mud, looking unrecognizable because he's now just a blob of concrete-colored mud. But the sweet German Shepherd looks the comments, people had a lot to say about Whiskey's extreme love of mud and how into the rolls he seemed to be. One wrote, "It's funny but only cause he's not mine." Another joked, "God forbid a dog just wants to experience the benefits of a mud bath." Someone else added, "I mean, at least he's passionate about skin and hair care." Others shared, "Missed a spot," "He's having the best day ever," "Spa day, enjoy the process," Some people pay large amounts of money for a mud bath," "That dog is having the time of his life," "I'm such a cat person," and "Tearing up because I feel like we're witnessing the literal best moment of his whole life." I have no idea how a sweet parent is supposed to get all this mud off him when they're done their walk. But it will probably start with a hose wash-off outside, along with a prayer that Whiskey doesn't shake his fur too much and spray the dirt all over the place. Can't deny that this is one happy pup, though, and we love a pooch and dog parent who just go for it! 🐶SIGN UP to get 'pawsitivity' delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾 German Shepherd Dove Headfirst Into Mud Bath Chaos and Has Zero Regrets first appeared on Parade Pets on Jul 19, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade Pets on Jul 19, 2025, where it first appeared. ‘Seedy' sex festival sparks noise complaints as 1000 swingers descend on sleepy town for 3-day event: ‘Loud moaning sounds'
Come one, come all. Kinky revellers have descended on a sleepy English village for the country's biggest annual swingers festival, sparking noise complaints from conservative locals outraged by ear-splitting orgasms. Swingathon is taking place this weekend in the town of Allington, two hours north of London, and has attracted around 1000 amorous attendees. That's more than the number of residents who live in the quaint village, which has a listed population of just 897. 4 Preparations for the three-day festival of frisk have been ongoing for weeks. Tom Maddick / SWNS 4 The pastoral surrounds of the quaint village are pictured. The three-day festival of frisk play tents, pole dancing, foam parties, mobile dungeons and sex games like butt-plug bingo. Tom Maddick / SWNS The three-day festival of frisk play tents, pole dancing, foam parties, mobile dungeons and sex games like butt-plug bingo. The annual festival first began back in 2020, and is becoming bigger each year, much to the chagrin of locals. 'We're becoming known as the swingers capital of England just because of this festival and that's not a title we want,' one anonymous resident told Southwest News Service. 'It's mostly elderly people and families here so you can imagine them spitting their tea out when they learned we were to be the home of Swingathon.' 'It's usually the talk of the village. Some say let consenting adults do whatever they want to do, but I know many are not pleased they have chosen here for such activities,' they added. 'It's just a bit seedy and sleazy isn't it? Not for me I'm afraid.' In recent years, residents have publicly complained about an onslaught of 'loud moaning sounds' coming from the site. 4 Aerial view of two lounge chairs and the word 'KINK' written on the grass at the event. Tom Maddick / SWNS 4 Swingathon's Matthew Cole defended the adults-only event. Tom Maddick / SWNS However, the organizer of the summertime sex festival insists there's nothing dirty about the event. 'Contrary to some beliefs, there are no keys in bowls, seedy music, lecherous individuals or a high level of STIs amongst this community,' Swingathon's Matthew Cole claimed. 'In fact, individuals within this community are respectful, conscientious, and more likely to practise safe sex or be regularly tested than the average person you might meet on a night out in a club,' the organizer added. 'The team are passionate about normalizing the sexual freedom that alternative lifestyles provide and continue to strive against prejudice and adversity to bring the community a safe and inclusive social, play and learning space.' Tickets for the frisky festival go for around $250 USD, with live music, DJs, workshops and demonstrations that are advertised as being set in a 'safe, inclusive space' that 'celebrates diversity.'

Man transforms 128-year-old railway carriage into unique stay that guests 'adore'
A retired wallpaper designer has turned a 19th-century train carriage into a luxury Airbnb stay at a former railway station. Nigel Brooke, 68, lives in an old train station in England where he's restored a Great Western Railway carriage from 1895. Although trains stopped running through the area in the 1950s, guests today can book a night in the vintage carriage for about $260 thanks to Brooke's $35,000 restoration project. "It is beautiful, and it's quite unique here," Brooke said, as news agency SWNS reported. The exterior has been repainted using original colors sourced from historic railway drawings, while the interior features period wallpaper, a bed and a stove. "I designed all that interior decor, but it was led by original pieces that I found during the restoration," Brooke said. The carriage originally ran on a metropolitan railway line before it was decommissioned in 1940. "It was just chocolate brown everywhere," he told SWNS. "It became a workman's carriage, static somewhere." "It is beautiful, and it's quite unique here." Brooke bought the carriage for about $10,000. He had it transported by road to its current location, he said. It now stands on concrete walls built to align it with the station platform, offering step-free access for guests. "One side was covered in tin - that must have been put there in the '50s or '40s to protect one side," he said. Despite the age of the structure, much of the original oak frame was in good condition. "What I had to do was take each piece off carefully that was rotten and replicate it and rebuild it, using the original bits," Brooke told SWNS. "It's quite early, 1895, for a carriage - it's getting toward disintegration at that age if they've not been restored," he added. "This will be good for a long time now." Brooke originally bought the station in the 1980s when he was in his 30s. He said he was fortunate to find such a historic property. "I was quite lucky to acquire such a nice old historic building," he said. The Airbnb offering has proved popular with guests who are drawn to its charm and railway heritage, SWNS noted. Brooke is now planning to expand his offering by converting the station's old waiting room into an additional guest space with an ensuite bathroom. "I may turn one of the waiting rooms into an Airbnb with an ensuite, so when people stay in this carriage, if they've got friends they can stay in the waiting room at the station house," he said. "People absolutely adore it. There's a lot of history here," Brooke told SWNS. SWNS reported that the restored carriage is already drawing interest from travelers eager to experience a piece of the past in vintage luxury. Travel
