Israeli defense chief threatens to retaliate for Houthi missiles

Yemen Online18 hours ago
Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz vowed to retaliate against Iran-aligned Houthis after his country's military intercepted a missile launched from Yemen toward Israeli territory.
'The fate of Yemen is the same as that of Tehran,' Katz said in a statement, referring to last month's 12-day conflict during which Israel targeted Iran's nuclear and missile programs.
'After striking the head of the snake in Tehran, we will also strike the Houthis in Yemen. Whoever raises a hand against Israel — that hand will be cut off,' the statement said.
Israel has threatened Yemen's Houthi movement — which has been attacking Israel in what it says is solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip — with a naval and air blockade if its attacks on Israel persist.
Since the start of Israel's war in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthis, who control most of Yemen, have been firing at Israel and at shipping in the Red Sea, disrupting global trade.
Most of the dozens of missiles and drones they have launched have been intercepted or fallen short. Israel has carried out a series of retaliatory strikes.
Mike Huckabee, US President Donald Trump's ambassador to Israel, posted on X: 'We thought we were done with missiles coming to Israel, but Houthis just lit one up over us in Israel.
Fortunately, Israel's incredible interception system means we go to the shelter & wait until all clear. Maybe those B2 bombers need to visit Yemen!'

Houthi militia Bomb Home of Quran Teacher in Yemen's Raymah Province, Killing Prominent Religious Figure

Aden – Houthi militants launched a violent assault on the home of Sheikh Saleh Hantous, a respected Quran teacher in al-Ma'dhab village, al-Salafiyah district of Raymah province, resulting in his death and the serious injury of his wife. According to local sources and Yemeni officials, the Houthis surrounded the house with over 20 military vehicles before bombarding it with RPGs and heavy weapons, setting the home ablaze and trapping the elderly couple inside. The attack reportedly came after Sheikh Hantous refused to comply with Houthi orders to stop teaching Quran and Arabic to children in the village mosque. Eyewitnesses reported that the Houthis prevented medical aid from reaching the wounded, leaving Sheikh Hantous's wife in critical condition. A voice recording from the scene, shared by the family, captured the elderly woman pleading for help under heavy shelling. The incident has sparked outrage across Yemen, with activists launching the hashtag #Saleh_Hantous to demand justice and international condemnation. Human rights groups have called for an urgent investigation and for the Houthis to be held accountable for war crimes. This attack adds to a growing list of Houthi violations against civilians, religious leaders, and educators, and underscores the urgent need for international action to protect vulnerable communities in Houthi-controlled areas.

Houthi Attack on Israel Prompts Huckabee Call for US Airstrike in Yemen

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee called for American airstrikes on Yemen after Israeli defenses shot down a missile fired by Houthi fighters toward Jerusalem late Tuesday. The interception was the first of its kind since the US-led bombing campaign against Iran began last month. 'We thought we were done with missiles coming to Israel, but Houthis just lit one up over us in Israel,' Huckabee wrote on social media. 'Maybe those B-2 bombers need to visit Yemen!' His remarks came a little over a week after US B-2 stealth bombers carried out Operation Midnight Hammer, a strike that President Donald Trump hailed as a 'historic military success,' declaring the targeted Iranian nuclear facilities 'completely obliterated.' Pentagon officials said more than 30 tons of munitions were dropped in the raid, which relied on the Air Force's small fleet of 20 B-2s. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz signaled that Yemen could be next in line. 'The law of Yemen is the law of Tehran,' he warned. 'After we strike the head of the serpent in Tehran, we will also strike the tail of the serpent in Yemen.' Tension with Yemen resurfaced only weeks after Washington reached a short-lived arrangement with the Houthis: the group agreed to stop attacking US naval vessels in return for a pause in American strikes on Houthi positions. Tuesday's launch appears to have unraveled that deal. Although Huckabee has stressed that he does not set policy, his fiery post points to growing pressure within the US-Israel partnership to hit Iranian-backed groups harder across the region.

British MP calls for recognizing Palestine as "Goodwill Gesture'

London – SABA: Alicia Kearns, Chair of the UK Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, has urged the British government to recognize Palestine as a "goodwill gesture." In press statements on Wednesday, Kearns emphasized: "We must recognize Palestine as a goodwill gesture. We need to convince [the UK government] to pressure Israel on establishing a Palestinian state." She warned: "The far-right Israeli government is entrenching control over the West Bank—soon there may be no Palestine left to recognize." Whatsapp Telegram Email Print
