MAN KILLED AFTER 4WD CRASHES IN PORT DICKSON
PORT DICKSON, May 21 (Bernama) – A man was killed when the four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle he was driving lost control and crashed at kilometre 2.8 of Jalan Pantai here today.
Port Dickson police chief Supt Maslan Udin said in the 2.30 am accident, the 33-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.
He said the front seat passenger, in his 30s, sustained minor injuries.
"Preliminary investigations revealed they were travelling from Port Dickson to Kuala Lumpur. Upon reaching the location, the vehicle lost control, overturned, and spun several times before crashing into an electric pole, which broke upon impact.
"The vehicle veered off and struck a fence, causing the driver to be thrown from the vehicle and entangled in the fencing, he said in a statement tonight.
Maslan said the driver did not have a valid driving license and had four prior offences related to drugs and crime.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Border wall proposed to plug smuggling loopholes in Kelantan
KOTA BARU: A permanent wall or fence along the Kelantan–Thailand border is viewed as the most effective solution to combat persistent smuggling activities in the state, said Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat. He said the 45-kilometre border stretch remains too exposed, making comprehensive enforcement challenging. "For that entire stretch, we have only eight control posts. Naturally, many gaps continue to be exploited by smugglers," he said. "In my opinion, only the construction of a complete border wall can effectively address this issue," he told reporters at a press conference held in conjunction with the Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department's (NCID) 2025 Case Disposal event at the state police headquarters here today. Yusoff added that the proposal to construct the wall had been submitted to the relevant authorities some time ago. He also noted a shift in drug trafficking trends in Kelantan, with smugglers now preferring to bring in smaller quantities compared to the large consignments seen previously. This change, he said, followed tighter enforcement and restrictions on cross-border movement through illegal entry points along Sungai Golok. "Previously, we made large seizures. Now, traffickers are more cautious and smuggle in smaller amounts. Still, yaba pills remain the most in-demand drug in the state," he said. – BERNAMA

Hailing from Debak, Gilberd, who is Bukit Aman Logistics and Technology Department (JLog) Deputy Director Technical/Operations, takes over from Datuk Seri Sahabudin Abd Manan, who retired after 37 years of service in the force. The handing-over-of-duty ceremony was held at the Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Hasim Hall, Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol) today and was witnessed by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. Ayob Khan, in his speech, described Sahabudin, who led JLog with commitment and integrity for almost four years since July 5, 2021, as a highly credible person. 'Throughout his 37 years of service, he has held various strategic positions at the contingent and department levels, namely the Kedah and Penang contingents, the Department of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) and the Logistics Department. 'The effectiveness of his leadership also enabled various initiatives by other departments to be realised towards improving the force's service delivery inclusively,' he was quoted as saying by Bernama. Ayob Khan said that among JLog's proud achievements under Sahabudin's leadership was the development of the SMART Lockup system, which won the Asia Pacific Enterprise Innovation Award 2015. It was developed in collaboration with Mosti and Mimos. PJ police unleash drones to crack down on motorcycle lane violations
PETALING JAYA: Errant motorcycle riders beware, as PJ police are using drones for the first time, looking out for riders who did not use the designated motorcycle lanes along the Federal Highway. Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said the operation, which was conducted along KM28.4 of the highway on Wednesday (June 11), focused on reducing the number of accidents involving motorcyclists, especially fatal ones along the Federal Highway. "We are cooperating with the Police Air Unit (PGU) for the operation by using drones. "Once the offender is spotted on the drone, they will be issued summonses on the spot. "For the few exceptions that might have escaped, we would have already recorded their registration numbers, and summonses will be sent directly to their homes," he told reporters during the operation on Wednesday. He urged motorcycle riders to use the designated lanes to lessen the risks of being involved in accidents and other hazards. "I understand riders do not prefer to use the lanes as they are less than desirable, as some parts of the motorcycle lanes could be dark at night, while if it rains, such areas might also be flooded. "Our operation is conducted during peak hours during the day, especially in the morning," he said. A total of 47 summonses were issued for various offences, he said. "Some 16 offences were detected using drones," he said. Within 30 minutes, 32 summonses were issued during the operation, he said. "Most of the summonses were issued to riders not using the designated motorcycle lanes under Section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said, adding that some 16km of the highway was under the jurisdiction of PJ police. He stated that the operation aimed to enforce laws and raise awareness among road users, particularly motorcyclists, about the importance of complying with traffic regulations. "We are focusing on motorcycle riders, as 70% of fatal accidents in the district involved them. "We will continue to conduct such operations using drones from time to time," he said.
