Rudrankksh Patil focused on training

The Hindu07-05-2025

Rudrankksh Patil is in pursuit of improvement despite winning a gold and two silver medals in the recent World Cups in Buenos Aires and Lima.
The World champion in air rifle, the 21-year-old Rudrankksh, has in consultation with coach Neha Chavan at Gun For Glory, opted to skip the prestigious World Cup in Germany, to focus on his training and be better prepared for the World Championship and the Asian Championship later in the season.
In a free wheeling chat with The Hindu on Wednesday, Rudrankksh, who has completed his graduation in Geography and aspires to pursue M.A., pointed out that recovery after every competition took at least a fortnight.
'I want to improve my qualification scores. I also want to perform better in the finals,' said Rudrankksh who won the individual gold in the World Cup in Argentina.
He had qualified well in the next World Cup in Lima, but a malfunction of the gun on two successive shots, after the two series of five shots, saw him eliminated in the eighth spot.
It was not his fault, but he had to get his gun back to its best behaviour with professional attention.
'The selection trials are coming up in June. I need to be in good shape,' said Rudrankksh who had narrowly missed the cut for the Paris Olympics, after having won the Olympic quota.
Despite being young, Rudrankksh has already achieved a lot on the global stage, yet, is concerned about his future.
'I was far too focused on shooting in the last seven years. Along the way, I realised that diversifying into education and other activities did help my shooting. I want to qualify through UPSC and serve the country. I hope the Central government makes some relaxation for the elite sportspersons, in terms of age, or get them into the fold by testing their competence with a separate procedure,' said Rudrankksh.
At the moment, the focus is on shooting, and Rudrankksh wants to be on top of his game, to be able to shoot the best scores on command, when required.
Experience and guidance has taught him to stay calm and be ready for any situation and have flexible plans, depending on what works, to reach the best performance.

Arjun Tendulkar To Open Bowling For India, Prithvi Shaw To Open Batting? Ignored Star Gives Approval

Young batter Prithvi Shaw is going through a rough patch in his cricketing career. After being dropped and continuously ignored by the selectors for a spot in the Indian team, Shaw's biggest shocker came when was sidelined for Team Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 edition. Apart from this, he even failed to attract any buyers in the IPL 2025 auction and remained unsold. Many rumours were spread that the biggest reason of Shaw's sudden downfall is his unhealthy lifestyle and lack of discipline. Recently, Shaw gave an interview to News24 Sports, where he was asked whether he visualises himself and Arjun Tendulkar playing for India, with Shaw opening the batting and Arjun opening the bowling. "Absolutely. Why not?" said Shaw. For the unversed, both Shaw and Arjun Tendulkar, son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, are childhood friends. Talking about Shaw's IPL career, the 25-year-old batter played for Delhi Capitals for some years before getting released by the franchise after the 2024 season. On the other hand, Arjun joined the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in 2022 and made his IPL debut in 2023. He played five matches for MI and was bought again by them during the 2-25 mega auctions. However, he did not get even a single game in that season. Speaking about Arjun's IPL career, Shaw said, "Only when you play, you'd realise how talented and skilled he is." Lastly, Shaw stated that his ultimate goal is to play for India in both ODI and T20 World Cups and he will be giving his best, in order to prepare for the upcoming edition. "One of my goal is to win the World Cup for India. Both the World Cups, ODI and T20. The next World Cups will be in my mind, and I will prepare for them," said Shaw. Shaw made his debut for India in 2018 in a Test match against West Indies. He scored 339 runs, including a century, in five Test matches that he played for India before getting dropped in 2020. Apart from this, he played six ODIs and one T20I for India and his last appearance for the national side came in 2021.

From backyard akhara to Asian glory: Priyanshi's way to glory

1 2 3 Lucknow: Priyanshi Prajapat, a wrestling gold medallist in the U-23 Asian Championship in Vietnam, has an inspiring journey that bears an uncanny resemblance to that of the Phogat sisters from Haryana. She has so far won three international medals, including a bronze at the World Championship in Bulgaria and a silver at the Asian Championship in Jordan. A trainee at NCOE Lucknow in the 50kg freestyle category, Priyanshi works in Uttar Pradesh Police. Her sister, also a wrestler, serves in the UP Police as well. Their father, a daily wage labourer in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, is a passionate wrestler who built a makeshift akhara in the backyard of their home and encouraged his daughters to take up the sport from an early age. Sharing her wrestling journey with TOI, Priyanshi said, "I come from a family of three sisters and a brother, and we faced severe financial struggles as our father worked as a labourer. Nevertheless, he continuously supported both my sister and me. He initially coached my elder sister, and later, I continued my training at TT Nagar Stadium in Bhopal." "I see about 80% resemblance to the storyline of the Bollywood movie Dangal," Priyanshi said, drawing parallels between her father's strict nature and the societal opposition they faced as girls in wrestling. "At one point, I even expressed my unwillingness to wrestle, but my father persisted, and eventually, I adapted to the sport. My eldest sister now works as a nurse, while another sister and I began wrestling together in 2016. Our younger brother has also taken up wrestling," she said. Speaking about her future goals, she said, "I'm preparing for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. My aim is to secure a spot on the Olympic team and win a medal. I'm also targeting the 2026 Asian Games." She credited SAI for providing outstanding facilities, including quality diet, world-class coaches, physiotherapists, and security. "In 2023, I secured a post with the UP Police and have been training at SAI for the last six months," she added. Chief wrestling coach at NCOE Lucknow, Sahil Sharma, said, "I had set a goal of winning a medal, and with Priyanshi's dedication, we managed to achieve it. When she arrived, she already had two international medals—a bronze and a silver—so we resolved to change the medal's colour, and we did. With the World Championship just a month away, we are aiming for another medal, followed by a focus on the 2026 Asian Games and the Olympics. " SAI regional director Atma Prakash, said, "I congratulate both Priyanshi Prajapati and her coach Sahil. They've done a great job. It's a proud moment for SAI, Lucknow. We are always ready to provide every facility needed in every discipline."

Who is Carter Hart? The Canadian hockey star accused in the Hockey Canada sexual assault scandal

Once viewed as the future of goaltending in Philadelphia, Carter Hart's NHL career has taken a dramatic turn amid serious criminal allegations tied to the 2018 Hockey Canada sexual assault scandal. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now A former standout with the Everett Silvertips and one of Canada's brightest young stars between the pipes, Hart now finds himself at the center of one of hockey's most controversial and troubling stories. A rising Canadian goaltender with a reputation for mental toughness and poise Born in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Hart was introduced to sports psychology by age 10 and was known for his sharp focus and calm demeanor on the ice. Drafted 48th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2016, he quickly emerged as a top NHL goaltender, becoming the youngest in franchise history to win his debut in 2018. His poise in high-pressure moments—like back-to-back playoff shutouts in 2020—earned him widespread praise. Internationally, Hart was a mainstay in Team Canada's net, winning gold at the 2018 World Junior Championship and silver at the 2019 World Championship. Known for his vision training, quiet intensity, and technical discipline, he was often compared to Montreal Canadiens legend Carey Price—his childhood idol. From NHL starter to unrestricted free agent after serious criminal charges Everything changed in early 2024. Hart was placed on indefinite leave by the Flyers in January, with the team citing "personal reasons." Days later, London, Ontario police named Hart as one of five players ordered to surrender and face charges related to an alleged sexual assault involving members of Canada's 2018 World Junior team. On February 5, Hart was officially charged with one count of sexual assault. The allegations stem from an incident that has rocked Hockey Canada and led to national outcry, mass resignations, and suspended funding from the federal government. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In the wake of the charges, the Flyers declined to extend a qualifying offer to Hart, making him an unrestricted free agent. He has not returned to professional play since.
