DVS investigates animal deaths on Penang Hill as suspected poisoning case unfolds
Its director Dr Saira Banu Mohamed Rejab said the samples have been sent to the Penang DVS laboratory for further analysis, including to determine whether the animals were poisoned.
'Penang DVS officers are conducting further investigations, including taking samples from the carcasses and sending them to our laboratory. So far, no other materials have been found at the site, as the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has already cleaned the area.'Based on our investigation, the incident occurred on July 5, and the carcasses had already undergone autolysis (decomposition), making them unsuitable for a post-mortem. However, our officers will still proceed with further analysis,' she told Bernama when contacted today.The Penang Hill Corporation yesterday reported that several animals, including dogs, cats and birds, were found dead, believed to have consumed poisoned food in the Penang Hill area. — Bernama

Woman arrested over alleged abuse of adopted son in Jelebu
SEREMBAN: Police have arrested a woman to assist in investigations into the alleged abuse of her 13-year-old adopted child in Kuala Klawang, Jelebu. Jelebu district police chief Supt Azizan Said said a Social Welfare Department officer lodged a report on the incident involving the Form One student via Talian Kasih. He said the 35-year-old suspect, who has two biological children aged five years and seven months, respectively, was arrested on June 16. "Initial investigations revealed that the victim has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), is categorised as a person with a disability, and has been under the suspect's care since he was six. "The boy said he would be beaten if he was late or failed to follow instructions. The victim also complained that he was frequently shouted at, cursed at, and hit with objects like clothes hangers," he said in a statement on Monday (July 7). Azizan said the victim also claimed he was beaten with the metal extension tube of a vacuum cleaner, resulting in bruises on several parts of his body, including the elbow, wrist and back, while getting ready for his school sports day on June 14. He said the department later rescued the boy after it received an email from a woman reporting a case of child abuse at the house. According to him, the victim was taken to Jelebu Hospital for examination, and a medical report confirmed that the injuries were caused by a blunt rod-shaped object and were believed to have been sustained within three days prior to the check-up. Azizan said police were still waiting for the full medical report and that further investigations were ongoing to determine whether the injuries were due to abuse or resulted from the victim's hyperactive behaviour. The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has extended his condolences to the relatives of a family of six who were discovered deceased in a submerged car in Sungai Korok, near Jitra, Kedah. Ahmad Zahid described the incident as deeply distressing, particularly as it involved young children. 'I was heartbroken when I heard the news about the tragedy that befell a family of six who were found in a submerged vehicle in Sungai Korok, Alor Setar this morning,' he said in a Facebook post. He urged the bereaved family to remain strong and called for prayers for the departed souls. The Deputy Prime Minister also commended the efforts of emergency responders, including the fire brigade, police, and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), in handling the search and recovery operations. The victims were identified as Mohamad Azim Izat Ishak, 32, his wife Nurul Hidayah Khadijah Razman Efendi, 31, and their four children aged between six months and nine years. Mother and boyfriend remanded over fatal baby abuse
ALOR GAJAH: A 24-year-old woman and her 20-year-old boyfriend have been remanded for seven days by the Alor Gajah Magistrate's Court following the suspected fatal abuse of her 15-month-old baby girl. The incident reportedly occurred at a shop premises in Bandar Satelit, Pulau Sebang. According to a source, the victim was brought unconscious to Tampin Hospital around 11 pm by her mother and was later confirmed dead. A preliminary examination revealed bruises on the baby's abdomen, back, and anus, leading the hospital to file a police report. Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed the report and stated that both suspects were detained to assist in investigations. 'The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,' he said in a statement today. – Bernama
