Bangladesh Outfit Backed By Turkish NGO Was Behind Anti-India Map: Jaishankar In Parliament
Jaishankar's written statement came in response to a question in Rajya Sabha by Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala.
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has told the Parliament that the Centre has taken note of an Islamic group in Dhaka — Saltanat-e-Bangla — which published a map of 'Greater Bangladesh" and included parts of India.
The Minister said that the group is backed by a Turkish NGO, identified as the 'Turkish Youth Federation".
Jaishankar's written answer came in response to a starred question by Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala in the Rajya Sabha. He said that the map in question was displayed at Dhaka University.
'The Government has taken note of reports that an Islamist group in Dhaka called the 'Saltanat-e-Bangla', backed by a Turkish NGO called the 'Turkish Youth Federation', has put out a map of the so-called 'Greater Bangladesh' that includes parts of India. The map was displayed in the Dhaka University," a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs quoted the Minister as saying.
Jaishankar said that the government is closely monitoring the developments having implications for national security and is taking necessary steps to safeguard it.
'The Government of Bangladesh fact-checker platform, 'BanglaFact', claimed that there is no evidence of 'Saltanat-e-Bangla' operating in Bangladesh. It further clarified that the 'map' was displayed at a historical exhibition in reference to the so-called earlier Bengal Sultanate," the statement said.

"Ignore Baseless Allegations": Poll Body On Rahul Gandhi's Voter Fraud Claim
New Delhi: Pushing back against fresh allegations of "vote theft" made by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, the Election Commission of India has termed them "baseless". The Election Commission (EC) also said an email and a letter had been sent to Mr Gandhi in June, inviting him to meet and discuss the voter roll issue, but he had not responded. The Congress MP had, instead, made "wild allegations" and even threatened the EC and its staff, the poll panel said. Speaking to reporters about the Bihar Special Intensive Revision on Friday, the Congress leader had said the Commission was involved in the "vote theft" to benefit the BJP. "Votes are being stolen. We have open-and-shut proof that the Election Commission is involved in this vote theft. And I'm not saying this lightly, I'm speaking with 100% proof. And when we release it (proof), the entire country will come to know that the Election Commission is enabling vote theft. And who are they doing it for? They're doing it for the BJP," he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. Mr Gandhi said the Congress had investigated and found enough evidence to constitute an "atom bomb". "We had suspicion of voter theft, and we got into its granularity. Since the Election Commission was not helpful in the investigation, we did our own. It took six months and the things we found are an 'atom bomb' and when this atom bomb explodes, you won't see the Election Commission in the country," the Congress MP said. "Most importantly, whoever in the Elections Commission is involved in this exercise, right from top to bottom, we will not spare you. You are working against India, and this is no less than treason. Wherever you are, even if you are retired, we will find you," he added. 'Threats' In a statement later in the day, the Election Commission said it ignores such "baseless allegations", adding that they were being made on a daily basis. "Despite the daily threats being given, we ask all election officials to ignore such irresponsible statements and work in a fair and transparent manner," the panel said. It pointed out that the Congress leader had been invited to discuss the voter rolls issue, but had not even responded. "EC sends a mail to him 12 June 2025. He does not come. EC sends him a letter on 12 June 2025, he does not respond. He has never sent any letter to EC on any issue whatsoever. It is very strange that he is making wild allegations and has now even started threatening EC and its staff. Deplorable!" it said in the statement. "EC ignores such irresponsible statements and asks all its staff to continue working impartially and transparently," it added. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also objected to Mr Gandhi's claims and accused him of making "anti-India" remarks. "Rahul Gandhi is not a child. He is the Leader of the Opposition. Giving anti-national statements and disrupting Parliament is unacceptable," the Parliamentary Affairs minister said.

1 2 Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday said that the state govt will not allow the Andhra Pradesh to take even a drop of Telangana's deserving water share from the Godavari through the Banakacherla project. Addressing the media after his padayatra in the Andole assembly constituency, Mahesh Goud accused former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao of mortgaging the interests of Telangana to Andhra by allowing the neighbouring state to take up the Banakacherla project. "Is it not KCR and Harish whose signatures during the previous BRS govt allowed AP to take up the Banakacherla project? Protesters in Syria's Druze heartland demand govt forces withdraw
Hundreds gathered in Syria's Druze heartland on Friday to demand the withdrawal of government forces after deadly sectarian violence last month and the opening of an aid corridor from neighbouring Jordan. Sweida province has seen tough humanitarian conditions since week-long clashes killed around 1,400 people last month, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The United Nations says more than 175,000 displaced people have yet to return to their homes. The violence initially pitted Druze fighters against local Sunni Bedouin tribes but rapidly escalated, drawing in Syrian government forces as well as Israel, which bombed them. The Islamist-led interim government said its forces intervened to stop the clashes, but witnesses, Druze factions and the Observatory accused them of siding with the Bedouin and of committing abuses including summary executions. Dozens of protesters, including women and children, gathered in a main square in Sweida, holding placards calling for the opening of a humanitarian corridor from Jordan, an AFP photographer said. Similar protests were held in other Druze towns, according to the Observatory, a Britain-based monitoring group. The government has deployed forces to several parts of Sweida province but not to the provincial capital. Residents accuse them of imposing a blockade, a claim the government has denied, instead blaming "outlaw groups", in reference to Druze fighters. Activist Rawan Abu Assaf said protesters' demands included "lifting the blockade imposed on Sweida province and the withdrawal of government forces from all its villages". The Observatory said the main Damascus-Sweida highway was still cut and accused armed groups linked to the government of blocking the resumption of normal trade. The monitor said the province was under de facto blockade despite the entry of several aid convoys. Interior ministry spokesman Noureddine al-Baba said the convoys gave the lie to Druze claims of a blockade. But the Observatory said the government was just keeping up appearances for the international community. UN humanitarian coordinator Adam Abdelmoula said on Thursday that the United Nations and its partners had sent a new convoy to Sweida province, with 40 trucks carrying "a broad range of life-saving assistance" including food, water and medical supplies. He called it "a significant step toward expanding access and scaling up the humanitarian response in affected areas of southern Syria".
