Guard Joel Bitonio will return for 12th season with the Browns
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Joel Bitonio will return for a 12th season with the Cleveland Browns.
The guard announced his decision through the team on Wednesday. Bitonio has played his entire career in Cleveland after he was selected in the second round (35th overall) of the 2014 draft.
Bitonio said at the end of the season that he wanted to take a couple of months before making a final decision. He played a career-high 1,177 offensive snaps this past season and started all 17 games on a team that was 3-14 after making the playoffs in 2023. He has one year remaining on his contract.
Bitonio is a two-time All-Pro pick and has been selected seven times for the Pro Bowl. His 161 games — all starts — are 13th in franchise history with the starts trailing only Hall of Fame tackle Joe Thomas (167) for most by a Cleveland player since 1999.

Mets acquire RHP Justin Garza in trade with Giants
The Mets have acquired RHP Justin Garza from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for cash considerations, the team announced Saturday. Garza, 31, first signed a minor league deal with the Giants organization in March 2024. After pitching to a 3.42 ERA and 1.310 WHIP over 52.2 innings in 37 appearances that year with Triple-A Sacramento, success has been much harder to come by in 19 games at that level this season. He was outrighted and instead elected free agency after the 2023 season. Graza owns a 2-3 record with a 5.74 ERA in 47 innings over 38 major league games with Cleveland (21 games in 2021) and Boston (17 games in 2023).

Yankees' Anthony Volpe misses second game this season after being hit in the left elbow
Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — Anthony Volpe was not in the New York Yankees' lineup Saturday against the Boston Red Sox, a day after getting hit in the left elbow by Walker Buehler's pitch. The durable shortstop missed just his second game of the season. 'Just another day,' manager Aaron Boone said. 'I actually put him in the lineup overnight that I sent out and had him in there up until a couple of hours ago when he got here. Strength, everything's good. He's got a pretty good size swelling in there still. 'Just kind of talking with the trainers, they're like, I think it would do him well to try and get one more day and just get a lot of treatment in there and hopefully he'll be back in there tomorrow." Volpe followed Jazz Chisholm Jr's three-run homer with his own two-run shot in a five-run first inning during New York's 9-6 victory on Friday. In the second inning, Volpe batted with the bases loaded was hit on the left elbow by Buehler's 88.2 mph changeup. He exited starting the fourth inning when the elbow swelled after he took off his brace and compression sleeve. Volpe had an X-ray at Yankee Stadium that was negative and went for a CT scan at New York-Presbyterian/ Columbia University Irving Medical Center that also didn't show any break. 'It's painful and stiff,' Volpe said Friday night. 'Knowing that it's structurally sound and you've got to just get the swelling out, definitely optimistic.' Volpe winced in pain but remained in the game after he was hit by the pitch, which forced in a run. The 24-year-old Gold Glove winner played the field in the third inning, then was replaced by Oswald Peraza at the start of the fourth. Volpe is batting .241 with eight homers and 37 RBIs and 11 of his last 19 hits are for extra bases. Nolan Arenado's ninth-inning RBI double lifts the Cardinals over the Dodgers 2-1

LOUIS (AP) — Nolan Arenado delivered a pinch-hit RBI double in the ninth inning and the St. Louis Cardinals stifled the Los Angeles Dodgers' offense for a second straight game in a 2-1 victory on Saturday. Nolan Gorman led off the ninth with a ground-rule double before being replaced with a pinch runner. After Pedro Pages reached on an error by pitcher Ben Casparius (4-1), the Dodgers vacated left field to play with five infielders, and Arenado's lazy fly ball landed just inside the foul line and bounced into the stands for another ground-rule double. The Dodgers, who lead the majors in scoring, home runs and batting average, were held scoreless for the first 17 innings of the series, but managed to tie it when Shohei Ohtani scored on a wild pitch by Ryan Helsley (3-0) in the top of the ninth.
