Witness in Lim Guan Eng corruption trial attacked in PJ home ahead of court date
Citing a source involved in the trial, the New Straits Times reported that the person sustained multiple injuries to his face and hand after the assailants forced their way into the house.
The attackers allegedly tied up two security guards before entering the premises.
One of the attackers reportedly told the victim to 'stay at home and not become a hero,' the source added.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Shahrulnizam Ja'afar confirmed the incident and said a statement would be issued soon.
Lead prosecutor Datuk Wan Shahruddin Wan Ladin said the prosecution would raise the matter in court when the trial resumes on Aug 19.
Lim, who is the DAP adviser, is faciing multiple corruption charges related to the Penang Undersea Tunnel project at the Sessions Court.
He is accused of soliciting a 10 per cent cut of company profits from Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd's director and receiving RM3.3 million as well as involvement in the disposal of two state land plots linked to the project.

KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 10 — Police have arrested a husband and wife on suspicion of fatally abusing their one-year-and-11-month-old son. Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said police received a report from Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital regarding the boy's death at 4.14 pm on Aug 6. He said the toddler, the youngest of two siblings, was brought to the hospital unconscious at 1 pm by his father and stepmother. According to him, the suspects claimed that the victim fell, causing his forehead to swell, but he played as usual after his father applied ice to reduce the swelling. 'However, at about noon the next day (Wednesday), while preparing to feed him milk, the suspect (the victim's father) found the victim weak and his body limp. The man claimed that he massaged the boy's neck to prevent a seizure, causing it to bruise,' he said in a statement today. Azli said the suspects took the victim to the Manir Health Clinic, but he was referred to the hospital due to his critical condition. He said an examination revealed the victim suffered brain injuries as well as bruises and wounds believed to have been caused by blunt force trauma. 'The victim was pronounced dead at 2.05 pm yesterday. A post-mortem revealed the cause of death was an intracranial haemorrhage due to blunt force trauma. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to hitting the victim with a clothes hanger,' he said. The 27-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were detained at 10 pm in Marang shortly after the boy's burial, he said, adding that they are being remanded for seven days starting today under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. 'Police also seized a clothes hanger used in the incident. The suspects' other son, aged three, has been placed under the care of the Social Welfare Department,' he added. — Bernama

False Zara Qairina posts land first person in Cheras police HQ as MCMC cracks down on misinformation
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded a statement from an individual over false content circulated on social media in connection with the late Zara Qairina Mahathir's case. In a statement, MCMC said the person was summoned to the Cheras police headquarters yesterday, where a mobile phone and a SIM card were also seized to assist investigations. 'The content is believed to contain false information touching on 3R issues (race, religion and royalty), which could cause public confusion and disrupt the authorities' investigation,' the statement read. The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588], which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years' imprisonment, or both, upon conviction. MCMC also urged the public to allow the investigation process to run its course and to be wary of speculative content that could mislead the public. 'The spread of unverified information not only risks hurting the feelings of the victim's family but also breaches ethical values and may interfere with the course of justice,' the commission said. Zara Qairina, 13, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17, a day after she was found unconscious in a drain near the dormitory of a religious school in Papar around 4 am. Yesterday, the Form One student's grave was exhumed on the orders of the Attorney-General's Chambers, which called for further investigations to ensure every aspect of the case is thoroughly scrutinised. — Bernama
