KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- The crude palm oil (CPO) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives is expected to trade higher next week, tracking the rise of rival oils such as soybean and crude.
Palm oil trader David Ng said soybean and crude oil prices have risen due to heightened tensions in the Middle East, making palm oil more attractive, which will boost demand for the golden commodity.
'We expect prices to remain strong, driven by persistent demand from key buyers such as China and India, which should help lift market sentiment,' he told Bernama.
Ng projected that CPO prices will trade between RM3,850 per tonne and RM4,000 per tonne next week.
Fastmarkets Palm Oil Analytics senior analyst Dr Sathia Varqa said market participants will be closely watching Malaysia's palm oil export performance for June 1-15 and next week as the data could provide fresh leads for the market.
On a Friday-to-Friday basis, the spot-month June 2025 contract shed RM64 to RM3,847 per tonne and July 2025 slid RM5 to RM3,925. The August 2025 note added RM10 to RM3,927 per tonne, September 2025 rose RM16 to RM3,922, October 2025 increased RM15 to RM3,914, and November 2025 went up RM11 to RM3,910.
The weekly trading volume advanced to 339,415 lots from 290,679 lots the previous week, while open interest edged up to 244,432 contracts from 241,688 contracts.
The physical CPO price for June South remained unchanged at RM3,960 per tonne.

Hup Seng cautious on 2H25 amid rising raw material costs

KUALA LUMPUR: Hup Seng Industries Bhd will maintain a cautious stance for the second half of 2025 amid continuing geopolitical uncertainties. The food and beverage company noted that key raw materials costs remained sensitive to supply and regulatory developments, with upward price pressures anticipated 'Nevertheless, the group will continue to focus on operational efficiency to help mitigate the impact of rising costs and will closely monitor market conditions to remain competitive and sustain stable performance,' Hup Seng said. In the second quarter ended June 30, Hup Seng's net profit fell 5.7% to RM8.5mil, or earnings per share of 1.06 sen compared with RM9.03mil, or 1.13 sen in the year-ago quarter. The lower profit was primarily due to an increase in certain raw material costs, which offset the positive impact of higher sales. Revenue, however, rose 5.7% to RM84.8mil against RM80.2mil achieved a year ago. Hup Seng said its domestic sales increased by 9%, or RM5.5mil, compared to the previous corresponding period, driven mainly by growth in East Malaysia as well as wholesale, supermarket, and hypermarket channels. However, this gain was partially offset by a 5% decline in export sales, amounting to RM900,000, primarily from Indonesia and Myanmar. In the first six months, it posted a net profit of RM19.1mil, down 16.9% from RM23mil while revenue rose to RM176.6mil against RM173.8mil a year prior. The board of directors has recommended a first interim single-tier dividend of 2 sen per ordinary share for the financial quarter ending Dec 31, 2025. The entitlement date will be announced later.

Trump suggests China reduce US trade deficit by buying soybeans

MOSCOW (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti): US President Donald Trump has suggested that China should reduce the trade deficit the US has in bilateral exchanges by purchasing American soybeans. "China is worried about its shortage of soyabeans. Our great farmers produce the most robust soyabeans. I hope China will quickly quadruple its soyabean orders. "This is also a way of substantially reducing China's Trade Deficit with the USA. Rapid service will be provided. Thank you, President XI," Trump wrote on Truth Social, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti. China and the US are currently in a state that media dubbed a trade war, which erupted after Trump imposed a 10 per cent tariff on all Chinese imports in February. In March, it was raised to 20 per cent. Then, after several rounds of retaliatory measures, US tariffs on Chinese goods reached 145 per cent, and the rate for American suppliers to China hit 125 per cent. However, by mid-May, China and the US agreed to mutually reduce tariffs to 10 per cent, effective May 14, for 90 days. As a result, China began imposing a 10 per cent tariff on imports of American goods, while the US levies 30 per cent on Chinese goods because a 20 per cent "fentanyl" tariff remains in effect. In late spring and early summer, both countries accused each other of violating preliminary agreements. In June, US imports of Chinese goods fell by 7.5 per cent to US$18.95 billion from US$20.49 billion in May. The last time imports were lower was in February 2009, when they amounted to US$18.85 billion. Meanwhile, US exports to China in June grew significantly - by 44 per cent, to US$9.44 billion from US$6.55 billion the previous month. -- Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti

More than 40 luxury car owners in Kelantan with expired road tax

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Road Transport Department (RTD) has identified more than 40 owners of luxury cars who have failed to renew their road tax. State RTD director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said these individuals were among the more than 400 luxury vehicles, including those owned by local businesswomen, currently registered with the department. He added that the total value of these vehicles was estimated to be in the millions of ringgit. However, he said, most of the luxury cars, which include Lamborghinis and Ferraris worth millions each, were used outside the state, particularly in the Klang Valley. "In just 10 days, we managed to detain the owners of 16 luxury vehicles for failing to renew their road tax. "Likely, there are still many more owners who remain reluctant to renew them," he said. Misuari said that many of the vehicles were owned by entrepreneurs and businesspeople, including women entrepreneurs, who typically pay between RM3,000 and RM15,000 annually for road tax. "This amount is not considered high for them, as they can afford it, but many tend to be complacent. "Some assume enforcement officers will not check their luxury vehicles. This lack of concern often results in their vehicles being seized by RTD," he said. He warned that those driving without a valid road tax could be charged under Section 23(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a fine of up to RM2,000. For those without insurance, they can be charged under Section 90(1). The offence carries a fine of up to RM1,000, a jail term of up to three months, or both. Misuari said the department will continue with Op Khas Luxury to ensure only legal, safe, and registered vehicles are allowed on the roads.
