Thanks to Shohei Ohtani, These Are the Japanese Food and Drinks to Try at Dodger Stadium

Eater7 days ago

Even with the fanfare surrounding Shohei Ohtani's move from the Angels to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023, few predicted the season-altering force he would become. Many call it the Ohtani Effect, especially after the team won the 2024 World Series. When Ohtani comes to bat, cheers erupt through Chavez Ravine, with fans clamoring to catch a home run. TV ratings are up for Dodgers games, the number of Japanese tourists flying in to watch the Dodgers play has increased, and as of March 2025, Major League Baseball jerseys bearing the name 'Ohtani' are the most popular on earth.
But the Ohtani effect extends beyond just the scoreboard. Dodger Stadium has embraced the popularity of the Japan-born star, along with pitchers Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki, expanding its Japanese concessions to reflect the increased interest '[Ohtani] has brought new fans,' Dodgers CEO Stan Kasten told MLB.com. 'He's changed the mix of demographics at our stadium for games. We have changed some of the merchandise [and] some of the concession offerings.'
Below are some of the existing and expanded Japanese options at Dodger Stadium for the 2025 season.
Field Level The 2025 season introduced an LA-ified chicken katsu double-decker sandwich that uses Texas toast, Kewpie mayonnaise, creamy avocado, arugula, and applewood bacon. Find it on the Field Level near Section 8.
In 2024, the Tokyo-based Tsukiji Gindaco and the Dodgers formed a partnership that introduced traditional takoyaki in Section 45. The savory octopus ball is filled with green onion, pickled ginger, and tempura. It's also a staple at baseball stadiums throughout Japan, including the Tokyo Dome. In the era of Ohtani, the stand also serves a takoyaki sauce-flavored Dodger Dog.
In Field 8, shockingly good sushi is served at Delicious Hospitality. Is it more comparable to retail (read: grocery store) sushi? Absolutely. But quite good for what's being offered at one of the nation's last standing original ballparks. Japanese chicken katsu curry with steamed rice is served at the Field Level Cantina, Right Field Entrance, and the Reserve Level. During Japanese Heritage Night on April 28, the culinary team prepared a beef teriyaki bowl and a multi-layered wanpaku sandwich.
Head to Section 8 for Delicious Hospitality's miso ginger chopped salad, or the hearty home run platter with teriyaki chicken skewers, steamed rice, dumplings, and shishito peppers.
Reserve Level At Fan Fare in Sections 4 and 31, you can find a Kurobuta teriyaki mayo hot dog.
Centerfield Plaza Tons of options are in Section 5's LA Feeds Blue with rotating specials like the Kurobuta pork sausage dogs, Kurobuta yakisoba dogs, miso ginger salad, and a chicken katsu bowl.
Loge Level In the centerfield loge courtyard's Section 165, find Think Blue Craft Beer Bar for Nikaido shochu cocktails.
One of the most refreshing cocktails in the entire park is an off-menu item. Ask any Loge Bar (Section 160) bartender for the Nikaido Highball with Nikaido Oita Mugi Shochu, yuzu, and a splash of soda.
Top Deck Order the Kurobuta terimayo dog on the Top Deck at Section 5.
Shochu Nikaido and the Dodgers partnered in early 2025 to make the Japanese distilled beverage the official shochu of the team. Nikaido's shochu is made with barley and can be found throughout the ballpark (see the map below).

Francisco Lindor Had Shohei Ohtani Message After Dodgers' Loss to Mets originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets began a four-game series on Monday night in LA. This is a rematch of the 2024 National League Championship Series that Los Angeles won in six games. Going on to win the World Series, the Dodgers added even more talent in the offseason. Advertisement Also retooling this past winter, headlined by the historic signing of Juan Soto, New York continued to build around its core that features Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and other integral pieces. This series also features the top-two National League MVP vote getters from last season. Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani won the award unanimously, with Lindor coming in second place. Lindor led off the game with his home run, while Ohtani left the yard in the seventh inning. Both homers were impressive, with Ohtani's traveling 424 feet and Lindor's traveling 417 feet from home. Advertisement Speaking with reporters after the game, Lindor mentioned the distance on Ohtani's home run, joking it must have went 40 feet further than his. 'I hit it with everything I had,' Lindor said of his leadoff blast. 'Not as far as Ohtani. Ohtani's was probably 40 feet further than mine. But they count the same.' As it turns out, Ohtani's went just seven feet further, and both were solo shots. Both players added RBIs later in the game, but it was Lindor's Mets who edged out Ohtani's Dodgers 4-3 in extra innings to take the first game of this series. Dodgers Star Shohei Ohtani Reacts to Major Aaron Judge News

Dodgers Star Shohei Ohtani Reacts to Major Aaron Judge News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the New York Mets on Monday night, but it was another impressive game for two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, who hit his MLB-leading 23rd home run of the season. Additionally, the three-time league MVP tied the game for Los Angeles in the ninth inning with a sacrifice fly, his 39th RBI of the season. Advertisement June has started well for Ohtani, which follows a torrid May in which he slugged 15 home runs and posted an incredible 1.180 OPS. In response to this, MLB named Ohtani its National League Player of the Month for May, joining New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge who won the award in the American League. Judge and Ohtani are the reigning league MVPs, each winning the award unanimously in their respective leagues last season. The two superstars also faced off in the 2024 World Series that Los Angeles won in five games. Reacting to the news that he and Judge had been named Player of the Month, Ohtani made a post on his Instagram story: Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani posts on his / Instagram There is a lot of mutual respect between Ohtani and Judge. This was on display in a recent three-game series between the Yankees and Dodgers. Advertisement "I thought he was copying me," Judge joked after Ohtani followed his first inning home run with one of his own (via Bob Nightengale of USA Today). 'He's impressive. He's one of the best players in the game for a reason." Both Ohtani and Judge could very well win MVP again this season. Yankees' key reliever eyes return this week after ‘great' bullpen session

Fernando Cruz had been one of the Yankees' best relievers this season, striking out 37.6% of batters faced with a 2.66 ERA in 21 appearances with the team, and he could be rejoining the team soon. After feeling a snag in his throwing shoulder during a loss against the Mets, Cruz would be placed on the 15-day IL as a precautionary measure to ensure things healed well. Advertisement Eligible to be activated off the IL soon, the Yankees could be getting a huge upgrade for their bullpen as the right-hander felt great in his live bullpen session at Dodger Stadium. With his velocity unaffected and the recovery after the session going well, Fernando Cruz presents a significant upgrade for a group that has been battered over the weekend. Fernando Cruz Could Join the Yankees in Upcoming Homestand Credit: Brad Penner-Imagn Images The Yankees' bullpen desperately needs some help after this tough series against the Dodgers, and Fernando Cruz is a nice light at the end of the tunnel for them. In just two games, the Yankees' team ERA has ballooned to 3.61, which is eighth in baseball and sixth in the American League. Advertisement Cruz's strikeout stuff is exactly what the team needs right now, as the right-hander was seventh in K% among qualified relievers (37.6%). After throwing his bullpen session and reporting zero issues with his velocity or command, the Yankees could activate him ahead of this upcoming homestand. In Cincinnati, the right-hander struggled to limit damage contact and avoid free passes, but this year he has been utterly dominant. Advertisement Following the team's final west coast trip, they return to the Bronx to host the Cleveland Guardians for a three-game set, a team eager to win the season series after winning two of three against New York in April. The Yankees conclude this road trip on Sunday Night Baseball against the Dodgers, with Ryan Yarbrough matching up against Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
