Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: Kameron Howard

Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: Kameron Howard

USA Today2 days ago
Entering the 2025 season, defensive back Kameron Howard, one could argue, might be a bit of an unknown across the Alabama Crimson Tide fanbase.
A transfer from Charlotte last offseason, Howard came out of high school unranked nationally as a recruit, and was then a later add to Alabama's transfer class a year ago who did not receive as much hype as some of the additional names in the group.
Howard also did not play much with the Crimson Tide a year ago as well, but could that potentially change in year two this fall?
Here is a look at everything you need to know about Alabama defensive back Kameron Howard ahead of the 2025 season.
Kameron Howard player information
Kameron Howard career stats
Howard will be entering his third season of college football this fall, with the defensive back having split the previous two between Charlotte and Alabama. Over those two seasons, Howard has appeared in 16 games, two of which he started, with 40 tackles, one TFL, two interceptions, and one PD.
Kameron Howard 2024 stats
Howard's 2024 season was his first at Alabama, appearing in only four games as a backup. Over those four games, Howard had only two tackles.
Kameron Howard recruiting ranking
Prior to beginning his collegiate career at Charlotte, Howard was unranked as a prospect in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, out of national power St. Francis Academy in Maryland.
Before coming to Alabama, Howard was rated by 247Sports as a three-star transfer, as well as the No. 912 overall player and No. 97 safety in the portal prior to committing to the Crimson Tide in April 2024.
Kameron Howard 2025 season outlook
Entering the 2025 season, it is likely an unknown as to how much action Howard could see in 2025.
At safety, Alabama has two players cemented as starters entering the 2025 season in Keon Sabb and Bray Hubbard, meaning that Howard likely projects as a backup this fall. However, there are also others in that same conversation alongside Howard such as Zavier Mincey and Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., meaning that the former Charlotte transfer will be competing for playing time among that group as well.
Overall, expect Howard to play a depth role defensively in 2025 as a redshirt sophomore, and for the safety to also potentially see time on special teams.

Two Iowa football stars named preseason All-Americans

The Iowa Hawkeyes are littered with talent up and down their roster on offense, defense, and special teams. With a veteran presence, as they carry most years, the Hawkeyes retained some key contributors for another year and are seeing them receive proper notoriety. Two of those key pieces returning are kick and punt return specialist Kaden Wetjen and offensive lineman Gennings Dunker. Both are expected to continue their success at Iowa with big years in 2025. Wetjen and Dunker helped Iowa win games in 2024, and the same will be expected from them this year. With the expectations on them, both of the Iowa stars have been named Sporting News preseason All-Americans. Both were named to the second team. Kaden Wetjen flashed his magic last year for Iowa on special teams. The return specialist put on a show when he touched the ball and made opponents pay for kicking it to him. Wetjen returned 26 kickoffs, averaging 28 yards per return with a touchdown, and returned 26 punts for 12.6 yards per return with another touchdown. Gennings Dunker figures to be a staple on an Iowa offensive line that could be the catalyst of their success this year. He enters his fourth year with the program with 34 games and 25 starts under his belt. His experience and dependability will be called on by Iowa's offense all season long. Iowa football patiently awaiting injury return of key defensive cog

Iowa football is in the midst of its second week of fall camp. On Wednesday, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz caught up with longtime Hawkeye play-by-play voice Gary Dolphin to update how camp is going. Ferentz revealed that Iowa's defensive depth up front has been tested early in camp. "Up front, Jeremiah Pittman's been out. Unfortunately he's coming off a knee repair, so he's still probably a week or two away from going, but it's given other guys an opportunity to get in there and work some. "Obviously, Aaron Graves on one side's pretty solid and then you've got guys like Will Hubert's really done a good job growing, developing. Bryce Hawthorne, young man from South Dakota State's really been impressive. Luke Gaffney. So, we'll have candidates. It's going to be interesting to see how it all develops and we'll get Jeremiah back at some point. I think at the end of the day, that group's going to be fine," Ferentz said. Pittman, a 6-foot-2, 285-pound graduate defensive lineman, was listed as one of Iowa's two starting defensive tackles to begin the spring opposite senior Aaron Graves. Pittman played in all 13 games last season, registering 17 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. The Palatine, Ill., product from St. Viator High School has notched 27 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one pass breakup and one fumble recovery in his Hawkeye career thus far. Pittman has played in 26 games in his Iowa career and was a three-star signee per 247Sports in the 2021 class. Alabama duo named to preseason watch list for 2025 Biletnikoff Award

As likely expected, a pair of Alabama Crimson Tide wide receivers have been named to the preseason watch list for the 2025 Fred Biletnikoff Award. That duo is Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard, as both returning wideouts were among the list of names announced on the preseason watch list. Alabama's top two receivers a year ago, Williams led the Crimson Tide with 865 yards and eight touchdowns a year ago on 48 receptions as a true freshman. Bernard, a now senior, had 794 yards and two touchdowns on 50 catches after transferring to Alabama from Washington. Awarded annually to the nation's top receiver, the Crimson Tide have won the Biletnikoff Award three times before. Those winners were Amari Cooper (2014), Jerry Jeudy (2018), and DeVonta Smith (2020).
