Staffing gaps, poor facilities plague Buxar railway station
Buxar: Despite its strategic and religious importance, Buxar railway station continues to suffer from acute staff shortages and inadequate infrastructure.
Official records show that while nine station masters, including one station manager, are sanctioned, only four station masters and the manager are currently posted.
"In comparison, Kulharia, a much smaller station, has eight station masters and Ara operates with its full quota," said a railway official.
This shortfall hampers 24-hour operations, even as the station manages around 75 pairs of trains daily. In the 2024-25 financial year, Buxar earned over Rs 103 crore, ranking 12th in the East Central Railway zone and 6th in the Danapur division. Yet, key promises made during last year's DRM inspection, such as filling vacancies and air-conditioning the panel room, remain unfulfilled.
Basic amenities are severely lacking. Platforms 2 and 3 have no overhead shelters, seats, or fans, exposing passengers to extreme weather. "This is not just inconvenient but humiliating," said K.K. Ojha, a daily commuter. Sanitation is poor, with garbage-strewn platforms and no functional public toilets.
Outside, traffic congestion caused by unregulated e-rickshaws forces passengers to walk up to half a kilometre to board trains.

Security is minimal, leading to frequent incidents of pickpocketing and mobile theft. "The absence of crowd control and security measures has made travel increasingly unsafe," said Soni Kumari, a local resident.
The night-time operation of the Roti Bank, though well-meaning, has attracted beggars, intoxicated people and anti-social elements, creating an unsafe environment for travellers.
Medical support is also inadequate. The lone railway medical centre between Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction and Danapur has only one doctor and minimal facilities, leaving the station unprepared for emergencies.
Commuters and civil society continue to demand urgent action from railway authorities.

Former SAD Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia sent to 7-day police remand, Mohali court approves Vigilance Bureau's request
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia was remanded in seven days of police custody by a Mohali court on Thursday. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau had arrested him a day earlier on charges of laundering over Rs 540 crore in alleged drug money. The Vigilance Bureau had sought a 12-day remand, but the court granted seven days. Majithia was brought to the court under tight security. A heavy police presence was also deployed around the court complex during the hearing, as Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) workers continued their protests against Majithia's arrest. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers shouted slogans against Majithia outside the court. Subsequently, the police detained SAD workers. Government counsel Harry Sofat argued that Majithia misused his official position to accumulate wealth beyond his known sources of income. He emphasised the need to investigate all companies linked to Majithia, and added that it might require taking him outside Mohali. On the other hand, Majithia's counsel, Arshdeep Singh Kaler, claimed that the case was politically motivated. He pointed out that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report cited by the Vigilance Bureau had been dismissed by the Supreme Court. Speaking to the media outside the court, government lawyer Sofat stated, 'Bikram Singh Majithia has yet to disclose the source of Rs 540 crore in unexplained income, and he has failed to provide any details.'

Delhi ACB Books AAP's Satyendar Jain, Saurabh Bhardwaj In 'Health Infra Scam'; What's The Case?
Last Updated: The Anti-Corruption Branch acted on a complaint from Delhi BJP's Vijender Gupta, alleging serious irregularities and suspected corruption in various health infrastructure projects The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) has booked former Health Ministers Saurabh Bhardwaj and Satyendar Jain in an alleged large-scale corruption case in health infrastructure projects. The ACB acted on a complaint given by former president of Delhi BJP Vijender Gupta, who was then the leader of the opposition in the assembly, alleging serious irregularities and suspected corruption in various health infrastructure projects. What does the complaint say? 24 hospital projects were sanctioned at a cost of Rs 5,590 crore in 2018-19. These projects were plagued by inexplicable delays and astronomical cost overruns. Misuse of public funds was done by systematic manipulation of budget, misuse of funds, and collusion with private contractors. As a result of this, there was a serious cost escalation, which eventually cost crores of rupees to the exchequer. What are the projects under scrutiny? The ACB conducted verification and allegedly found serious violations of rules, tender conditions, and financial protocols. Based on the findings, an FIR was registered against Saurabh Bhardwaj, Satyendar Jain, unknown government officials, and private contractors under Section 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, read with Sections 409, 420, and 120-B of the IPC.
