PSNI arrest man for attempted murder after car rams drinkers
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two people were seriously injured when a car hit drinkers outside a Co Down bar on Saturday night.
Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) detective inspector Oonagh Ryan said the collision was reported shortly after 11pm at Main Street in Millisle village, a seaside resort on the Ards Peninsula. A festival had taken place in the village earlier in the day.
'It was reported that the vehicle involved, turned around and drove past the licensed premises again before making off from the scene,' Ms Ryan said.
The PSNI and ambulance service attended the scene.

Two people were taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries, which have been described as serious, said Ms Ryan.
The vehicle was located a short time later outside Walkers Lane, Millisle. One man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a number of driving offences, she said.
He is currently in police custody.'
The street was closed for a period on Sunday. Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam, doorbell or other footage of the incident to come forward.

I'm not on any benefits or anything. "I don't have any other choice than to be here. I am scared – where am I going to go to?' A PSNI spokesperson said they were investigating a number of reports of criminal damage in the area which they believe to be racially motivated. Chief Inspector Mullan said: 'My officers are investigating two arson incidents which occurred on Thursday evening, June 5. "There have been several other hate crimes in this area in recent weeks and we will be reviewing all of the incidents to try to establish if they are linked. "Enquiries into both incidents, which are being treated as hate crimes, are ongoing, and we are appealing to anyone with any information which might assist us to come forward. "The number to call is 101, quoting reference number 1825 05/06/25. 'These kind of attacks are completely unacceptable, and I want to make it clear that Police will do everything in their power to identify the offenders and bring them before the courts. 'We will be conducting a thorough investigation, and local patrols will be increased in this area as we work to bring this criminality, which has no place in our society, to an end. 'The police cannot prevent and detect this behaviour alone and I would ask for the support of elected representatives, partner agencies, community leaders and local residents to work with us and help us to end these attacks. "These attacks are impacting on families living in the area, some of whom have young families.'

Tributes paid after shock death of father-of-three following incident in Armagh
His death following what the PSNI are describing as 'an incident' has sent shockwaves throughout the local close-knit community The Louth man who died after sustaining serious injuries in an incident in south Armagh in the early hours of Saturday May 31 has been named as James O'Connor, late of 2 Euston Street, Greenore and formerly of Rampark, Jenkinstown, Dundalk. The 42 year-old builder was a member of a very well-known and highly respected family from the Cooley peninsula passed away on Wednesday June 4. His heartbroken family said it was 'with great sadness' that they announced his 'tragic and unexpected death.' He was predeceased by his father Jim in 2017 and his survived by partner Laura, his children James, Millie, and Lucy, his mother Phil, siblings Evanna, Ellen, and Tommy, aunts, uncles, and a large circle of relatives and friends. Man who beat vulnerable partner to death in Co Antrim home jailed for 19 years
A man who beat his vulnerable partner 'again and again and again until he killed her' in her Co Antrim home has been jailed for a minimum of 19 years for her murder. As he sentenced John David Scott (36) for murdering his 32-year old partner Natasha Melendez, Mr Justice Weir said he had inflicted multiple injuries upon the mother-of-four in prior assaults before the fatal attack on March 22nd, 2020. This occurred in her Finch Gardens home in Lisburn, which the judge said was a place where she should have felt safe. Ms Melendez, who was orginally from Venezuela, died in hospital on April 1st, 2020.
