Legendary children's channel on Sky axed after 17 years

Rhyl Journal24-04-2025
The broadcaster is removing the children's channel POP Max from all platforms on Tuesday, due to its owner Narrative Entertainment UK Limited closing it down.
It first launched in 2008 as Kix before rebranding to POP almost 10 years later in 2017.
Sky aired POP Max and POP Max +1 on Sky Q and Sky+HD, as well as POP Max HD on Sky Glass and Sky Stream.
The channel was a favourite among children, known for showing animated programmes including Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series and Droners.
The move by Sky follows POP Max being taken off Freeview last year, following a shift in digital streaming, reports The Sun.
However, other POP-branded channels, including Tiny POP will remain on Sky, but some are moving as a result of the POP Max closure:
It's reported many of the children's shows that previously aired on POP Max will continue to be available on demand via the free POP Player app.
Other changes coming to Sky from today, according to its website, include Sky Adventure (Satellite 302 - Sky Glass/Stream 302) being renamed to Apocalyptic HD as a temporary change.

Meanwhile, Sky Sci-Fi & Horror (Satellite 311 - Sky Glass/Stream 311) is also being renamed to Sky Horror HD as another temporary change.
Elsewhere, some temporary name changes will be reverted from Tuesday, with Harry Potter (Satellite 306/850 - Sky Glass/Stream 306) renamed back to Sky Family/Sky Family HD and Sky The Hobbit (Satellite 303 - Sky Glass/Stream 303) changing back to Sky Hits/Sky Hits HD.

Lila Moss shows off her figure in leopard print bikini during on vacay with mom Kate

was soaking up the sun with her mom Kate in Formentera this week when she showed off a large white bandage on her bottom. The model, 22, wore a skimpy leopard print bikini while on the beach with Kate, 51, during their summer getaway - her glucose monitor for her type 1 diabetes was also on show. While at the beach one monitor was visible on her arm and her side, while the plaster was placed on the opposite side of her body. A representative for Lila has been contacted by Daily Mail for comment Lila looked stunning in her bandeau bikini as she wrapped a towel around her after taking a refreshing dip in the sea. Meanwhile Kate showed off her youthful figure in a brown triangle bikini and stylish shades as she spent quality time with her daughter. Just last month Lila fronted a new campaign as Barbie launched its first ever 'diabetic doll'. The 'diabetic' doll features a continuous glucose monitor and insulin pump - which Lila has spoken about having to use in the past. The toy company says it made the first Barbie with type 1 diabetes (T1D) so more children could see themselves reflected in their range of dolls. The young model previously discussed her condition during a segment on Vogue's In The Bag YouTube after making the unconventional decision to wear the monitor on the catwalk. She said: 'I have some sugar tablets, in case my blood sugar goes low. I'm diabetic so I have this which controls a pod on my leg, which gives me insulin. 'This is very important to keep in my bag, it comes with me everywhere.' The star - worried her essential device could get lost - added: 'I even have an apple air-tag to follow it around with my phone.' Speaking about her condition in 2020, Lila told The Kit: 'I think not many people know that I have diabetes. It's not visible from the outside, so no one would really know just by looking at you.' Type 1 diabetes causes the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood to become too high. It happens when the body cannot produce enough of a hormone called insulin, which controls blood glucose. Sufferers require daily insulin injections to keep their blood glucose levels under control. Kate has been on a recent health kick after turning her back on her wild partying ways of the past. She was thought to have given up alcohol in 2017 in favor of juice fasts and reformer Pilates, and even started to sell her own range of teas and skincare products through her beauty and wellness brand, Cosmoss. And while she has long struggled to give up her nicotine habit, just two years ago Kate - once hailed the 'greatest smoker of all time' - was seen puffing away on a vape in an attempt to give up the cigarettes.

MotD's Mark Chapman to also host some of Sky's live Premier League coverage

New Match of the Day host Mark Chapman will also front some of Sky Sports' live Premier League football coverage this season. Chapman is one of three new presenters on the BBC's Saturday night highlights show, rotating with Kelly Cates and Gabby Logan, following Gary Lineker's departure at the end of last season. But Sky Sports has announced the 51-year-old, who has presented some of its Carabao Cup matches, is also going to host its Premier League coverage, along with Cates and David Jones. It means Chapman and Cates will have to juggle their commitments to both broadcasters – Chapman is first up in the MOTD hot-seat this coming Saturday evening. But Sky's chief sports officer Jonathan Licht believes the cross-channel pollination will be a hit. 'We're delighted that Mark's joining us alongside Kelly and Dave,' Licht said as he launched Sky's coverage plans for the new season, which will see the broadcaster show a minimum of 215 live Premier League matches. 'Clearly we have more games this season, we needed more presenters. I'm not going to go into all the details of how many games Mark will do, but Mark will work across the Carabao Cup and Premier League. 'He will work weekends, yes, and we'll work with him and Kelly. We're delighted that Kelly is working on Match of the Day next season as well. 'We'll work with both of those to work through our schedule and we've got control of the calendar in terms of the picking of the matches. We're all adults and we'll see how it goes. 'It's clearly new territory, but we're looking forward to having everybody on board.' Sky Sports have also rebranded 'Super Sunday' to 'Supersized Super Sunday', as when one or more matches are moved to a Sunday due to European competitions, they will all be shown live with a multi-view option available. Sunday's coverage will end with a new analysis show, 'Extra Time', hosted by former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.
