Reims' Cédric Kipré to join Ipswich Town on loan

Yahoo10-07-2025
Stade de Reims centre-back Cédric Kipré (28) is set to return to English football – the Ivorian international will join Championship side Ipswich Town on loan for the 2025/26 season, according to L'Équipe. The deal includes a mandatory purchase clause worth €4.5m in the event of the Tractor Boys securing an immediate return to the Premier League.
Both clubs suffered relegation last season: Reims were sent down to Ligue 2 following a dramatic end to the Ligue 1 campaign, while Ipswich dropped out of the Premier League just one year after promotion.

Kipré arrived in Champagne last summer on a free transfer from West Bromwich Albion and made 28 league appearances in his debut Ligue 1 campaign. He also played the full 90 minutes in the Coupe de France final defeat to PSG (0-3) at the Stade de France in May.
Although the former PSG academy player had never featured in Ligue 1 before 2023/24, he is no stranger to the English second tier, having amassed 174 Championship appearances across five seasons with Wigan, Barnsley and West Brom. His performances last season earned him a first cap for Ivory Coast in June – a 1-0 defeat to New Zealand.
Kipré remains under contract with Reims until 2027, but the club are expected to bank €4.5m from the deal if Ipswich secure promotion.

Who are the European transfer window winners so far?

Yahoo Sports contributors Christian Polanco and Alexis Guerreros explain why Liverpool and Chelsea are the winners of the European transfer window. Hear the full conversation on the 'The Cooligans' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript The transfer window isn't over yet, but as of right now, you have to say Liverpool is the transfer winner. They are absolutely putting in work. I have a list of their transfers right here because I didn't want to make any mistakes and let her check and let the comments go crazy. Uh, but they've absolutely put in work. Obviously, we are you know Floriverts, incredible Kirke, incredible Frimpong, incredible. They've also brought in some additional bodies like Harvey Davies, Woodman, Pepsi. I hope I pronounced that correctly. The basic point is though, when you look at it, and we talked about this last week, Liverpool said, all right, we won the league easily, right? In pretty easy fashion we won the league. Well, yeah, we didn't do that well in Champions League once we got to the knockout stages, right? They got bumped out, they were on top of the the league phase. How do you, how do you make yourself better than you were last year? And that's, you gotta make yourself better on a global stage versus just in the Premier League. In the Premier League, well, you have to do is keep pace with everyone else cause you're already better than everybody else. How do you, and they're gonna retool to try to beat you. How do you get better in Champions League? How about you go out and get pretty much the number one wonder kid in all of the sport in Florian Virts, and you pay in ungodly amount. I mean, what is it? 120, 125 million, which feels like too much. It's a lot of money for. I mean, even seeing that, like Virts is good. Am I crazy for thinking that it's a little too absolutely incredible 125 million. It seems like a lot of money. My winner is Chelsea, the best club in the world, I guess right now. For the moment, winners of the Club World Cup and watching them play in person as well, you see the, I mean, John Pedro, I think might end up being the signing of the of the season, as far as how effective he was and he came from vacation and was like, hey, I'm already in form to be playing, so I think he's gonna end up being probably the one of the better transfers of the season. McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown admitted that he wasn't "surprised" by Red Bull Racing's decision to part ways with Christian Horner, seemingly suggesting that his ousting was imminent. Brown highlighted that there was "a lot of drama" at Red Bull that kept getting "worse." Horner's Red Bull split arrived after he had served the team for twenty years, shocking the world of F1. However, Brown likely saw it coming, given the controversies that made headlines when the 2024 season had just begun. The former Red Bull team boss was accused of inappropriate behavior by a female colleague, which led to an internal investigation. However, he was cleared of any wrongdoing by Red Bull GmbH. Horner reportedly received flak from Max Verstappen's father, Jos Verstappen, for what had unfolded. This followed reports of an internal power struggle between Horner and senior advisor Helmut Marko. High-profile exits from Red Bull, such as Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley, soon followed, leading to a management shuffle. While Red Bull didn't reveal the reason for Horner's immediate departure, Brown suggested that he saw it coming. In an interview with TSN, the McLaren boss was asked if he was surprised by Horner's exit. He said: "Maybe the timing, but not the result. There's been a lot of drama there the last couple of years and it doesn't seem like that drama has been calming down, maybe even been getting worse. So, I'm not surprised, anytime in the middle of the season." Brown revealed that he was more focused on the F1 season ahead, with both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris leading the Drivers' Standings in the same order. Verstappen is placed third in the championship, 69 points adrift of Piastri. Brown added: "But, we're head down on our Championship. They've got Max still knocking on the door, so we've got to pay attention to that. But, tremendous amount of success they had." With Horner linked to Ferrari and Alpine F1 teams, Brown predicts he could return to motorsports in the future. He said: "I think given his age and his history in motor racing, I'd be surprised if he didn't show up somewhere in motor racing. "But I don't know his other interests, whether he wants to go run a football team or what have you. We'll see." Asked if he was following news about Horner, Brown said: "Yeah. But couldn't be happier with Oscar and Lando. So, sure to be the interested spectator. I'm very happy with my driver line-up. So, I don't want to spend any time on other than what pops up on my phone."
