The committee comprises four cabinet ministers as members — Prithiviraj Harichandan (law), Mukesh Mahaling (health), Krushna Chandra Mahapatra (housing and urban development) and Bibhuti Bhusan Jena (commerce and transport). Law secretary Manas Ranjan Barik has been appointed as the convener, with Parida serving as the chairperson.
"The committee's mandate includes supervising and guiding government-level arrangements for Rath Yatra, which anticipates attendance exceeding 10 lakh devotees.
Smooth conduct of rituals, proper crowd management and convenience of devotees will be the focus areas," a senior govt official said.
The govt is taking comprehensive measures, including plans to extend invitations to the President, Prime Minister, Union ministers and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states for the annual festival. The celebrations will take place two weeks after the BJP govt in Odisha marks its first anniversary on June 12, an occasion expected to draw prominent BJP members, including PM Narendra Modi. "We will leave nothing to chance to ensure inter-departmental coordination for an incident-free Rath Yatra celebration," the official said.
Sources said the committee is likely to visit Puri in a day or two to oversee the preparations and discuss with various stakeholders as well as servitors of the Jagannath Temple.

You Did Well, Jaishankar Tells Multi-Party Teams On Return To India As Leaders Share Feedback

Last Updated: Sources said the delegations told Jaishankar that they were received well and the countries were willing to listen to India's side of the story On Friday, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar met two delegations that have returned from the multi-country visits—one led by NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule and the other by NDA alliance partner Shiv Sena's parliamentary party leader Shrikant Shinde—the youngest amongst all the delegate leaders. The Sule-led delegation visited countries like South Africa, Ethiopia, and Egypt, while those on Shinde's list were UAE, followed by countries like Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Sources said Jaishankar was told that many countries that they went to want India to sit across the table and have a dialogue with Pakistan. Some countries have even asked why India did not take a stand on the escalation between several other countries. It is learnt that the members explained to these countries that it was not possible to speak to Pakistan because it cannot be trusted due to its policy to support terror. The delegations expressed how they were made to feel welcome, and people in these countries were willing to listen to India's side of the story. It is also learnt that the delegation told the minister that there is more need for better communication with these countries so that India can present its view. It would not be fair to judge them assuming that they would be supporting Pakistan by virtue of being a Muslim nation. Through these visits, the countries also said India should seek deeper engagement with them, not just in trade and commerce, but on other softer issues like culture, tourism etc. The delegation also gave feedback to the government that it was important to have better dialogue and engage with Western media to be able to explain India's narrative better. The Shinde team, on the other hand, had a much better engagement. A moment of silence in the memory of those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam attack was observed in Sierra Leone and Liberia. In fact, in Liberia, it was done in Parliament and Shinde was asked to speak at the podium. Jaishankar expressed satisfaction with the interaction of the teams to these countries, which have often been dismissed as insignificant, but will have a role to play in the future. 'These countries are not very prominent for many looking at it from a world view, but the kind of narrative that you have been able to bring back home. It is a great service to the country," the minister is said to have told the delegation. The delegation led by Shinde also expressed sentiments of the people of these countries who wanted better trade relations with India. The potential for investment and better trade could certainly be explored with deeper engagement, they said. Jaishankar was also told that Liberia, for example, has been looking out for a space to have its consulate in India. India is a great importer of rubber and rubber-related goods for which markets in these African countries can also be explored. These African countries can also be a great investment sector for mining, the delegation expressed. The delegation also added that there was a huge appreciation for India's role in UN peacekeeping and the kind of support India gave to these countries during Covid-19 by providing vaccines and other essential medicines, which is deeply appreciated. So far, five delegation members out of seven have met Jaishankar and shared the detailed feedback that they have been able to gather in their multi-party visits across many countries. The remaining two delegations from Ravi Shankar Prasad's team and Shashi Tharoor's team are likely to meet the minister some time next week. Some members have also submitted a detailed written report and note for the government of India to consider. A total of seven delegations, comprising 55 members—including MPs, former diplomats, and former Union ministers—were dispatched to 38 countries to explain India's stand on terrorism. These delegations were led by prominent leaders such as Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, NCP(SP)'s Supriya Sule, BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda, Shiv Sena's Srikant Shinde, DMK's Kanimozhi, and JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha.

Tipra Motha demands immediate detection, deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Tripura

The Tipra Motha – a constituent of the ruling BJP-led alliance – has demanded the detection and deportation of all illegal migrants from Bangladesh residing in Tripura. A four-member delegation of the party, led by MLA Ranjit Debbarma, met Governor N Indrasena Reddy and raised the demand on Friday. 'We met the Governor today. The issue is that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has stipulated a 30-day timeframe to start the process of detection and deportation of illegal migrants in Tripura. In other states, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Assam, the process has already started. We have demanded that the process be started in Tripura too,' Debbarma told reporters after meeting Governor Reddy. He added that a similar kind of notification was also issued in 2017. The Tipra Motha leader said that not only the illegal migrants, but also those providing shelter to them, must be brought under the purview of the law. Earlier, Debbarma wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals, urging him to push them back. The Twipra Students' Federation (TSF) has also demanded that the government start the process of detecting and deporting Bangladeshi migrants staying illegally in the state. 'We have seen that other states are doing it. But the Tripura government is silent. We appeal to the government to take strong initiative regarding the notification. We have started the 'clean and drive illegal migrants mission' from today,' Hamal Jamatia, General Secretary, TSF, said. As per a report of the Tripura Police, 816 Bangladeshi nationals, 79 Rohingya persons, and two Nigerians were arrested between January 1, 2024, and February 28 this year for staying illegally in Tripura. A further breakup of the data shows that 483 illegal foreigners were arrested from August 5, 2024, when the Sheikh Hasina government fell in Bangladesh.

"India received great response from world": Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh on Op Sindoor outreach campaign

New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu and member of the all-party delegation led by BJP MP Baijyant Panda said that India received a 'great' response from the world during the operation Sindoor outreach campaign. Satnam Singh, part of the all-party delegation that visited Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria, said that New Delhi gave a very precise response to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives via Operation Sindoor. '... In one month, India gave a very precise response in a very short time. PM Narendra Modi had promised that as part of our zero tolerance policy, whoever attacks India, we will give a befitting response. That is exactly what Indian forces did and destroyed nine terror camps in Pakistan. Retaliation and counter-retaliation followed. Prime Minister did what he said,' the Rajya Sabha MP told ANI. 'We completed such a big campaign on an international level. Our global outreach has been completed, and our teams have returned. India has received a great response from the world,' he added. The delegation, led by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, also includes Nishikant Dubey MP, BJP; Phangnon Konyak, MP, BJP; Rekha Sharma MP, NJP; AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi; Satnam Singh Sandhu MP; Ghulam Nabi Azad; and former India's Ambassador to the US Harsh Shringla. The delegation briefed international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism while engaging with leaders in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria. The multi-party delegation, consisting of seven groups led by one MP each, has been initiated to counter global misinformation and highlight India's zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. Earlier, All-Party Delegation member Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that there is a clarity of thought among partner countries regarding Pakistan's association with terrorism. Sandhu told ANI that there is also concern about the developing access between China and Pakistan. 'There is a clear thinking about Pakistan's association with terrorism... The role of the Pakistan Army, that they yield the real power... There is a clarity of thought that the Pakistan Army creates tensions abroad to establish its legitimacy back home. People in the United States are pretty clear on China... People were concerned about the developing access between China and Pakistan... Pakistan must be mindful because, irrespective of their propaganda, the reality will catch up to bite them,' Sandhu said. He added that in all the countries that they visited, the countries wanted to establish ties with India. There was a clear contrast between our development-orientated approach and whatever Pakistan is giving them. 'Across all four countries, there was a clear clamour for having a strong economic relationship with India. One common theme was that they wanted IITs to be established. There is a clear contrast between our development-orientated approach and whatever Pakistan is giving them... In all these countries, there was a desire to deepen their existing economic partnership with India further... Connecting with them and making our case, especially on terrorism, made a lot of sense to them, and they strongly supported our position,' Sandhu told ANI. All-Party Delegation Leader and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor held discussions with the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee on strengthening the India-US strategic partnership, regional security, and global cooperation.
