Several critically injured after vehicle 'driven into crowd' in Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Fire Department has said that there are at least 20 injuries after the incident on Santa Monica Boulevard, close to Hollywood.
Between four and five people are said to be in critical condition, eight to 10 in serious condition and 10 to 15 in fair condition.

(Photo by) Honda announced in December that Prelude is making its highly-anticipated return to the North American market for the 2026 model year, nearly 25 years after its last appearance. Although the new car will proudly wear the 'PRELUDE' badge, more than two decades of innovation will make it almost unrecognizable as a direct descendant of the original. To understand how different the all-new model will be when compared to the long-since-discontinued 2001 model, we took a closer look at the chassis, suspension, engine, technology, and pricing. When it arrived in 1997, the fifth-generation Prelude rode on a modified Honda Accord platform. While the wheelbase was shorter, it shared suspension and braking components with the Accord—double-wishbones at all four corners, and disc brakes with a single sliding caliper inside each wheel (the front rotors were ventilated). The 2026 Prelude will share a chassis with the Honda Civic—more specifically, the performance-tuned Type R model. It will feature an innovative dual-axis front suspension, paired with a multi-link rear suspension. There are massive two-piece ventilated brake rotors, with four-piston Brembo calipers, on the front axle. The rear axle will be fitted with disc brakes with single-piston calipers. The 2001 Honda Prelude had 16-inch wheels and 205/55-16 tires—small by today's standards, even though the SH model had slightly wider wheels. Expect the new Prelude to ride on 19- or 20-inch wheels and have significantly wider tires (keep in mind that the performance-oriented 2025 Honda Civic Type R is fitted with 19-inch wheels and 265/30ZR19 tires). Under the hood, the 2001 Prelude featured a standard naturally aspirated 2.2-liter four-cylinder (H22A4 VTEC engine), rated at 200 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque, which sent all the power to the front wheels. A 5-speed manual gearbox was standard, but customers could also opt for a 4-speed automatic transmission. It's an entirely different story with the 2026 Honda Prelude, which has an advanced hybrid powertrain combining an Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with Honda's e:HEV dual-motor hybrid system—one motor for propulsion, and a second for electricity generation (the Prelude won't have a turbocharged engine like the Civic Type R). Power estimates are 200 horsepower and 285 lb-ft for torque. While it retains a front-wheel drive powertrain, the standard transmission is the Honda S+ Shift system—an innovative gear shift simulation system with a sporty S+ Shift drive mode. It will be much quicker than its predecessor—expect the 0-60 mph time to be in a brisk 6 seconds (this rate of acceleration positions the new Prelude favorably against its two primary rivals, the Toyota GR86 and Mazda MX-5 Miata). There was no 'infotainment' option on the last-year 2001 Honda Prelude. Instead, it was equipped with a standard AM/FM stereo, CD player, and six speakers. While it did feature Honda's Acoustic Feedback Sound System (AFB), the only driver interface was a one-line monochromatic LCD. Expect the all-new Prelude to arrive with a robust infotainment system, featuring at least a 9-inch touchscreen, a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Bluetooth, and HondaLink connected services for remote vehicle access and information. In terms of pricing, the Prelude has always been one of Honda's premium products. In 2001, the last year it was sold in the United States, the base price (MSRP) of the base Honda Prelude was approximately $24,040 (the higher trim, the Prelude SH, started around $26,540). Honda has not released pricing for the new model, but most experts believe it will have a base price between $31,000 and $38,000—I'd wager towards the more expensive pricing, especially for a premium trim. In short, the all-new 2026 Honda Prelude will be larger, more comfortable, more powerful, more fuel-efficient, and equipped with far more advanced technology than its predecessor—making it a great value, even with a $10,000 price increase after 25 years.

Possible shooting at Encino home sparks outrage amongst neighbors in midst of crime wave
Just two weeks after "American Idol" producer Robin Kaye and her husband were shot and killed in their Encino home, another possible shooting next door has outraged neighbors who are struggling to feel safe in the midst of a concerning wave of crime affecting their neighborhood. Hundreds of people flooded the White Oak Avenue home for a party that had to be broken up by police late Saturday night, shown in cell phone video captured by neighbors. They say that the house has been a constant issue, and despite complaints, nothing has yet been done. "This party house would've been shut down in Beverly Hills, would've been shut down in Burbank, but in LA you can break the law and there's no consequences," said Rob Glushon, the president of the Encino Property Owners Association. "We're very supportive of LAPD, but honestly they need to be tougher. This is an example of when something gets out of control because the law doesn't get enforced when the problem starts." Related: "American Idol" executive and husband killed with their own gun, LA County DA says Police were called to the home for reports of a disturbance, but they said there was no evidence of a shooting upon investigation. Community members say that the homeowner has been cited several times in the past for hosting loud and unruly parties, but they want the city attorney to file misdemeanor criminal charges against him, as they believe he's been renting the property out for parties. It's just the latest issue in a growing trend that has seen the neighborhood plagued by break-ins, burglaries, robberies and murder. A community meeting days after the deadly double-shooting brought hundreds of concerned neighbors in front of law enforcement and city leaders who said changes were being made. Hours later, two homes were targeted in attempted burglaries, including one at a home belonging to former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Teddi Mellencamp. Neighbors say that that the party house is emblematic of Encino's problems in dealing with lawlessness. "That just kind of talks to the issue that we have in this whole community, where there's so many awful things going on, the burglaries and party houses and even murders," said Roy Nwaisser, president of the Encino Neighborhood Council. "It really does break my heart." "We are gathered together to learn and practice and exercise how to protect yourself inside your house and how to use guns," said one woman who wished not to be identified. "Most people I know here, they purchase the guns right now." Their new steps come at the same time that LAPD says they've increased patrols in the area, included officers on horseback. In coming days, residents will join a zoom meeting with Mayor Karen Bass, their Los Angeles City Council representative and more LAPD officers to give a list of demands.

Multiple stores looted over weekend near Los Angeles street takeovers
Multiple stores were looted across Los Angeles over the weekend near a series of street takeovers, according to authorities. The first instance was reported at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning near Century Boulevard and Central Avenue in South Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. They say that there was a sideshow in the area just minutes before an AutoZone store was broken into. Though it's unclear if any arrests were made in that incident, video from the scene shows some recovered merchandise that was taken from the store, including car rims and a battery. The next morning, at around 2:45 a.m., police were again called for reports of a burglary near the spot of a street takeover. Officers rushed to S. Figueroa Street and Slauson Avenue, where a T-Mobile store had its windows shattered and the inside ransacked. Investigators still have not said if the two instances are connected. Minutes later, just after 3 a.m., deputies were called to the intersection of Wilmington Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard in Carson because of a different street takeover, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. It was there that a WSS shoe store was burglarized, leading to its closure on Sunday. Employees boarded up the stores windows after the burglary, for which at least two people were arrested, deputies said. No arrests have been reported in either the AutoZone or T-Mobile burglaries.
