Dehradun: A
Sanjeevani air ambulance
deployed by
AIIMS-Rishikesh
crash-landed near the Kedarnath helipad after its tail hit the ground during landing around 11:50am on Saturday. The three onboard — the pilot, a doctor, and nursing staff — escaped unhurt.
The air ambulance had been dispatched to airlift Sridevi, who was suffering from acute respiratory distress.
District tourism officer Rahul Choubey, also the helicopter services in-charge for Kedarnath, said, "We requested AIIMS-Rishikesh for an air ambulance. Due to a technical issue, the helicopter couldn't land at the helipad and attempted a landing in the adjacent ground, where the tail broke off." He said a technical probe will be conducted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to determine the cause.
An AIIMS-Rishikesh press note quoted medical superintendent professor Dr B Satya Sree and heli ambulance nodal officer Dr Madhur Uniyal as saying, "On May 17, 2025, at 11:05am, a Sanjeevani Heli Ambulance aircraft departed for Kedarnath Dham. The helicopter carried a pilot, an emergency medicine doctor, and a nursing officer. Around 11:50am, it made a touchdown before landing. Fortunately, all three—pilot, doctor, and nurse—are unharmed.
"
The Sanjeevani air ambulance has been provided to AIIMS-Rishikesh by a private firm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had virtually inaugurated the initiative on Oct 29, terming it the country's first free helicopter
emergency medical service
. Under the '
Sanjeevani Yojana
', the programme was launched to provide rapid, life-saving medical support to accident victims and patients in difficult terrains.
A post from the official X handle of the Rudraprayag district magistrate stated, "A major accident was averted due to the pilot's presence of mind.
A Sanjeevani helicopter ambulance arriving for the rescue of a female devotee at Kedarnath had to make an emergency landing due to a technical fault. The pilot acted promptly and landed safely before reaching the main helipad. All onboard are safe. DGCA will conduct a technical investigation.
"
This is the third chopper-related incident reported in Uttarakhand over the last 10 days. On May 8, a helicopter carrying Char Dham pilgrims crashed near Gangnani on the Gangotri route in Uttarkashi district, killing six and seriously injuring one. On May 13, a chopper blade hit a parked vehicle at Badrinath, after which the operator, Thambi Aviation, was temporarily grounded. The helicopter had brought pilgrims from Phata and the mishap occurred during take-off.

AIIMS, Harvard gastroenterologist ranks 6 common foods for gut health: Fermented foods score highest

Maintaining good gut health is essential for digestion, immunity, and overall well-being. What you eat plays a huge role in keeping your digestive system happy and balanced. Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a California-based gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford Universities, recently shared an Instagram post ranking common foods that support gut health and promote optimal digestion. Let's take a look: A post shared by Saurabh Sethi (@ Leading the list, fermented foods like yoghurt, kimchi, and sauerkraut are rich in probiotics which is a beneficial bacteria that help balance your gut microbiome. These bananas are high in resistant starch, a type of prebiotic fibre that feeds the good bacteria in your gut. It promotes a healthy gut lining and can help regulate blood sugar levels. Slightly green bananas offer more gut benefits than their ripe counterparts. A great source of soluble fibre, oats help keep your digestive system running smoothly. Fibre promotes regular bowel movements and provides nourishment for healthy gut bacteria, reducing the risk of constipation and inflammation. While still beneficial, ripe bananas contain less resistant starch but provide important nutrients and some fibre. They are gentle on the stomach and can help soothe digestive issues, though they rank lower than green bananas for gut benefits. White bread is low in fibre and nutrients compared to whole grain alternatives. It offers minimal support for gut health and digestion and can sometimes contribute to blood sugar spikes, making it a less ideal choice for maintaining a healthy gut. At the bottom of the list, bacon's high saturated fat and preservative content can negatively affect the gut microbiome. Processed meats like bacon may increase inflammation and disrupt digestion, making them detrimental to gut health when consumed frequently. ‘It takes less than 2 minutes to make': Alaya F starts her day with this gut-cleansing detox water, suggests having it on an empty stomach

Alaya F is a self-proclaimed health and wellness enthusiast, and her social media is a journal of her experiments and tips. In a recent Instagram post, the Jawaani Jaaneman actor shared her go-to morning detox drink, which promises great benefits. 'What if I told you that this little morning drink helps my gut, clears my skin, boosts my metabolism, and gets rid of bloating?🤔🌸✨ (And it takes less than 2 minutes to make!!) I have this drink every single morning and I swear by it!🤍,' she said in a video. Here's how you can make it: Ingredients: warm water 2 tsp soaked chia seeds 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice 2 tsp apple cider vinegar 1 tsp honey 'Pour some warm water in a glass, add a tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar, 2 teaspoons of soaked chia seeds, and a teaspoon of honey. Stir it and enjoy,' she walked us through the recipe in the video. Mentioning three critical points to remember, Alaya added: – Have it on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning – Make sure the water is warm, not boiling – Consistency is key, have this regularly for the best results reached out to health experts to understand the benefits of starting your mornings with this concoction: Kanikka Malhotra, consultant dietician and certified diabetes educator, tells 'Drinking honey-lemon water in the morning can support weight loss, aid digestion, and promote hydration. Replacing high-calorie drinks with honey-lemon water can reduce overall calorie intake, potentially leading to weight loss.' Increased water intake can boost metabolism and create a feeling of fullness, which helps shed pounds, she added. According to her, lemon juice encourages the production of digestive juices, and honey acts as a prebiotic, supporting beneficial gut flora. Moreover, the drink's hydrating properties can prevent constipation and promote regular bowel movements. According to Dr Bimal Chhajer, Cardiologist, former consultant at AIIMS, and founder of SAAOL Heart Institute, consumption of raw honey, instead of added sugar, can help lower fasting blood glucose and the amount of bad cholesterol present in the blood because honey is a natural substance found in nature. It is unprocessed, without any preservatives or chemicals. 'Consuming 35-45 grams of unprocessed honey in a day, be it through tea, raw, or any other way, can lead to several beneficial effects on the human body,' he added. Malhotra said chia seeds are full of fibre, which helps keep the stomach healthy. 'Eating chia seeds daily can help regulate your bowel movements if you struggle with constipation. Chia seeds provide a slow release of energy, keeping you active throughout the day,' she said, adding that they contain protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates, which help maintain energy levels. These seeds also expand in your stomach and make you feel full for a longer time, which can prevent overeating and help with weight control. According to her, it is always a good idea to kick-start your day with some apple cider vinegar. It helps balance the pH of the gut and aids in digestion. It also helps flush out toxins from the body. Adding a pinch of honey enhances the flavour and nutritional benefits of the drink.
