Wife of Reality TV Star Learns Fate After Murder-for-Hire Plot

The estranged wife of Ghost Adventures star Aaron Goodwin has been sentenced to a minimum of 3 years to 7.5 years in a Nevada prison following her conviction in a murder-for-hire plot involving a Florida inmate who is a convicted killer himself.
Aaron, 49, confronted Victoria Goodwin in court at her sentencing hearing and detailed how he felt when he first learned about her diabolical plan to have him killed because she wanted out of the marriage.
"For seven years I thought I was in [the] most loving relationship of marriage with my best friend, someone I trusted [with my] whole heart and laughed with every day. Someone who made me feel like I was so — like I was her one and only,' Aaron said in video captured by Court TV. "Now, discovering she put a hit out to kill me more than once, got blackmailed and spent almost all our savings to keep it quiet … This has led me to fear [for] my life,' he continued, through tears. 'I've hired armed security for weeks. Not knowing [whether] it was over or not.'For her part, Victoria said she'll never forgive herself for the "stupid" choices she made.
"I'm so immensely sorry for the pain and anxiety I have caused you and the betrayal you undoubtedly and rightfully feel by my actions," she read from a prepared statement. "I'm sorry I broke us, and I'm consumed with regret every day."
Victoria, who pled guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, became pen pals with Grant Amato, a Florida inmate serving a life sentence following his conviction of a triple murder. She had seen a true crime documentary about his case and began writing to him.
Victoria set aside more than $11,000 to pay a hitman, allegedly hired by Grant. Prosecutors, who uncovered the plot through text and Facebook messages Victoria sent to Grant's seized phone, say Victoria went as far as telling Grant about Aaron's whereabouts as he filmed Discovery's Ghost Adventures with Zak Bagans.
Prosecutors alleged Victoria was so nervous about the setup that she demanded a play-by-play of when the murder was to take place.
Victoria's lawyers sought a lighter sentence, claiming she had never been in trouble with the law and had abandoned the murder-for-hire plot before it was uncovered.

Travelling couple witness 'heartbreaking' incident with speeding 4WD on country road

An Aussie couple were travelling down a straight country road in search of a rare species of bird when a 'speeding' 4WD drove through a significant portion of the remaining population. Only around 1,500 breeding pairs of regent parrots remain, and two individuals were mowed down by the vehicle, prompting a confused response from nearby birds. Melbourne-based Chenoa Odgaard and her partner, photographer Jacob Gates, were deep in Victoria's Mallee country, near the town of Ouyen, when they witnessed the 'heartbreaking' incident. 'It didn't stop, it just kept flying down the road. The driver probably didn't even know what they had hit,' she told Yahoo News Australia. 'There's no signage, there's no monitoring, no one seems to be held accountable for how they drive.' The road where the birds were killed is a hotspot for Australia's native birds. It stretches through bushland reserves and farmland, and food is abundant at the end of winter, attracting flocks to the gravel edges where it's easy to find fallen seed. Complex reasons regent parrots love roadsides Sean Dooley from conservation non-profit BirdLife Australia explained that regent parrots tend to follow vegetation corridors along roads, as they move from nesting habitat in ancient red gums, out into the surrounding Mallee. "They're really tied to roads, and follow the roadsides for their travel, which puts small groups at a high risk of being killed by cars and trucks," Dooley said. French Canadian research found that intelligent bird species like parrots can learn to estimate the average speed of cars on roads they frequent, but not the actual speed of an individual car. "If everyone is travelling at the same speed, they can adapt, but if someone is travelling faster than the average, that's when most roadkill occurs. So it really is an issue with speed," Dooley added." Australian authorities caught unlawfully using 'cruel' devices to catch Alarm raised after strange backyard phenomenon worsens in Aussie region Disturbing discovery on remote Aussie island 'paints a concerning picture' Another problem the birds face when trying to avoid speeding vehicles is that most birds have a belly full of grain from feeding, and this makes them heavier and slower. In the 1980s, this was a particular issue because grain trucks leaving farms wouldn't cover their loads properly, leaving it spilled across the roadside. "The birds would basically be gorging themselves," Dooley said. Today, seeds are swept onto roadsides by wind and rain, and they remain easy feeding grounds. Surviving birds return to scene after pair run down Regent parrots live in small flocks and are known for their striking yellow colouring. They were once considered common, but their range has significantly declined due to habitat destruction, pesticide poisoning, road strikes, fire and drought. The Mallee region remains an important stronghold. After the pair of regent parrots were killed on Wednesday, Chenoa and Jacob watched the response from surviving members of the flock. 'There's a picture of the dead birds lying next to each other, with the others standing around them. It was almost like they were trying to work out what had happened and whether they would wake up,' Chenoa said. 'It was sad to see. They're obviously very tight-knit in their little groups.' Call to help reduce regent parrot deaths After the flock had flown away, Jacob picked up the two dead birds and placed them on the side of the road. They were left wondering whether the birds were killed out of 'callousness' or if the driver was simply driving too fast to notice them. Because regent parrots can be skittish, passing cars can disturb flocks and cause them to fly across the road and into the path of danger. Chenoa and Jacob regularly head up to the Mallee, and sadly, they've seen five dead last week on roads. But they're far from being the only species impacted by speeding drivers. Because threatened Mallee fowl build their famously giant nests close to roads, they're also vulnerable to vehicle strikes. While there's signage marking the Mallee fowl hotspots, they frequently see drivers fly by without slowing down. And there's nothing alerting motorists to the regent parrots. 'I don't think signage will deter them much. I think motorists just really need to be held accountable for their driving. Temporary speed cameras would probably really help,' Chenoa said. Review: Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller and Emily Beecham are sisters in Kristin Scott Thomas' superb ‘My Mother's Wedding'

Kristin Scott Thomas has directed and co-written a film that in the best way borrows from her own life without descending into a straight autobiography. In 'My Mother's Wedding,' she takes a tragedy from her childhood and places it in a fictional context that allows the story to deepen, expand and find its wings. The all-important germ of truth behind 'My Mother's Wedding' is that when Thomas was five years old, her father, a military pilot, was killed in a training exercise. Her mother remarried another pilot, but this stepfather was also killed in a training exercise, when Thomas was 11. So she grew up feeling the absence of two fathers in her life. Thomas transplants this circumstance to a modern family. Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller and Emily Beecham play three sisters, who grew up, as Thomas did, having lost two fathers. The three come home for the wedding of their mother (Thomas), who, after many years, is marrying her third husband. Each of the sisters is highly functional, yet screwed up in some fundamental way. Miller makes the most of the juicy role of Victoria, a screen actress who specializes in trashy, commercial movies. Her love life has been a crowded and endless series of men and busted up relationships. Johansson plays Katherine who, following the military example of her two fathers, is a highly successful Naval officer, but her personal life is strained. She's too distant to fully engage with her girlfriend (Freida Pinto) and disappears for long stretches without contact. Katherine is as introverted as Victoria is extroverted, and it makes for a dull role — or at least a dull performance from Johansson. The youngest sister, Georgina ( Beecham) is a nurse, who is married with children. But her husband is a creep — loud, flashy and insensitive — who cheats on her relentlessly. The personalities of these characters and of the actresses playing them are so distinct that it takes a long while for it to sink in that all three women are still struggling with the same loss. Victoria is replacing her fathers with a succession of lovers; Katherine is protecting herself from grief by staying emotionally remote; and Georgina is holding on to a ridiculous husband and a toxic marriage out of fear of experiencing further loss. Miller is a pleasure in every scene she's in, and Beecham, as Georgina, grows with the role and becomes just as interesting as her more famous costars. The movie finds ways to stay interesting from scene to scene, and though in a couple of places the screenplay seems to be pushing the actresses into conflicts that are barely there, for the most part 'My Mother's Wedding' feels emotionally true. Still, the best part of the movie, by far, belongs to Thomas. In a way, it's almost diabolically sneaky. Thomas gets big ticket actresses to star in her movie but then hands herself the film's single great scene. It comes when the mother and her grown daughters are visiting the gravesite of their two lost fathers. Simply, with little fuss or emphasis, Thomas launches into a brilliant monologue in which she talks about her late husbands and counsels her daughters in the ways they need to get on with their lives. The speech shows why fiction is usually more powerful than autobiography. Through this monologue of a mother talking to her daughters, Thomas gets to address her younger self — or younger selves — distilling a lifetime's accumulated wisdom into a few minutes of screen time. If it were anyone else, this scene might represent the summit of their art, but Thomas has had too great a career to say anything that reckless. But certainly, this scene is up there with her best work in ' I've Loved You So Long,' ' Leaving,' ' Love Crime ' and 'The English Patient.'
