Sharks call on Lucky Am to bolster Bok stocks for Munster showdown
Head coach John Plumtree has rung the changes ahead of the high-stakes clash, making five key adjustments to the side that secured victory over Scarlets in the final round of pool play.
In the forward pack, Jason Jenkins returns to the starting Sharks' XV, swapping places with Emile van Heerden in the second row. James Venter also reclaims his place in the starting lineup, recovering from a neck injury sustained against the Ospreys to replace Tino Mavesere at flank.
The biggest name returning for the Sharks, however, is two-time Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok captain Siya Kolisi. After sitting out the Scarlets game due to national team rest protocols, Kolisi is back at No. 8, taking over from Phepsi Buthelezi, who shifts to the bench.
The backline sees two major inclusions, with flyhalf Jordan Hendrikse stepping in for the injured Siya Masuku and Lukhanyo Am returning at outside centre. Am, another double World Cup winner, will make his 100th international appearance for the Sharks, replacing Jurenzo Julius, who is a surprise omission from the match-day squad.
Sharks captain Eben Etzebeth believes the tight encounters leading up to the playoffs have been ideal preparation for the pressure-cooker environment of knockout rugby.
'We've won a few close games this year, which is something we weren't doing last season,' Etzebeth said. 'Those experiences give us confidence. Hopefully we won't need to make it that close again on Saturday, but if we do, we're ready.'
Etzebeth is also under no illusions about the challenge posed by Munster.
'They're a top-quality side. Discipline and kicking will probably be the difference on the day—it's going to be very close.'
Despite injuries and Springbok rest policies, several rising stars have stepped up. Plumtree has praised the squad depth, highlighting standout performances from players like Ethan Hooker and a consistently strong front row off the bench.
'A lot of our young guys have grown this season. The more they play, the more confident they get—and they've shown they can perform at this level,' he said.
Kick-off for the quarter-final clash is scheduled for 6:30 PM on Saturday at Hollywoodbets Kings Park.

Kaizer Chiefs injury update: Three key defenders
Kaizer Chiefs have given the latest update on three of their defenders ahead of the Richards Bay match. Amakhosi host the Natal Rich Boys at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening in a Betway Premiership clash. With head coach Nasreddine Nabi still in his home country over a family emergency, his assistant Khalil Ben Youssef has taken over. The young coach has given an update on Given Msimango, Rushwin Dortley and Zita Kwiniak. 'I think with Dortley, he keeps working with our medical staff. They did a very good job with him,' Ben Youssef told the media. 'Soon, I think few weeks, he will be back with us, he and Given [Msimango] will start training sessions with the team. I think last season, it was tough for us when we finished the season. We finished, let me say the last three games without a defender on the bench. Given was injured, Zitha [Kwinika] was injured, and Dortley was injured, then we promoted Aiden [McCarthy] to play the last two games. Kaizer Chiefs are yet to concede this season, having kept two clean sheets so far. 'This season we start with Given and Dortley out, for sure, when they will be back, they will help the team with the experience they have, and also with confidence. They will fight for this position now. I think Aiden with [Inacio] Miguel, they perform very well, Zitha is coming, he is ready. 'Now they will be back, and it's confidence. And we know when we have a lot of players, the level of the players begins to increase,' Ben Youssef concluded. Kaizer Chiefs have signed eight players so far this season. #FishEagle: Shad and garrick fire as sardine run resurges
Large shoals of sardines at Port Edward and Margate proved that reports of this year's run ending were premature. Alongside other baitfish, the sardines were spotted close inshore on Friday, accompanied by flocks of diving birds, a promising sign for anglers. Their return capped off a successful week for rock and surf anglers across the KZN coastline, before a brisk north-easterly wind moved in over the weekend. Shad were caught in good numbers at first light and are expected to remain plentiful until the season closes in September. Anglers report that the shad are feeding in the dark and disappearing with the first hint of daylight. North-easterly winds are forecast to continue this week, a favourable condition for shad chasers. Brusher were also on the bite along both the South Coast and lower North Coast, with local anglers finding fruitful sessions at Tongaat, Ballito and Salt Rock. Targeting this hard-fighting species requires patience, but can be highly rewarding. Many anglers also hooked some large stumpie while targeting brusher. It's been a strong winter for salmon species, with Tugela Mouth proving particularly productive. Daga salmon, shoal kob and snapper salmon were all reported in numbers, drawn to the area's offshore prawn banks. Garrick and shad were also caught regularly at Tugela last week, with the spot currently firing on all cylinders. Garrick were similarly popular on the lower South Coast, and at Zimbali and Chaka's High Rock on the North Coast. A variety of live baits – including karranteen, blacktail, pinkies and small shad – have all proven effective. Offshore anglers have had mixed conditions over recent weeks, with strong currents and rough seas alternating with calmer spells. However, the reefs have delivered consistently and several catches will live long in the memory. A few big musselcracker were landed off Durban, along with two trophy-sized copper steenbras weighing in at 45kg and 24kg. Bottom fishing continues to deliver a variety of red species, including soldier bream, Englishman and rockcod, as well as an increasing frequency of daga salmon. Half-kob are still being caught in certain areas, while anglers able to venture into deeper water have been rewarded with geelbek salmon. North-easterly winds this week will likely bring choppy seas, and surf launches may be tricky. Stay in the loop with The North Coast Courier on Facebook, X, Instagram & YouTube for the latest news. Siya Kolisi will now only reach 100-cap milestone next year
Siya Kolisi missed the first part of the 2025 season due to an injury, but he recovered to feature against Georgia and in this past weekend's Test against Australia, taking his total of Test caps to 94. ADVERTISEMENT Kolisi unfortunately suffered a knee injury in Saturday's clash against Ellis Park, though, and he may only return in time to feature in the final two Tests of the Rugby Championship. The Springboks are expected to finish the year with five Tests, but it's highly unlikely that Kolisi would feature against Japan (this fixture is also still to be confirmed), nor against Wales. As it is, Rassie Erasmus generally attempts to ensure that special occasions such as a 100-cap milestone can be celebrated by the player in question during a Test on home soil. So this iconic moment will almost certainly now be deferred to next year, but Kolisi does look to be next in line to reach the centurion club for the Springboks, while Damian de Allende (89 caps) and Pieter-Steph du Toit (89) are not far behind. ADVERTISEMENT According to the Springboks are set to face Japan in Brighton on 1 November in what will effectively serve as a 'warm-up' to the end-of-year tour. REMINDER OF THE REMAINING SPRINGBOK SCHEDULE FOR 2020 AS SIYA KOLISI BEGINS NEW INJURY REHAB: 23 August: vs Australia, DHL Stadium, Cape Town.
