Killer lice attacking high school is the latest horror movie shoot in Hamilton
Lice that can turn a person homicidal escape from a research laboratory and find their way into the scalps of staff and kids at a high school.
That's the premise of the new horror movie 'LICE,' filming at the former Delta Secondary School.
The movie, involving the production company of 'Entourage' star Kevin Connolly, started shooting May 13 and is the latest horror flick to shoot in the Hammer. The production also involves Hamilton-based French Toast Films.
'LICE,' involving the production company of 'Entourage' star Kevin Connolly, started shooting May 13 and is the latest horror flick to shoot in the Hammer.
On the first day of filming at the Main Street East landmark, cameras shot a scene outside the Graham Avenue entrance of the school, which closed to students in 2019.
Actors were dressed up like high school students, carrying knapsacks and wearing letter jackets. Cars in the parking lot were 1970s vintage, including a Chevrolet and an Oldsmobile.
The ornate front of the school had a blue American mailbox out front and a large American flag on the flagpole. A truck pulled up carrying emergency vehicles, including an ambulance, a sheriff's truck and a police car with a logo for the Des Plaines police department and the motto 'Dignity, Determination, Decency.' The film is set in Long Island, N.Y., in the 1980s.

Connolly, 51, is best known for his role as the agent Eric Murphy (known as 'E') in the HBO series 'Entourage,' which ran from 2004-2011 and was also a 2015 movie. He's also a producer and director. His company is Action Park Media.
Connolly arrived in Hamilton in January to scout locations and came to the school. Since coming here, he has found his way a number of times to the End Zone Bar & Grill across the street from the school.
'I love Hamilton,' he told The Spec at the set.
Connolly plays a police detective in the movie. 'LICE' also stars Emile Hirsch as a science teacher and Justin Long as the principal. The director is Canadian Jonathan Bensimon and it was written by Anthony Musella and Shaun Harris.
According to a trailer on the film's Instagram account, the U.S. government determined during the height of the Cold War that the nuclear option was no option to confront the Soviet Union, so it turned to a doctor in a research laboratory for help. He developed biologically-engineered lice that would break a person's mind.
However, a variant was created that awakens a 'homicidal behaviour.' The army eventually steps in and the school is locked down.

Dominic Ewenson, president of French Toast Films, which was involved in the Hamilton-filmed 'The Love Club' movies, is one of the co-producers. He said he was approached a while ago by the American producers and said he's excited about the project. Ewenson moved French Toast Films from Toronto to Hamilton last year.
'This is the main location for the film, but I'm sure there will be a few shots we will be doing here and there,' Ewenson told The Spec adding filming will last about a month and about 70 people are working on the movie.
'We're very proud to be able to bring a show here and be able to put some money into the local economy and encourage the film infrastructure in Hamilton,' Ewenson said.
Dominic Ewenson, president of Hamilton-based French Toast Films, is helping make the horror movie 'LICE' at the former Delta Secondary School.
Postproduction has not yet been set, but it sounds like the movie will have a theatrical release.
'Stay tuned,' Ewenson said. 'We're sure this will end up where everyone can watch. We're hoping for a wide release, so hopefully everyone can see it sometime next year.'
Horror films/shows that have shot in the city since the start of the year include one about zombies, a deadly wedding, a deadly marriage, ghosts and a murderous Santa Claus. The prequel to 'IT,' called 'Welcome to Derry' for HBO Max, and 'Fear Street: Prom Queen' shot in the city, including at the former Delta. The latter premieres on Netflix on Friday, May 23.

Huge pro-Israel summit in Texas canceled over threats
A massive pro-Israel conference in Texas has been canceled over 'threats from violent Jihadists' — even after changing venues over security concerns, organizers said. The Israel Summit, scheduled for next Monday through Wednesday in Dallas, switched locations due to 'indirect and direct threats made by American, pro-Hamas, Jihadist groups, who issued calls to 'target' the Israel Summit,' the organizers said in a statement. But anti-Israel activists outed the new venue and planned to protest the event, according to Luke Hilton from the Israel Guys, which was co-hosting the event. 'This is America in 2025,' former US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, who was one of the slated speakers for the event, wrote on X. AFP via Getty Images 'Honestly, it feels like it's no longer safe for Jews and Christians who support Israel to publicly,' he said. He said law enforcement uncovered other threats on the dark web to 'target' the event — which was set to host some 1,000 attendees. 'After the two Israeli embassy staffers were murdered in Washington, DC, two weeks ago and then last week people were firebombed in Colorado, to me and to all the rest of us on our team, the word 'targeting' — that's a call to violence,' Hilton said. The three-day summit is run by pro-Israel Christian organizations and was expected to feature former US officials, members of the Israeli government and survivors of Hamas' Oct. 7 terror attack. Ten days before the Israel Summit was set to kick off, Dallas authorities said the threat level had been elevated, said Josiah Hilton, also of Israel Guys, according to Jewish New Syndicate. That forced the event's organizers to come up with 'a mandatory security plan with a substantial budget estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars,' leaving them to find a new location. They then found a 'new and significantly safer location just north of Dallas' with 'top-tier private security, with additional support from local law enforcement and coordination with the Texas governor's office.' But ultimately they had to cancel after the Palestinian Youth Movement Dallas outed the new spot as 'an isolated compound owned by staunch Israel ally evangelical televangelist Kenneth Copeland' under the campaign 'Texas un-welcomes the genocide summit.' 'This is America in 2025,' former US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, who was one of the slated speakers for the event, wrote on X. He added: 'Law enforcement was completely cooperative but the threats were of a nature that required cancellation. When @POTUS says we need to take our country back, this is a good example of what he means!'

Porn site founder accused of sex trafficking pleads guilty in California
SAN DIEGO (AP) — The founder of a California-based porn empire that recruited women with false modeling offers pleaded guilty to sex trafficking charges in a federal court, authorities said. Michael James Pratt pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in San Diego, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. He faces a possible life sentence when he is sentenced Sept. 25. Pratt, 42, was on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list when he was arrested in Madrid in 2022, three years after he fled while facing sex trafficking charges. Federal prosecutors said Pratt and his co-defendants used force, fraud and coercion to recruit hundreds of women, many of whom were in their late teens, for their adult videos. A New Zealand native, he founded the now-defunct GirlsDoPorn website in San Diego. In 2019, he and others were charged in San Diego with sex crimes after being targeted in a civil lawsuit by 22 women who claimed they were victimized by fraud and breach of contract. The women said they were plied with alcohol and marijuana before being rushed through signing a contract, which they were not allowed to read. Some said they were sexually assaulted and held in hotel rooms unwillingly until adult filming had ended. A judge in 2020 found in favor of the women and handed down a $12.7 million judgment against Pratt, Matthew Isaac Wolfe and adult producer and performer Ruben Andre Garcia. Wolfe, who handled day-to-day operations, finances, marketing and filming for the website, pleaded guilty in 2022 to a single federal count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking. He was sentenced last year to 14 years in federal prison. The other co-defendants also pleaded guilty. Garcia was sentenced to 20 years in prison and cameraman Theodore Gyi received a four-year sentence. Valorie Moser, a former bookkeeper for the website, also pleaded guilty last year. She's scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 12. Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. There was a problem with the recaptcha. Please try again. You may unsubscribe at any time.
